EleniqueThis was my first trip to Japan — I loved the country and its people — but I was disappointed with this hotel and will not return. I hesitated before writing, but decided to share my experience because this property was first on my list and the reception staff’s behavior was very disappointing. I have worked in hospitality and am certain the situation could have been handled promptly and professionally.
We traveled together (two colleagues) and stayed in room 611 from June 29 to July 3. The room is indeed small, which we knew in advance: two beds with a narrow passage between them — that’s essentially the whole room. The room had all essentials: clean bedding, good towels, a kettle, an air purifier, etc. My suitcase only fit on the bed; my colleague kept her backpack on the pouf. The hotel’s location is excellent — we reached it from the airport by metro without problems. Ueno Park and the zoo are within easy walking distance. We also really liked the breakfast — friendly staff and tasty food.
Unfortunately, on July 2 my colleague discovered that dollars were missing from her backpack. We are certain the money was there on June 30, since she took part of it with her on a walk that day. We thoroughly rechecked the room (I found a surprising amount of dust under the bed, though the room appeared clean overall). My colleague, who speaks excellent English, reported the theft to reception at about 18:00. She was told the hotel has no cameras and that housekeeping had already left. We provided the exact amount missing and our dates of stay. We did not make a scene or demand compensation, but we did expect a professional response: to check who cleaned the room on the relevant dates and to contact the housekeeping team.
I ask hotel management to investigate: room 611, housekeeping dates 30.06, 01.07, and 02.07, and the exact amount missing (in US dollars) are all known. Taking these simple steps would help restore the hotel’s reputation and demonstrate true guest care.
We stayed in two other hotels during our trip and experienced nothing like this elsewhere. This incident has not changed our positive impression of Japan and its people, but it has changed our view of this particular hotel — we will not return.
Advice to future guests: be vigilant with cash and valuables, and be aware that the reception at this hotel may not provide adequate assistance.

Guest UserA very stylish hotel, with a black and gray color scheme throughout. Toiletries and other disposables are conveniently located by the elevators on the first floor for guests to pick up as needed. The room had a large mirror, which was great for getting ready for a live event nearby. However, there was no soft main light in the room, only spotlights, which made it a bit difficult to relax. The small shops downstairs also offered decent food and drinks. Oh, and by the way, the bottled water at this hotel was the best I've had in Japan!

JiunnnnnWe love the stay! It was just a min to the nearest exit of ikebukuro station. We love how they have type C port for each bed side- very considerate, don’t even need to bring you international plug. They have full sets of facial cleansing, lotion, moisturiser provided specially for my boyfriend who doesn’t do any of these routines! They also have water filling station with free bottles provided. Not to forget, free coffees and hot chocolates !The stay was truly amazing!

My overall experience with this stay was quite complex, feeling more like a test of service management capabilities.
On the first day, the room cleaning quality was noticeably below expectations. The wash area, countertop details, and some amenities weren't clean enough, and the bedding wasn't tidied properly. From a housekeeping management perspective, this felt more like a failure in process execution rather than an isolated incident, and it definitely affected my first impression.
However, after I raised the issue, the hotel's recovery actions were prompt. In the following days, the room cleaning was significantly more standardized, with noticeable improvements in detail. This indicates that the hotel is capable of good service, but the initial day's execution standards simply weren't met.
In contrast, Trip.com's service experience during this incident left a deeper impression. The customer service proactively followed up, communicated efficiently, and handled the situation professionally. They were able to push for problem resolution from a customer experience perspective, demonstrating a mature platform service system. This level of after-sales responsiveness is quite high among current online travel platforms.
Overall Rating:
The hotel's hardware and positioning are fine, but there's room for improvement in service consistency, especially regarding the first-day delivery standards of housekeeping management. Trip.com's coordination and service performance in this incident, on the other hand, highlighted the professional value of their platform.

Guest UserThough small, this hotel has everything you need. Its Ginza location is incredibly convenient, perfect for shopping or quickly getting to Narita Airport via the expressway.
What truly impressed me is how many features are packed into such a compact space. They have a coin-operated laundry and a large public bath. The room, which I'd estimate at about 20 square meters, even managed to fit bunk beds (1.2m/1.5m), making it very family-friendly.
A minor point is that since the hotel is directly above the subway, you occasionally feel vibrations as trains pass. This led to a funny moment when an actual earthquake hit at night, and I initially thought it was just another train going by!

Guest UserI always have a soft spot for hotels with hot springs, especially when they have an outdoor section. It's perfect for when you want a quick dip without feeling cooped up if you stay longer. The room size was pretty standard, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a separate hallway leading into the room, which is a nice touch compared to other business hotels.
To be honest, the location is just okay. It's a bit of a walk from the station (about 7-8 minutes, mainly because you have to cross the street right outside the subway entrance), so it's not exactly right by the station. It is, however, right in front of an elevated road, but the windows do a decent job with soundproofing.
The biggest drawback with this type of hotel is that there's only one elevator, which means you can end up waiting for quite a while.

