Hotels near Gojo Station, Kyoto

This hotel far exceeded my expectations. That day, I traveled all the way from Wakkanai after visiting Cape Soya, then flew from Chitose Airport to Osaka, and finally arrived in Kyoto. I was incredibly exhausted, both mentally and physically. Beyond the usual tea bags and shower gel found in Japanese hotels, this place offered premium amenities like bath salts. But the best part was that this hotel has a 'power on' system for the room key! This meant I could leave the room with my card, and the electricity wouldn't shut off! You could also tell the local environment was pretty good; the birds on the street weren't afraid of people at all. They'd walk right next to the sidewalk, and wouldn't fly away even when people passed by.

The location is excellent, about a 15-20 minute walk to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. The hotel is situated right by the Kamo River, perfect for a stroll, and in early December, Kyoto is in its prime for autumn leaves 🍁, so you'll encounter stunning maple trees during your walk. Shopping is also very convenient, with three major convenience stores directly across the street, plus a drugstore that offers tax-free shopping for purchases over 5000 yen. The room includes a kettle, which is great for those who prefer hot water. Breakfast is decent, typical for a Japanese hotel. However, the hotel is on a main road, and it can get a bit noisy, especially when motorcycles pass by.

This is a hotel situated a bit off the Kyoto Gion which is nice, also close to Kyoto-kawaramachi Station, leading you to Arashiyama region. FamilyMart is just one building away. The room was nice equipped with futons, no classic beds, and we enjoyed this much. A nice place to stay near the touristic heart of Kyoto.

Even though I booked for two people, at check-in (online check-in), it showed three people. I couldn't proceed without entering information for all three, which prevented me from checking in. I tried to contact them, but since it was after 10 PM, the call didn't go through. When I called again, someone from Tsukimi Hotel answered (I heard it's in front of this hotel and part of the same group). They were incredibly kind, explaining how I might be able to reach the right person by phone and even inviting me to come to Tsukimi Hotel if I couldn't get through. So I went over there, and they called this hotel's customer service for me. However, the customer service representative implied it was my fault because I had supposedly booked for three people. My friend also separately booked a room for one person at this hotel but was charged for two (perhaps they count by the number of beds in the room?), and they believe they paid extra accommodation tax as a result. I am extremely grateful to the staff at Tsukimi Hotel for helping me so late at night and for mediating so kindly, even though they probably didn't fully understand my situation. However, whether it's a system issue or not, I'm genuinely disappointed that I couldn't check in without entering information for three people when I had booked for two, and that I was told it was my fault for supposedly booking for three. I hope the hotel reviews its system and makes improvements so that others don't experience the same issues as I did.

The hotel's location is excellent, just a hundred meters from five subway exits. It's super convenient to get to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Sannenzaka/Ninenzaka, and Kamo River is right outside the door for a stroll. The room was quite spacious, with a corner sofa and a separate toilet and shower. When I stayed, it seemed like the hotel was fully booked with many guests, but the service remained very organized. Especially at breakfast, there was hardly any waiting, and if I needed anything, the front desk was quick to assist.

This hotel is perfectly situated near the Kamo River and very close to Shijo Street, the main thoroughfare. There are tons of dining options nearby, and Takashimaya, Daimaru, and Isetan are all within easy reach. I personally love the hotel's overall ambiance – it’s chic and minimalist with a touch of vintage charm. On the ground floor, there's a Blue Bottle Coffee, and directly opposite, a Le Labo where there's always a queue. The neighboring BAL mall is also great for browsing. The only minor downside for me was the room size; it felt a bit cramped. While it's certainly more spacious than most Japanese hotel rooms, with two 28-inch suitcases, it felt a little tight when fully unpacked. The hotel's third floor features a lounge where you can grab water, beverages, sparkling water, and coffee 24/7, all free of charge. From 2 PM to 10 PM, they also offer snacks, red wine, white wine, and ice. We didn't book breakfast, but I heard it's excellent. Of course, enjoying breakfast on the 8th floor with views of the Kamo River and city would certainly enhance the dining experience. If my budget allowed, I would definitely opt for a larger room type. Otherwise, I was very satisfied with everything.

Unfortunately, it wasn't great value for money. After looking at many hotels, I finally booked this one mainly because of its Japanese style. 1/ Service: The front desk service was very 'Japanese English.' They didn't speak Chinese, and their English was just okay. Check-in was fine, but they weren't very helpful with other inquiries. Also, Japanese hotels are strict about check-in and check-out times, so remember to be punctual. 2/ Room: Not good. The layout was poor. Personally, I'd rate the room type I booked as three-star at best. It's definitely not worth 1000 yen. 3/ Location: It's alright, but the izakayas nearby weren't fun or good. I tried a few and wouldn't recommend them. 4/ Bonus points: The hotel offers free luggage storage and free bicycle rental, which you can even use after check-out. There's also a hot spring bath (onsen) – I didn't go, but I heard it's tattoo-friendly, which is a plus.

I’m from Thailand and have been familiar with ASAI for some time. When I discovered a location in Kyoto, the city that I wanted to revisit after 10 years, I didn’t hesitate to book my stay. I’m glad I made that choice. The service was exceptional, and some of the staff were even fluent in Thai. The amenities in my room were excellent and very useful. The room was spacious enough for a solo traveller, especially since I had a double room. Breakfast was served as a set meal, where you could choose one option from the menu, but that was perfectly fine. The location is strategic, as it is near bus stops and train stations, allowing you to select your preferred mode of transportation. However, keep in mind that some guests may have a longer walk from the station, depending on where you disembark. It's a shame I only spent 2 nights here because I was also staying with my friend at her place. Next time, I will definitely come back to stay here longer! 🙂

Overall, a good stay. The room was clean, the bedding was comfortable, and the shower had good water pressure. The front desk staff were friendly and check-in was efficient. The location is convenient, with several restaurants nearby. It offers great value for money and I recommend it for business trips or short stays.

Facilities: Well-equipped, spacious room with a cozy wooden design. Hygiene: Very clean, and the bathroom is large. Environment: Very close to the subway station, and the surrounding area is quiet. Service: Very welcoming, and they even gave us a small gift.
