THE HOTEL HIGASHIYAMA KYOTO TOKYU, A Pan Pacific Hotel

"The hotel is near a touristy historic area. The hotel's location is not close to the train station, but they have an hourly hotel bus to the train station which takes about 20 minutes, depending on traffic. The hotel room is not very big but it's adequate. They don't have a proper door to the bathroom, the sink and counter are open to the main room but there is a thin sliding door. so the entrance corridor is also the bathroom sink and counter. I like that the toilet is in its own mini room, as is the shower. the toilet's light turns on automatically when you enter that mini room. There are some nice designs touches in the hotel, which added to our positive experience. Service is very good and helpful 👍. The hotel room has a lot of lights, but still it felt a bit dark in the room."

Daiwa Roynet Hotel KYOTO-SHIJYOKARASUMA (Reopening on March 14, 2026)

"First impression of the hotel wasn’t that positive. the hotel was having some renovation done in the lobby during my stay. As you stepped in the lobby door, a gush of smoking smells. The smoking room door is an automated door, and it was basically open as people was standing near the sensor. Room was great, I had some view of the mountains, cleanliness was good. Conveniently steps away from Lawson. Walking distance to famous shopping streets Check in experience wasn’t very pleasant, I booked through trip.com stating 1 adults and 2 kids with their age. But was charged extra during check in for my 10 year old. Wasn’t the staff fault, the hotel should state clearly on the booking system."

Park Hyatt Kyoto ★★★★★
"The view and location are impeccable, and the room facilities and design are also high-end. However, firstly, even the Higashiyama Suite lacks a separate dressing area for women, and the indoor lighting is dim, making it difficult to apply makeup on cloudy days. Secondly, the breakfast buffet has a limited selection and no hot meat dishes. If you want to have a Japanese breakfast, you need to pay extra and make a reservation in advance. This design is extremely unreasonable. If guests have never tried Japanese breakfast before, they don't know if it will suit their taste, so why should they be required to make a reservation in advance? Even if it is a restaurant from Kyoto University, it is ultimately the restaurant that serves the guests, not the other way around. The variables should be borne by the service provider. In addition, the reception staff at the hotel entrance are exceptionally enthusiastic when serving white guests. I witnessed three doormen rushing to serve a white couple at the same time, ignoring us who were right behind them."

Dusit Thani Kyoto ★★★★★
"Everything was good except the service in hotel restaurants, which was exceptionally bad: 1) breakfast: waited for food for 40 mins, reminded the server 2 times - still nothing; 2) bar: a too long wait for a cocktail. the server said that as apology said cocktail won’t be in included in the bill… but it was there; 3) afternoon tea: told the staff that I dislike dairy products, but have no allergy. So, for example I can eat most sweets, but not the ones with a strong taste of mascarpone cream. In the end they gave me just a plate of fruit and when I remninded them of the above they… did nothing ) I stayed at this hotel and had afternoon tea there last year too - everything was fine then. All of the above are 3 different restaurants inside the hotel, so I wouldn’t recommend going to any restaurant there. In all other aspects except services related to food the hotel is good."

"The hotel provided complimentary bottled water, which was great. The staff at the luggage storage were also very helpful, and I appreciate that I was assigned a room on a high floor. However, there was a dripping sound coming from the air conditioning area in the room, which affected my rest."

"A beautiful hotel with spacious, comfortable rooms and a relaxing atmosphere. The property is surrounded by greenery and feels like a peaceful retreat within Kyoto. While the location is slightly away from the busy tourist areas, it was never an issue as taxi and uber were convenient. What truly stood out was the exceptional hospitality of the staff—everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming throughout our stay. A wonderful hotel that we'd happily return to."
