5-Star Hotels in Kunming

Five stars to the DoubleTree by Hilton Kunming Airport! From the lobby environment and room cleanliness to the breakfast and airport shuttle service, everything met a high standard, making for a very comfortable stay. I especially want to commend Cai Cai. I was quite tired upon arrival, but Cai Cai was incredibly patient, efficiently handled my check-in, thoroughly explained all hotel services, and even offered thoughtful advice regarding my flight schedule. Any questions I had were answered promptly and properly, truly demonstrating exceptional service. The hotel maintains excellent quality control, and with such outstanding staff service, it has become my go-to choice for layovers in Kunming. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling through Changshui Airport.

This trip was a last-minute decision. I booked the hotel after 1 AM and was pleasantly surprised after landing and checking in. As someone who pays close attention to hotel details, especially since Kunming is always just a layover during my trips to Yunnan, I have to say Papman is truly amazing. First, the service: I received a fresh flower basket upon check-in, and the hotel butler was incredibly attentive, responding promptly to all my requests. They even sent a freshly made cake for our wedding anniversary, which was delicious and high-quality. Second, the room amenities: The vanity had a full box of soft facial tissues, makeup remover wipes, mouthwash, and laundry detergent. There was a Dyson hairdryer, and the shower had a dry/wet separation with push-button controls. Third, the hotel's decor: Every step revealed a beautiful view, and there were multiple tea rooms available for guests to use for free. The rooftop on the third floor offered spectacular photo opportunities. Walking around the hotel at night, I was delighted to see the shadow of a deer cast by the镂空灯 (镂空灯 - 'cut-out' or 'pierced' lamps). Fourth, the food: We received complimentary afternoon tea with tasty desserts, and the late-night snack selection was extensive, including rice noodles, fried potatoes, 'bao jiang' tofu, and grilled skewers. The salted peanuts, especially the Yunnan 'xiaohua' black peanuts, were excellent; I immediately asked if I could buy a can to take home. All in all, I'll definitely choose this place again on my next visit to Kunming!

The overall experience was incredibly comfortable. Mila, the staff member, was warm, polite, and responsive. The environment was clean and tidy, with great attention to detail, and all amenities were well-equipped. I had an excellent experience throughout, offering great value for money. I'll recommend it to my friends and will definitely come back again.

Choosing Jia Hua Plaza Hotel this time was absolutely the smartest decision. It truly lives up to its reputation as a long-standing five-star hotel. I initially expected the facilities to be a bit outdated, but to my surprise, everything, both hardware and software, exceeded my expectations. The location is excellent, with plenty of great dining options nearby, including many established old brands like Fuzhaolou. The lobby is grand and luxurious, and the central flower display is a delight to behold. The breakfast offers a rich variety of choices, covering all the best of Yunnan cuisine, which was a very thoughtful touch. Overall, the value for money is outstanding 👍. Next time I'm in Kunming, Jia Hua will definitely be my first choice.

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. I was quite hesitant before choosing it, especially after reading about the negative elevator incident, which made me really worry about safety. So, every time I took the elevator during my stay, I was on edge. The main reason I decided to stay was for the hot springs and swimming pool, as it's been raining a lot in Kunming recently, and I figured we'd just enjoy the hotel. Honestly, I wasn't particularly impressed with the service, and the facilities are quite old, very old. If it weren't for the constant rain and traveling with a child, I probably wouldn't have chosen this hotel. Especially after visiting Fuxian Lake, the comparison really highlighted its shortcomings.

Overall, the hotel was great – a true all-in-one spot for dining, entertainment, and relaxation. It’s perfect for spending a few days unwinding. The facilities like the pool and gym were excellent. Everything you need is right here! Plus, the three meals a day offered by the hotel were quite tasty. On a different note, I needed to arrange dinner for my family and called twice in advance to book a restaurant. The front desk said the F&B department would contact me, but they never did, even after I checked out… a bit frustrating. When I checked in, the front desk told me our standard room was on the first floor. I acknowledged it, and then they repeated it, “first floor, okay?” I didn't quite understand why they emphasized it twice. It wasn’t until I got to the room that I realized the cafe’s outdoor terrace offers a direct view into the room. (The front desk could have just said that directly instead of being so vague; how would I know, being a first-time guest?) Three areas for improvement: 1. The non-slip mat in the shower was very dirty. 2. The coordination among the F&B staff needs to be better. 3. The front desk should be more direct. Repeating that the standard room was on the first floor in such a roundabout way completely confused me as a first-time visitor about what they were trying to convey!

Overall, the room decor was exquisite, befitting an established star-rated hotel. On the day of my stay, the front desk staff presented me with a rose, which was a lovely touch. Most hotel staff greeted guests politely. However, there were several issues that I hope the hotel can address to further improve service quality. 1. **Consumables:** Room amenities were not replenished promptly or were missing entirely, such as bath towels, soap, snacks, and fruit. 2. **Service:** Room cleaning was not timely; one day, it wasn't done even by 4 PM, which was very inconvenient for guests. We had to call the butler service to get someone to clean it. 3. **Hygiene:** During my multi-day stay, the bed linens were not changed for four consecutive days. 4. **Soundproofing:** The sound of showering from the room upstairs at night significantly disturbed my sleep.

This hotel was the best one during our entire Yunnan trip. The room wasn't huge, but it was very well-designed and matched the price perfectly. One thing that was really important for me as a mom was that there was no carpet in the room. The staff were incredibly enthusiastic and responsible; you could tell they operate with high standards. The lifeguard was constantly patrolling around the pool, and the front desk staff were also very attentive. The gym's front desk person was responsible and proactive. After my 8-year-old son went for a swim, he went to the men's changing room by himself to shower. When I went to the front desk to ask, I realized the exit for the men's changing room wasn't in the direction we entered the pool area. I was a bit worried, and a staff member immediately went to find my son for me. When they saw me fumbling to help my son change, they quickly took his swimsuit to spin-dry it and pack it up for us. When we were leaving, the concierge, who was quite far away, actually jogged over to help us with our luggage.

It's rare to find a hotel that truly feels like a home away from home, but Bolian Hot Spring Resort certainly does! First, let's talk about the service. We stayed during the off-season, so there weren't many staff around, but you could still feel the warmth and professionalism from everyone, from our butler Dashi to the restaurant, hot springs, and front desk staff. The front desk staff even multi-tasked, making us tea and driving us to our room. Their professional training was evident throughout our stay. Even though the hotel has been open for twenty years, it doesn't feel old or dated at all. Every corner of the hotel is picturesque, and the hot springs are fantastic. The courtyard in our room was breathtakingly beautiful. To our pleasant surprise, the restaurant's food was delicious, with excellent Yunnan cuisine. We will definitely be back again. The hotel also provided complimentary executive car airport transfers and vouchers that could be used for dining or spa services at the hotel, which was a very nice touch.

This was the worst hotel choice of our trip to Kunming. The facilities are incredibly old and outdated. The family room had a sink right by the entrance, like a prep area, which I’ve never seen in any five-star hotel before – I honestly thought I’d booked an Airbnb where you can cook! 😂 There was also a slight musty smell in both the room and the hallway. On top of that, the overall service was just average. The complimentary bottled water was from a brand I’d never even heard of. Even on a high floor, it was quite noisy outside at night. 😂 This hotel is completely out of line with its 800+ RMB per night price tag. My brand loyalty to Golden Eagle is shattered!
