A Relaxing Stay at The Yard Hotel Shanghai, Perfect Blend of Clean Comfort and Local Vibes. I stayed at The Yard Hotel Shanghai in December 2025, and it feels very new, and it exceeded my expectations for a mid-range hotel in a lively local neighborhood. Everything felt sparkling clean and fresh – from the moment I stepped in, the warm, natural design tones (think soft woods, earthy colors, and subtle Japanese-inspired greenery) created a calm and relaxing atmosphere throughout the property. It’s the kind of place that instantly helps you unwind after a day exploring Shanghai. The lobby is spacious and inviting, with plenty of natural light, lush plants, comfortable sofas, and tables – perfect for chilling with a coffee or just people-watching. My room was generously sized for the price point – very clean, with a big comfy bed topped with four plush pillows, a large TV, and a decent-sized shower and toilet. The overall vibe continued the hotel’s natural, soothing aesthetic. One small tip for winter visitors: There’s a small window that opens by default for ventilation, which made the room feel quite chilly at first. Simply open the curtain and close the window tightly – problem solved! The only minor downside was the lack of hangers in the bathroom, which was a bit inconvenient for a family when showering and needing to dry clothes or towels. Staff were fantastic – always eager to help, greeting us warmly every time we passed by, and making us feel genuinely welcome. The cleaning staff lady help me out with my laundry as the machine are all in chinese. But the real highlight? The surrounding neighborhood! The hotel is embedded in a vibrant local area with a whole stretch of shophouses packed with food options and daily necessities. You’ll be spoilt for choice – from street eats to proper meals, it’s a foodie’s paradise right on your doorstep. Overall, The Yard Hotel offers great value with its modern renovation, serene design, and unbeatable location for experiencing authentic Shanghai neighborhood life. Highly recommended for travelers wanting comfort without the touristy feel – I’d definitely return! Rating: 5/5

I booked this hotel for a night, when i had to stayed in Shanghai one more night. Its really close to a train station, which was really convenient for me. The staff was really kind, helpful, and you can check in later. The room was fine, it was clean, and the bed was comfortable. In price is also acceptable. If I would stay in Shanghai again, i would book this one again, but for those who would come to Shanghai more days and wanna explore, this hotel is not in the city center

GGuest UserWe stayed at this guesthouse with our kids for our trip to Disneyland. It's about a 10-minute drive from the park, and the owner provides a complimentary shuttle service, dropping us off in the morning and picking us up in the evening. We hadn't booked our tickets in advance, but the owner even helped us connect with a concierge service to get them. All the rooms are themed, which was a big hit, and it offers great value for money. Plus, the kids loved being able to feed the rabbits!
GGuest UserThis Bund hotel stay was absolutely amazing! It's just a 5-minute walk to the riverside, and my room had floor-to-ceiling windows with a perfect view of the Lujiazui 'Three-Piece Suit' – I could watch the Oriental Pearl Tower light up at night right from my bed. The smart toilet and automatic curtains were super convenient, and soaking in the bathtub while enjoying the river view was just heavenly! The freshly baked croissants at breakfast were so good they were practically addictive. The rooftop bar had incredible night views, and the cocktails created a fantastic ambiance. The front desk even proactively upgraded my room and sent welcome fruits, and the robot delivering food was adorable. The soundproofing was excellent; I slept like a baby until I woke up naturally. Plus, free laundry and drying service was such a thoughtful touch! The location is unbeatable – Yu Garden and Nanjing Road are within walking distance, and the subway station is right outside. For around 400+ RMB per person, it felt like a thousand-yuan experience. As a detail-oriented person, I was completely won over. I'm definitely booking this place again on my next trip to Shanghai!
MMenglitanle. The facilities are great, and the room is spacious. Every time I come to Shanghai, I stay at this hotel. The front desk service is excellent, and the cleaning staff do a thorough and meticulous job. I highly recommend this place; they even have free popcorn at the front desk and complimentary whiskey. My girlfriend and I always stay here. The movies are also great, and there's a free membership that allows screen casting. Rooms with windows offer a view of the plane trees.
IimnotminFrom the moment you step into the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund, the elegant charm of Old Shanghai beautifully intertwines with the Bund's vibrant bustle. From your room, you can take in the Lujiazui skyline, with the Huangpu River's day and night flow just outside your window. The personalized concierge service from Aaron Echole was incredibly meticulous, and the entire staff, from concierge to the front desk, exuded the calm sophistication of a long-standing luxury hotel. Enjoying a 'Shanghai Club' cocktail at the Long Bar in the evening felt like stepping back in time to the social scene of a century ago. An absolutely impeccable stay.
