I checked in first time with three nights for all visits in Qingdao and as planned left my two big luggages 29 inch at the hotel for storage. I went on in an adventurous mode to Yantai and Weihai for two nights. After I returned from Yantai, I met up with the receptionist Zheng Ao Ying (郑奥瑩) who helped me to arrange for re admission into the hotel. She did in a very timely and orderly manner and gave her the best she could. A big thank you to her and the hotel for such hospitality. I am writing to encourage more travellers to travel in a more adventurous manner to see more of the cities in Shandong. With the help of the people like in this hotel I am sure things will mostly work out at the end. 谢谢。

**The Soul of Qingdao’s Heritage**
The *Liyuan*—a unique urban residential form born from over a century of cultural fusion—mirrors Qingdao’s evolution as a crossroads of civilisations. Our 1920s brick-and-timber courtyard complex epitomises this tradition, its enclosed layout historically nurturing neighbourly bonds and fostering the city’s vibrant *Liyuan* culture. These courtyards once thrived as stages for opera societies, folk artists, and the legendary "courtyard-hopping" (*Chuanli*) performances, including a 1932 appearance by renowned xiangsheng (comic dialogue) master Ma Sanli.
**Where Heritage Breathes Modernity**
Faithfully preserving the original architecture’s layout, structure, and aesthetic, we’ve revitalised the space through a "renewal through heritage" philosophy. Historical authenticity intertwines with contemporary comfort, immersing guests in a living tapestry of Qingdao’s past while delivering modern luxury.
**Thoughtfully Crafted Spaces**

**Key British English Nuances**
• "Revitalised" over "revitalized", "harmonised" over "harmonized"
• Culturally embedded explanations: *Liyuan* (italicised as foreign term), *Chuanli* with contextual gloss
• Emphasis on lyrical flow over rigid literal translation (e.g., "living tapestry of Qingdao’s past")
• Period-specific references clarified for international audiences (e.g., "xiangsheng (comic dialogue)")

Excellent
SShengsheng_This was my first time staying at an Atour Light hotel. The style is really interesting, with a predominantly blue theme, making it feel more geared towards a younger crowd.
The room size was pretty standard, not particularly large, but the cleanliness and service were excellent in every aspect. The front desk staff was very enthusiastic and quickly helped with any requests we had.
However, the biggest issue with the room was the poor soundproofing. You could clearly hear people laughing or talking loudly in nearby rooms. This is definitely something that could use improvement.
VvvxggHampton by Hilton is consistently reliable, as always! Eric provided warm and attentive service, making the check-in process super fast. The room was clean and odor-free, and the Serta mattress offered the perfect balance of softness and firmness for an excellent sleep. The breakfast was plentiful, with a fresh and delicious made-to-order station. The convenient transportation and free parking make it my top choice for business travel; I'll definitely stay here again! 💯 The Peter Thomas Roth toiletries felt premium. The breakfast had a wide variety, was replenished promptly, and the service was thoughtful without being intrusive – a truly fantastic experience!

GGuest UserThe room was incredibly comfortable, and the front desk staff were so welcoming and helpful. Overall, it was an excellent experience. If I need a place to stay again, I'll definitely come back. Their service is very thoughtful. I have to say, it was truly wonderful, and the morning shift staff were all so dedicated and enthusiastic.
NNanchengdaweiziThe room absolutely meets five-star standards, and the hotel overall feels like home. Breakfast is incredibly rich and varied, and the location is fantastic – just a few minutes' walk to May Fourth Square, and right across the street from Qingdao's bustling MixC mall. Winni, the staff member who checked us in, had an exceptional service attitude; seeing that we had elderly family with us, she thoughtfully arranged a non-smoking room on a quiet floor. The hotel gym is also quite good. The only minor issue is that the underground parking is a bit like a maze, but the parking attendant was very kind.

Good
KKelvinTraveling with my child, I booked a king-sized bed room and was worried about the space, but the front desk upgraded us to a family-themed room, which was incredibly thoughtful! The upgraded room was a wonderful surprise, complete with a B.Duck themed tent, a Ludo game rug, and cartoon pillows. My child had a blast as soon as we entered, and all our travel fatigue instantly disappeared. The room had excellent natural light, with warm sunshine streaming through the large French windows. The wooden floor was warm and comfortable, allowing adults to relax and children to play without bothering each other.
The hotel lobby is grand and elegant, and there's also a 'Bird Club' kids' play area with slides and rocking horses, making it super convenient for parents to relax while their kids play. Molly, a staff member, provided smiling service throughout, and check-in was efficient and patient, full of care in every detail. This hotel is my top choice for family trips; the proactive and warm gesture of upgrading our room was a huge plus. I highly recommend it to families visiting Qingdao with children!

Eemily_lin88The room was generally clean, but I'd still recommend bringing disposable bedding when traveling. The hotel hallway was odor-free, well-ventilated, and had great natural light. The service was excellent; even though we arrived in the early hours, check-in was super quick. The price was good, and it's right in the city center, just across the street from May Fourth Square. Plus, it's very convenient for both subway and bus. I'd definitely consider staying here again next time. Satisfied!

GGuest UserWhen prices were rising during the National Day holiday, 450 a night was pretty good compared to other hotels. The room was clean, the facilities were a little old, the air conditioner was not very user-friendly, the room staff would take the initiative to greet us when they saw us, it was not too far from the sea and it was acceptable, there was a yard for parking

AAnxious but kind📍The Maizkaren Hotel boasts an excellent location, situated directly in front of a large shopping mall and a subway station. This positioning provides immense convenience for guests, making it easy to access shopping, dining, and transportation options. Whether you're in town for business or leisure, this central location is a standout feature that can significantly enhance your stay.
💸Price:
One of the hotel’s most appealing aspects is its budget-friendly pricing. For travelers who prioritize affordability, the Maizkaren Hotel offers good value for money. This can be particularly advantageous for longer stays or for families and groups who need to manage their budgets carefully.
🧼Cleanliness:
The hotel had an unpleasant smell. This is a significant drawback as cleanliness is a fundamental expectation for most guests. An unpleasant odor can stem from various issues such as inadequate cleaning, poor ventilation, or plumbing problems. This aspect requires immediate attention from the hotel management to ensure a better guest experience.
Basic Room Amenities: Comfortable beds, clean linens, working air conditioning/heating, and essential toiletries.
🛜Wi-Fi: Available for free.
📈Recommendations for Improvement:
1. Address the Smell Issue: Conduct a thorough investigation to identify the source of the unpleasant smell. This might require deep cleaning, improving ventilation, or fixing plumbing issues.
2. Maintain Competitive Pricing: Continue to offer affordable rates to attract budget-conscious travelers.
3. Enhance Cleaning Protocols: Implement stricter cleaning protocols to ensure all areas, especially common spaces and guest rooms, are clean and odor-free.
4. Improve Amenities: ensure that all room amenities are in working order.
Maizkaren Hotel in Qingdao offers an unbeatable location and a budget-friendly price, making it an attractive choice for many travelers. However, the issue of the unpleasant smell needs to be addressed immediately to improve the overall guest experience. With some attention to cleanliness and maintenance, the hotel can become a more appealing option for visitors to Qingdao.
Much love ❤️

GGuest UserThe room's location is pretty good, quite close to Licang District center, Wanda Plaza, and Licun Night Market, and transportation is also very convenient. The front desk service attitude was also good. The downside is that the room isn't very soundproof, and the TV in the room didn't work. I reported the TV issue to the front desk, but it still couldn't be watched properly. Overall, the experience was decent, and the room price wasn't expensive for a National Day holiday trip.
