MMandyandCeciliaThis time I brought my child to Shenzhen, and choosing the Huanggang City Hotel exceeded our expectations. I truly recommend it to families traveling with kids. The hotel's location is excellent; the subway station is right outside, and there are plenty of restaurants and a night market nearby, making it very convenient for getting around and finding food. No need to rush, which is a huge relief when traveling with children.
The room was spacious, bright, clean, and odor-free. The bedding was soft and comfortable, and my child slept soundly. The hotel was very thoughtful, proactively providing child-friendly amenities like toothbrushes and small slippers, showing great attention to detail. The wet/dry separation in the bathroom made washing up safe and convenient, and the water pressure was stable, making for a great shower experience.
The front desk service was warm and attentive, and check-in was efficient and quick. The staff were also very patient with children. They even offer free late-night snacks, a self-service laundry room, and robot delivery to your room – all practical and convenient facilities. The breakfast selection was rich, with mild options suitable for kids.
The overall environment was quiet and elegant, with good soundproofing. It offers great value for money, is conveniently located, has attentive service, and is family-friendly. I'll definitely choose this hotel again when I bring my child to Shenzhen next time.

The hotel's location is excellent, just a 2-minute walk from the metro station, which connects to 4 different lines, making getting around super convenient. Especially handy is the Line 11 airport express, getting you to the airport in under an hour. Plus, there's a shopping mall right next door, so shopping is a breeze. I stayed in an executive room this time; the layout and flow were well-designed, and the room amenities were thoughtfully detailed. Room service was also very prompt.
The breakfast offered a wide variety of options, and the dining experience was great. The rice noodle rolls and ramen were made to order, and they even had tabletop cards to prevent long queues and crowding. The guest services team was warm, attentive, and responsive. Both the gym and swimming pool were quite clean. Overall, a very pleasant experience!

- Both our rooms at level 10 were relatively close to each other facing the Wong Tee Plaza. It might be a way of the said front desk staff allocating these rooms to us to compensate for our unpleasant check in experience (see below). Spectacular views and we managed to spectate the night light show on Saturday without needing to go to the Civic Centre.
- Facilities are great including 24-hour well equipped gym and sauna (best of all hotels in China we experienced so far).
- Rooms are relatively new and fully equipped with necessities, has a dyson air dryer, Toto automatic toilet, automated curtains and a steamer to iron the clothes.
- Breakfast had a lot of varieties to offer (personally loved the oden and sushi section), good service too.
- Housekeeping was amazing. As I was leaving my room, Joy asked if we were interested in their laundry services and we declined as we do not have much laundry to do.
After the first day of housekeeping, she noticed we did simple laundry (1-2 pieces of undergarment) and offered us a complimentary mini laundry detergent. We appreciate her thoughtfulness despite the fact that we initially declined her services.
- Check out was relatively seamless, I believe it was the front office manager that managed our check out and explained the deposit refund procedures accordingly.
- Concierge was decent too as they suggested we are better off getting a Didi to transfer our move to our next destination, and helped us load our bags to the Didi.
Cons
The only downside experience was check in. We requested if it would be possible to have interconnecting rooms (all good if not, at least as close to each other as possible within the same floor). We were advised that given interconnecting rooms are not available for the same type of rooms:
1.The staff provided an offer (upgrade to one of the bigger rooms that has interconnecting room with free 3 days hotel breakfast for 2 out of 4 pax). The quote/offer was outside of our budget hence we declined the offer and we just accept our original booking via Trip.com with no interconnecting rooms.
2.After we declined, the staff informed us that she miscalculated the price (from RMB 31k down to RMB 20k) for the same offer. This is very odd/confusing to us especially with the price difference due to miscalculation, and she was trying to push this offer to us again which we declined. At this point, whatever price quoted to us of this offer lost its credibility and we proceeded to stick to our original booking.
3.The staff said that she will notify us via WeChat (she added us on WeChat) once the room is ready. Understood at that time it was before check in time (i.e. before 3pm) hence we decided to grab lunch and come back after the check in time.
It was past 3pm and we heard nothing from her upon returning to hotel and had to approach the front desk to ask for an update. The same staff managed to provide us key card for one of the rooms while the other room is still not ready (it was past 3:20pm at that time). She said that she will arrange one of her coworkers to deliver the keycards to us once that other room is ready. Around 3:50-4:20pm, we heard nothing (I walked past the other room and noted the housekeeping has finished cleaning up the room and left). I had to go to the front desk to request an update and eventually obtained the keycard.
I am not sure if the above stems from the individual's motivation or if this is part of the hotel's standard procedure to aggressively upsell (even if we already said no) or if the front desk is pressured to meet monthly KPIs, but that left us an unpleasant check in experience and obviously did not represent the check in hospitality standards of the hotel itself.
Aside from the check in, we loved everything hence we had to give 4 out of 5.