GGuest UserTerrible. Will not stay again. The check-in SOP was unclear, forcing guests to ask multiple questions, even for basic information like breakfast times and location. The room smelled of smoke, possibly due to old or poorly maintained air conditioning. The front desk staff denied there was a smoke smell and only after repeated requests did they show me other rooms, about half of which also smelled of smoke. Their service attitude was both arrogant and perfunctory. The operational procedures were also a mess; for example, after checking in, I found the room didn't even have a kettle and called to request one. Ten minutes later, housekeeping knocked on the door, saying they needed to replace the in-room magazine. It was bizarre to replace a monthly magazine after check-in. The kettle that was eventually delivered was wet inside and out, with a strong disinfectant smell inside. The ice bucket in the room also had water and already smelled foul when opened. The hotel management is riddled with loopholes everywhere; quality is in the details. The hard furnishings like the toilet and bathtub in the room were old, the shower handle was broken, and the water pressure was worse than a 3 or 4-star hotel. The linens were average. However, the bedding and mattress were good.
GGuest UserQuiet surroundings and lovely hotel. About 5.5km away from Shanghai Disneyland. Shopping centre about 350m from Novotel. Bedding, amenities and pillows OK. Perhaps can change one soft pillow to a harder pillow instead of two soft pillows. Fridge drinks provided. Water pressure in shower good with instant hot water supply. Aircon in the room pre-programmed to 26°C...so we had to request for a stand fan to ventilate our room especially after returning from dinner after 3 hrs. Hotel provided only 1 keycard so we had to take it with us when we left the room. Could not leave card in the slot to continue cooling it. Thanks for upgrading us to L15 by your Reception staffs. Free shuttle to Pudong Airport and Disneyland. Good service by all staffs... Even to Novotel's shuttle coach driver who helped us with our luggages. Thanks to all. 🙏
BBiezhiweiweianThe location of this guesthouse is absolutely unbeatable – an old house right in the city center, making it incredibly convenient for getting around. It's clean, tidy, and has a lovely fresh, minimalist style. All the toiletries, including towels, are disposable, which adds to the cleanliness. And honestly, the price for a place in the city center like this was surprisingly good! Very satisfied!
JjaspenI've wanted to stay at the W Shanghai - The Bund for a long time, and finally got to during my recent trip to Shanghai. It wasn't as perfect as I'd imagined.
First, the good points: The environment is nice, and the cleanliness is decent. The staff are very friendly, and the breakfast offers a wide variety. The outdoor bar was the best experience.
Now, for the less satisfying aspects:
1. Previously, when staying at hotels, you could contact scalpers or certain individuals on platforms to use their membership tiers for room upgrades. Since I booked in advance, I contacted them early about a possible upgrade. I was told that if there was an available room type on the day, I could be upgraded. However, on the day of check-in, they claimed there were no rooms available and didn't upgrade me. At the time, I checked the Ctrip app and saw that rooms *were* available. I'm a platinum member with upgrade benefits, and I still didn't get one.
2. My Ctrip booking included two complimentary drinks, but the front desk didn't provide vouchers during check-in. I only found out at the bar that I needed to go back to the front desk to get them.
3. I had a lot of things and wanted to use the black bag in the closet. Unfortunately, it was broken, and the hotel hadn't replaced it in time.
GGuest UserThe location is absolutely fantastic! It's right by the Bund in Zhonghua Road, making it super convenient to get to all the attractions. The room design is really cozy, with great attention to detail, and the cleanliness is impeccable. Plus, the price is very reasonable. This is definitely my top choice for accommodation when visiting Shanghai! 🌟
EElianaCThis review is long overdue! I was in Shanghai for a business trip in early March, and it happened to be raining heavily then. The underfloor heating gave me the warmest, most comfortable night's sleep, and the duvet cover felt incredibly soft. It was my first time staying in a Shikumen building, and the courtyard was so unique and stylish. Both the courtyard and the room's interior design were absolutely beautiful. The unit I stayed in was located on West Yan'an Road, very close to Xintiandi and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. It was perfect – I could just stroll back after dinner in Bei Li. Check-in was also a breeze. I saw that the host manages several other unique B&Bs, so I'd love to try them out sometime!
