Kitashirakawa Natural Radium Onsen

Outstanding

Highly recommended! The hotel room is very large, and the price includes breakfast and dinner. You can see the pictures. The taste is very delicious and the portion is super large. You can eat as much as you want! The taste and product are no less than Michelin restaurants. The hotel is very clean and has built-in and external hot springs. It is quiet and comfortable. The boss's family will drive us to the mountain. There are very few rooms in the hotel. It is operated by the boss's family. The boss is very kind to help us move our luggage to the second floor, and all the dishes are made by him. After breakfast the next morning, he packed a large bread with his own jam and brought it to us on the road. It is really touching to feel such food, service, accommodation, and human warmth in Japan! It is recommended that you spend 1-2 nights in Kyoto to experience it. Be careful to eat less when you go, because you will really eat too much!

Japanese Ryokan Seryo

Our stay at Seryo Ryokan in Ohara was an 11/10 experience and the highlight of our Japan trip. From arrival to departure, the service was exceptional. The staff were warm, attentive, and even helped arrange luggage delivery to our next hotel in Fukuoka, which made our trip much easier. The onsen was relaxing and well-maintained. While smaller than those in Hokkaido, it still offered a peaceful and authentic experience. The kaiseki cuisine was top notch. Every dish was beautifully presented, and the menu exceeded our expectations. Even the breakfast was really good. Everything about this ryokan was thoughtful and well-prepared. The area is also nearby so many temples and is surrounded by mountains. If you love nature this is a perfect ryokan for you. Luckily we found seryo for our trip. This ryokan isPerfect for families looking for a quiet and memorable stay. Highly recommended!

This time, I stayed at the annex, and both check-in and check-out were incredibly fast and smooth. The service standards were exceptionally high, and the location was very convenient. The only downside to the entire hotel was that the showerhead couldn't be fixed securely, which made showering a bit inconvenient. Otherwise, all other facilities and drink provisions were excellent, and the breakfast was exquisite. I will definitely recommend it to my friends.

My Kyoto trip was particularly satisfying with this Kyoto townhouse. It had a garden, a private hot spring bath, and was brimming with Japanese charm. The breakfasts were especially delightful, with a wide variety and different dishes each day. After breakfast, there was also a traditional Kyoto matcha and carefully selected sweets; the owner even patiently explained the proper way to drink the matcha. It's a bit far from the subway, but there are several bus stops nearby, making it quite convenient. Strolling along Kyoto's charming streets and discovering hidden gems of little shops was also a delightful experience.

This is a budget hotel aiming for something more—and they’ve genuinely succeeded. The room was probably the smallest we’ve ever stayed in (think sleeping on a boat or in an RV), but it was spotless and well designed. Every afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 the hotel offers a complimentary sake bar in the lobby.  They also offer an impressive selection of amenities: toothbrushes, razors, face masks, serums, bath salts, and more. Breakfast is excellent, with plenty of variety. The onsen is O.K. and alternates between men’s and women’s use. We used the laundry and it is conveniently located and inexpensive.  It rained while we were there and they offered us umbrellas. The staff are friendly and helpful, without exception. The location is fantastic—just steps from Teramachi and Nishiki Markets, an easy walk to multiple train stations, and close to both the Gion and Pontocho districts. There are countless restaurants in every direction. On one of the afternoons during our four‑night stay, the hotel even hosted a free maiko (apprentice geisha) performance in the lobby, which was beautifully done.

Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto

When we chose this hotel, we saw pictures and videos that made us think it was a resort estate, but it's not. There's very little to see inside the hotel; I could walk through the entire property in 5 minutes. Secondly, the hotel advertises natural hot springs, but the public ones reek of disinfectant as soon as you walk in, which is very unpleasant. The room itself was okay and had character, and the bathtub was very large with a pleasant woody scent when bathing. Finally, the breakfast – honestly, the taste was just mediocre. I wouldn't choose this hotel again at the same price point.

The hotel has a very authentic Japanese style, giving it a cozy, home-like feel. The hot spring baths are also great and free to use. Breakfast was very rich, and the rice, in particular, was delicious. The only downside is that breakfast starts quite early, and the room facilities are a bit basic, but overall, the value for money is still acceptable.

The surroundings and the village are very pleasant. The hotel itself offers an interesting experience, staying in a rather dilapidated building with minimal amenities. You can really get a sense of what it might have been like to travel in Japan in the second half of the 20th century. Everything is very old and outdated, but that just adds to the charm. The onsen is nice, and I especially enjoyed the round outdoor bath. However, I really didn't enjoy the breakfast or dinner. The staff were acceptable, but I wasn't a fan of the main administrator or whoever that person was – very overly familiar, insincere, and affected. There's no value for money here. I definitely wouldn't go back a second time. But overall, I don't regret the experience.

The hotel boasts an excellent location, just about a ten-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station and a mere five minutes from Aeon Mall, making dining and shopping incredibly convenient. There's a bus stop right outside the hotel, and subway and Kintetsu stations are also nearby. The hotel breakfast is also great, offering a good variety of both Japanese and Western options, and the service is very attentive. The public bath, however, is quite small. I was hoping to soak there every evening to relax, but on my second night, I encountered someone bizarrely scrubbing their feet and legs in the pool! I was so disgusted I immediately fled and never went back. Luckily, there's a bathtub in the room, so I ended up using that instead. Overall, the hotel offers great value for money, and I'm very satisfied! 🈵

The hotel is very pretty, Andre Fu never fails to impress! Breakfast was nice with good variety to choose from, would be great if we can have a drink menu as well. The room was a bit small for 3 ladies and the bathroom is quite transparent. Would be great if switchable smart glass is used instead for the bathroom window for privacy. Despite the minor inconvenience, the bathtub is amazing and spacious. It’s perfect for couple. The thermal spring is clean and is usually not busy. The hotel provides swim suit for guests as it is a mixed pool. The service was smooth and the environment is very relaxing. The only thing we didn’t like about the spring was that there is no natural lights as it is located in the basement. Don’t miss out on the morning breathing session! Special shoutout to the concierge team as they very efficiently helped us with restaurant and workshops recommendation and bookings prior to our arrival. Taxis were arranged promptly every time. We had a really good time in Kyoto and we can’t wait to come back again!
