"This is a hotel where you can experience a retro feel. Perhaps because of this, in the East and West wings you have to go out through an outside walkway to get to the main building or the baths, which can be difficult on rainy days. However, there are convenience stores and the station nearby, so I think it's a nice hotel. Retro hotels like this are becoming increasingly rare these days, so it's good that this hotel has such a long history."

"This is a popular all-inclusive resort! We stayed on a Saturday, but the various play areas and pool facilities were spacious and relaxed, so it didn't feel crowded at all. The dining area was in one place, so there was a problem with the flow of food, so we had to wait in line, but we arrived a little early so we managed. The hot springs were also very nice. There was a mistake in entering the child's information, so Trip.com contacted us in advance, which was very helpful. Thank you very much."

"From a price-quality point of view, this hotel is quite worthwhile for the unpretentious traveler. The location is in a picturesque place, but away from the main route of Nikko attractions. The hotel is quite old, but this was not too annoying. But dust is wiped only in visible places (no one bothers with anything near the windows or the hatch in the toilet). There was also very little water pressure in the room, although everything is fine in the onsen. The onsen was fine, but on one of the three days the smell of bleach was quite strong. The dinner was good, considering the cost and free alcohol, but the breakfast was quite unusual for a European."

"Overall, we had a pleasant stay. The onsen was especially nice and very relaxing. Our whole family stayed over the New Year holiday, and we enjoyed the dinner buffet with its wide variety of options. Breakfast was decent as well. The only downside was that the hotel corridors were quite cold during the winter season, and we also experienced a minor issue with the room’s air conditioning, which made the room cold for a while. Despite this, we still had a nice overall experience."

"The main advantages of this hotel are its traditional ryokan-style atmosphere, the on-site hot spring baths, and its convenient location. Several tourist attractions and bus stops are within walking distance, and the room rates are reasonable. However, the service was extremely disappointing. On the day of check-out, the hotel only allowed luggage storage until 12:00 PM. After check-out, guests were not permitted to use any of the hotel’s facilities, including the restroom. Instead, we were told to use the public restroom next door. Because of the poor customer service and lack of flexibility, I would not recommend staying here."

"At this price point, I felt my staycation experience is boring and disappointing. Upon arrival at the front waiting area, we waited almost 20 min just to wait the cable car to reach. No one serve welcome drinks or even send luggage’s to our room. We do it all on our own. It says it’s 4 star rated hotel, the service is questionable. The dinner that is served takes forever to come, the taste of the eel soup is questionable too. As for Japan standard, I don’t feel it’s worth the money for this staycation. The hotel staff speaks minimal English and hard to communicate. I would say the hotel is ok if could come at low season with low rates, otherwise don’t speak big money just bored and sleep in the room. They don’t have any facilities besides onsen for guests. So ya… it’s disappointing"

"It's a quiet and peaceful place with a convenience store nearby, within walking distance of Toshogu Shrine, and the refrigerator has an unlimited supply of Häagen-Dazs ice cream. However, they sometimes throw guests' plush toys on the floor... This is something that needs improvement."

"Love the design that gives double bunking guests privacies, but that give rise to two issues: (1) door slamming noise is an issue when there are any guests who head in and out of their compartment during the night, (2) there isn't much space to unpack your luggage. Onsen is tiny but water is hot enough."

"I want to thank hosts of Akari no yado personally. The hosts were nice and worked really hard to feel ourselves at home. The place was clean and the common room was big and comfortable. Bathroom was old fashioned but if you want modern bathrooms you were able to use the bath house for showers and toilets in the common area. Breakfast is made of pastries and all I had was pretty delicious. You can also have marmalade and margarine with breakfast pastries and there are drinks (tea/coffee/milk/juice) to choose from. We checked out early and hosts prepared our breakfast to go even if it wasn’t breakfast time yet. They even drove us to the station when we asked if they would be able to call us a taxi! Bath house was spacious with two different baths. System is easy and we were able to use it whenever we wanted (between 16.00-23.00 of course). They are giving free rental yukatas and they were so comfy. They also have guides everywhere to help you (our room even had a guide on how to prepare a futon bed!) the place felt like we were part of a  family and that was the most amazing part for me. I even got teary eyed when it was time to go. Thank you Akari no yado! Hope to see you soon again!"