Joyful TravellerWhile this hotel has a convenient location, the experience was ruined by a lack of basic hospitality and very cramped quarters. The room was so small it was difficult to even open two large suitcases. More disappointing, however, was the staff’s attitude. Everything is followed strictly 'by the book' with zero flexibility. I was told a late check-out would be charged by the hour, and even a simple request for a complimentary bottle of water was flatly denied. The staff were condescending and never offered a smile, making for a very unwelcoming environment. A small gesture like a bottle of water costs almost nothing but earns customer loyalty; unfortunately, this hotel chooses rigid rules over guest satisfaction. I would not recommend staying here.

Guest UserThe service was excellent! The level of civility in developed countries is truly something to admire and learn from. A huge thank you to the front desk lady for her help. I would definitely come back again if I have the chance. The ladies at the front desk are super beautiful, and the gentlemen are incredibly handsome. I sincerely recommend this place for Chinese tourists to stay and visit.

Posted on Nov 19, 2025|Capsule Room for Men Only, Non Smoking, with Public Bath
Guest UserI liked this place. A pretty standard classic capsule hotel: sizeable capsule with a console, daily turnover service, large shower and onsen room with an attached steam room. Service was good: they have an army of twinks working there after hours, it was like being checked in by BTS. All issues I had with my capsule (broken lightbulb) were addressed quickly and cheerfully. Sometimes it kinda seemed like they were laughing at a few of the foreign guests, but you know what, fair. This place is kinda rules heavy, with lots of notices posted around the property. There is no eating or drinking in the capsules, and instead you have to go to this common area that feels a bit like a hospice for abandoned uncles. Vending machines, manga library, smoking cubicles, that sorta thing. Clean and tidy though, equal numbers of dudes using it for remote working and day drinking (I have a feeling that some ppl live in this place). They have the usual elaborate system of lockers and keys, but they will store your luggage for you while you are out. No need to check out in the day. Overall a chill experience. While I was staying there though some dude did have a mini breakdown about what he saw as it's shortcomings, so I just wanted to comment on that. According to him the place was disgusting. He was especially perturbed by the housekeeping service and the showers. His claim was the the toilets were dirty and that it was unacceptable to fold bedsheets on the floor. Mind you, he was having this rant at 10:30 - checkout is at 10:00, meaning that a whole stampede of airport-bound weebs had just taken spicy ramen fuelled power dumps so they could get out of there on time. Most of the day the facilities were pretty spotless in my opinion. In regards to folding the bedsheets on the floor, I dunno what in the Disney princess he was expecting, but there really isn't anywhere else to do it. I think it's unreasonable to expect little doves to come fly your linens into your capsule tbh. The capsules are literally on... the floor! What do you want? His overall complaint that the space was generally messy was a lot more valid. At this point I had a suspicion that they kind of segregated foreigners from Japanese customers. It's true, that the foreign floor was a bit of a tip - luggage thrown around, empty bottles everywhere, garbage. I went up to the Japanese floors to snoop around a bit. Spotless. (Pictures of both included for comparison) In this case I think the call is coming from inside the capsule, not really fair to hold the staff accountable to your own messy manners. His final gripe was about the showers - specifically the lack of private cubicles. Private cubicles were not advertised anywhere and Japanese onsens are pretty standardly communal spaces, so again I dunno what he wanted. Maybe a shower, with a curtain? Maybe a shower with a door? Maybe a shower with a psychic forcefield that would make his ex girlfriends forget his underwhelming junk and prevent his father from behind disappointed in him? I'm not sure. But I guess the dozen shower stations with soap, shampoo, and face wash weren't cutting it. In fact a lot of the Western guests seemed pretty pranged out by the shower situation, waiting until like two am to wash up and then scurrying around the baths with a hand towel infront of their package like a little purse. If you regret going bald, that's on you. Kinda silly, but if you are bashful maybe this also isn't the hotel for you. Unreasonable though to blame the establishment for you own shame. Anyway, that's all to say the worst part of my stay was for sure the ranting and raving from an unshowered backpacker while I was trying to have a lie in. Otherwise a pretty decent stay.

Carey LoyCenturion Hotel Ueno was a complete disappointment, falling short of basic hospitality standards. The deception started right at check-in: the room was explicitly advertised and booked as a ”Casual Double Bed,” but what we actually received was a cramped single bed. This blatant misrepresentation immediately compromised the comfort of our stay.
The lack of care extended into the bathroom, which was a major letdown. The sink and shower area were marred by very bad, visible marks that made the entire space feel neglected and unhygienic. For a hotel that positions itself in a convenient location like Ueno, the absolute disregard for accurate room descriptions and rigorous housekeeping is unacceptable.