GGuest UserThe environment here is excellent. It's located in a high-end apartment complex, with a rooftop garden on the 4th floor where you can relax. Since it's newly built, the elevators and hallways are all very new. The rooms and bathrooms are apartment-standard, and it's quiet at night. The washing machine is free and has laundry detergent. There's a balcony right next door for drying clothes, which is very convenient. There's also a refrigerator on the first floor, a dedicated dining area, and a convenience store, Hongshan Shopping Mall, and subway station right outside. It's very convenient for getting around, dining, and shopping. I highly recommend this place.

All the in-room facilities are voice-controlled, including a Tmall Genie smart speaker, and there's also a food delivery robot. The hotel has a swimming pool, a bar, and a cafe. The front desk, housekeeping, and restaurant staff were all very warm and attentive. They even upgraded us to a larger room for free. Breakfast offered a rich variety of options, and the rice noodle rolls were particularly delicious and fragrant. You can easily walk to the beach by cutting through a set of stairs and a food street, it's very close. Although it's not a sea-view room, the room offers great value for money. There are plenty of dining, drinking, and entertainment options nearby, and it's very close to the outlet mall.

GGuest UserWe drove from Dongguan, and it took about an hour and a half – just enough time for a nap in the car. However, check-in was really busy. We arrived around 3 PM and had to wait in a pretty long line, which made the kids a bit restless.
The lobby has a beautiful sea view. While we were checking in, the staff patiently explained the restaurant hours and activity facilities. I guess that's why check-in took a bit longer.
Our room was on the 11th floor, very close to the elevator, which was great, and it wasn't noisy at all. The sea view from the room was stunning. The room itself was very clean, and everything felt quite new. The staff proactively called ahead to ask about our needs and provided things like a bed rail, baby bathtub, and bottle sterilizer. Housekeeping was also on call whenever we needed them and even worried about taking too long and disturbing us. Their service attitude was absolutely top-notch.
The pool was very kid-friendly, and the lifeguards were constantly reminding boisterous children to be safe, so the safety measures were excellent. The infinity pool in the deep end offers sea views. The sand on the beach was quite clean, and there were plenty of rinsing stations, so we didn't have to queue up.
The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of options and tasted great, and it was also very accommodating for young babies. The only downside was the somewhat long wait for a table.

Ccircle920As the best hotel in Shenzhen, it truly lives up to expectations. Although it opened several years ago, it's incredibly well-maintained. The bedding and bath products are very thoughtfully chosen, and the welcome tea and snacks were a nice touch. The afternoon tea selection might not be huge, but it's very refined and tastes excellent. I particularly want to mention breakfast – the eggs Benedict were perfectly made, and the braised beef noodles were incredibly authentic. The fresh coconuts also met the high standards you'd expect from a luxury hotel.
However, there was a small hiccup during check-in. When we arrived at our room, we found the door wide open and a man sitting on the sofa! Luckily, a staff member was passing by in the hallway. After hearing what happened, they escorted us to the lobby to clarify the situation. Leo, the lobby manager, sincerely apologized for the hotel's error, and the solution he offered was acceptable. For someone who has stayed in many ultra-luxury hotels worldwide, it's quite unacceptable for a Mandarin Oriental to make such a basic mistake. This was truly a first for me, and I hope the hotel takes this seriously!

GGuest UserFor the past five years, Crowne Plaza Shenzhen has been my top choice every time I visit the city. The views are superb, and the location is incredibly convenient, whether I'm heading to Hong Kong or exploring Shenzhen. Both the Western restaurant's breakfast and the lounge's dinner are consistently excellent, and the swimming pool's operating hours and facilities are also spot-on. What's even more important is that the hotel's management and operational team are top-notch. The only thing I wish for is that they would join Trip.com's official IHG flagship store, so I could earn points from both platforms.
