Daiwa Roynet Hotel KYOTO-SHIJYOKARASUMA (Reopening on March 14, 2026)

The hotel itself was fine, and it's pretty close to the subway station. The room wasn't huge, but there was enough space to open a 24-inch suitcase, so it was perfect for one person. It was also very clean, and the bathroom was quite spacious. They even offered a complimentary cup of coffee every day, which tasted decent. My only real complaint is that while it looked close to Kawaramachi on the map, making it seem convenient for shopping, after a few days of shopping there and lugging my purchases back to the hotel, I realized it was actually quite a trek and pretty tiring. However, if you're not planning on constant shopping, the location is great. Transportation is super convenient, with the subway and buses connecting you to everywhere.

The hotel is closest to Exit 5 of the subway, but if you have large luggage, please don't use this exit as it's all stairs with several turns. Exit 4 has an elevator and isn't far from the hotel either. The hotel's facade is quite discreet, with subtle colors, so you'll need to look up a bit to spot it when walking on the same side of the street. The location is excellent; it's right next to a shopping street, with Daimaru and Takashimaya department stores nearby, and plenty of dining options, making it super convenient for shopping. The room size is standard Japanese specifications. All the hotel staff were lovely, especially a Miss Matsushita – I even took a picture of her name tag! She patiently helped me translate and communicate throughout the process of shipping my luggage to Osaka. She was enthusiastic, gentle, and always smiling, with a wonderful attitude. The hotel breakfast variety is a bit limited, not as many choices as the previous hotel I stayed at. However, the front desk offers various skincare samples and free coffee and matcha drinks. The great location outweighs this minor drawback. Highly recommended!

First time in Kyoto. It's a bit of a walk from the bustling Shijo Kawaramachi commercial street, about 10 minutes on foot. However, it's quite close to the subway entrance, and Japan's underground passages are all connected, which is incredibly convenient for summer or rainy days – really impressed by their advanced design. Back to the hotel, I've stayed at this chain many times; it's very convenient. There's self-service laundry, and while it's not free like Atour, paying 400 JPY to avoid handwashing is totally worth it. It's just been renovated, so both the public facilities and rooms are very new. I always recommend booking newly opened hotels for a much better experience. The room isn't huge but perfectly adequate. The hotel breakfast is quite generous for a budget hotel, leaning Western, and surprisingly, they even have freshly cooked noodles. The desserts are excellent too; I'd rate the milk pudding and fruit jelly as top-notch. Just no fresh fruit, haha. Is paying 6000+ JPY for a night with breakfast for 2 adults and 1 child asking for too much? Haha.

Excellent location. The room is really spacious, easily fitting two 29-inch suitcases. It's been recently renovated; the previously dirty wallpaper and old armchair have been replaced, making it much cleaner and fresher. The service is also good. The only issue is that the renovation smell hasn't completely dissipated yet; I could still detect some strange odors. Thankfully, the window can be opened a crack, which was a lifesaver – with it open, I couldn't smell anything.

The location is absolutely perfect! It's super close to Shijo, so after shopping, you can leisurely walk back to the hotel. Being right across from the police station gives you a great sense of security. There are several convenience stores nearby, making it easy to grab anything you need. Plus, a Saizeriya is just a short walk away, which is perfect for a late-night bite. The tram station is also very close, just a few minutes' walk, making it incredibly convenient to get to Osaka.

The hotel I booked is conveniently located, just a 2-minute walk from the subway and a 2-minute walk from bus route 58. I read reviews saying it was newly renovated, and my actual experience was very satisfying. Before heading out, the front desk provides umbrellas. Upon check-in, there were many complimentary samples, including makeup remover oil, cotton pads, face oil, body lotion, toothbrushes, combs, and even a bath scrub mitt – a very comprehensive selection! There's also a drink machine with matcha and coffee. The room has disposable slippers and bottled water, plus a refrigerator, which is handy for storing yogurt or milk. I stayed for 3 nights, and the soundproofing was good. The bathroom had no unpleasant odors and even had a bathtub with bath salts provided, perfect for a relaxing soak to relieve fatigue.

Very comfortable and exceptionally clean, with excellent service. Had a fantastic experience. Highly recommend to friends or family visiting Kyoto. It's super convenient, right by the subway exit, only a 2-minute walk to the hotel.

This is my second time staying at this hotel in Kyoto. It's newly renovated, and the facilities are much better than before. It's right at the Shijo subway station entrance, which makes transportation incredibly convenient. I'll definitely stay here again.
