On the plane
Most airlines flying into Australia distribute the arrival card during the flight. The cabin crew will walk through the cabin handing out forms about an hour before landing.
This is the most convenient time to complete it since you’ll have your passport and flight details with you. Doing it on the plane also saves time once you land, as you can proceed straight to immigration.
At the airport
If you didn’t receive a card on the flight, don’t worry, you can pick one up at the immigration area of any Australian international airport. There are usually stands with spare arrival cards near the immigration counters.
However, this may take extra time, especially during peak arrivals, so filling it out in advance is always recommended.
Filling it out
- Always use a blue or black pen and write clearly in English using block letters (capital letters).
- Double-check your personal details (name, passport number, flight number) to ensure they match your passport and boarding pass.
- Provide a valid contact address in Australia, whether it’s your hotel, Airbnb, or the home of a relative or friend.
Declare all food, plant material, or animal products
Australia has some of the strictest biosecurity laws in the world. This means even packaged snacks, dried fruits, or wooden souvenirs must be declared. If you are unsure, tick “Yes” and declare, it’s safer than risking a fine.
Declare any medicines or controlled substances
Travelers carrying prescription medications should declare them. Some medicines that are common overseas may be classified as controlled in Australia. Always bring a doctor’s letter or prescription to avoid issues at immigration.
Declare cash over AUD 10,000
If you are bringing in AUD 10,000 or more (or equivalent in foreign currency), you must declare it on your arrival card. Declaring does not mean you’ll be taxed, it is simply a legal requirement to help Australia track large sums of money for security purposes.
Answer truthfully about criminal history or past visa issues
The arrival card will ask questions about any previous convictions, deportations, or visa refusals. Be honest when answering, as Australian immigration systems can cross-check with your records. Providing false information can lead to entry denial.
✅Extra Guide: You can present your arrival card with your passport at the immigration counter. If you’re not sure whether to declare something, always tick “Yes.” Officers will inspect it, and if it’s allowed, you can take it through with no issues.🔥Join Trip Talks SG for Exclusive Travel Deals
