Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao

Facilities: Absolutely five-star hotel facilities, and the hardware is well-maintained. The front desk gave me a connecting room, which was very convenient for taking care of my elderly parents. Much appreciated. The swimming pool is definitely a highlight, with both hot and cold plunge pools in the changing rooms. Cleanliness: The housekeeping staff cleaned daily and replenished drinking water promptly. Environment: The lobby environment is excellent, elegant and grand, and prices are reasonable. Location: Situated on Hong Kong Middle Road, Qingdao's most bustling CBD. It's within walking distance to May Fourth Square, and a small door from the lobby leads directly to MixC Mall. Extremely convenient. Breakfast: A wide variety of options; my favorite was the smoked salmon. However, it gets quite crowded during peak hours, and the seating arrangements are a bit too cramped. Not enough space. Overall, my three-day stay was a great experience. It's the most cost-effective five-star hotel on Hong Kong Middle Road.

We're not fans of crowded tourist spots, and our family was looking for a quieter place to visit. Staying here turned out to be a delightful surprise. During check-in, Molly understood our preferences and, instead of just recommending popular Instagrammable places, she suggested Signal Hill Park. From there, we got a fantastic view of the red roofs and green trees, and it wasn't crowded at all. She also gave us some useful tips for getting around by taxi. Our room was clean and bright, with plenty of outlets, which was super convenient for charging our cameras and phones. The breakfast selection was rich and balanced, with a good mix of meat and vegetables. The hotel's location is great for transportation; it's easy to get to various attractions by subway or taxi. The hotel environment is quiet, so after a day of sightseeing, we could fully relax. Molly was very friendly and patiently answered all our questions. It felt really reassuring and comfortable for our family trip.

Absolutely fantastic! This established five-star hotel truly lives up to its reputation. The service is incredibly attentive, and it's one of the few five-star hotels that manages to be so clean, tidy, and thoughtful. The breakfast spread is super rich and everything tastes delicious! From now on, whenever I come to Qingdao, this will be my only choice for accommodation! Highly recommended!

I stayed here for 5 days and 4 nights with my 80-year-old mother. Overall, the hotel's location is quite good, right next to MixC shopping mall, making it convenient for getting around. There's also a 24-hour pharmacy on the ground floor, which was handy for buying medicine for my mother. The room was spacious, clean, and tidy. The biggest downside to the hotel is that the facilities are outdated. When checking in, the ID scanner wasn't working, and they said the signal was bad, asking us to wait. During this time, they tried another card and three different computers before finally completing the check-in. The most ridiculous part was that when showering, if someone else used the sink or toilet, the water would become either scalding hot or freezing cold. Also, after 9 AM, there's a queue for breakfast, but there are no chairs for elderly guests to sit and rest. The breakfast itself was also very average and didn't seem to be up to five-star standards.

This comforter hadn't been changed for two days. I only discovered this disgusting blood stain when I accidentally pulled it back while looking for something before checking out today. How could the staff not see such a huge blood stain when making the bed? Or did they just not change the duvet cover at all? The front desk staff apologized when I checked out, but as a guest, I really hope such issues don't happen again. Strengthening room management is just as important as service attitude. This isn't my first time staying at this hotel, but this experience was truly terrible. The phone in the room didn't even work.

However, after checking into the Shangri-La, Guest Relations Manager Cherry's recommendations for lesser-known spots unlocked a whole new way to experience Qingdao. Tired of the overcrowded, Instagrammable sites like Zhanqiao Pier and Badaguan, I was looking for quiet, off-the-beaten-path viewpoints. Cherry, understanding my preferences, suggested heading up Signal Hill to the revolving observation deck. From there, you get a panoramic view of the old town's red roofs and azure sea, with fewer crowds – perfect for photos, and a great way to avoid large tour groups. For dining, she recommended Grandma Haiyan's Seafood Potsticker, an old local favorite. The cuttlefish potstickers, with their thin skin and generous filling, are a hidden culinary gem on Zhongshan Road. Cherry's communication was professional and poised, and she proactively shared tips on avoiding common tourist traps and expenses at attractions. While the hotel's accommodation quality was impeccable, it was Cherry's professional yet passionate service that truly stood out, breaking the stereotype of conventional front desk service. She thoughtfully curated a personalized itinerary for me, resulting in an exceptional experience. Definitely worthy of a five-star recommendation!
