"A truly enjoyable hotel experience with friends!
The family room, located one floor up the stairs, was quieter, with a spacious tatami area and a view of the nearby art museum.
The hotel staff spoke English better than most hotels in Tokyo, and we enjoyed a casual chat every time we met. The basement common area was very comfortable, with chess and poker boards available for borrowing. There was also a shared kitchen and laundry room.
Unfortunately, strong winds and heavy rain hit both days of our stay, and the Hakone Tozan train was out of service, so we had to go to the hot springs resort. Be aware that nearby restaurants only serve lunch, with most closing in the afternoon. In such inclement weather, we had to rely on convenience stores for food."

AAnonymous UserA very beautiful ryokan, old but very well maintained. The decor is so beautiful. From the moment you check in, you will be in good hands of the ryokan, well served with friendliness. Keiseki meals (dinner and breakfast) are served in the room. Food is delicious! And love the private outdoor onsen!! U get to book for 30 minutes per day for the stay. Well worth the price.

AAnonymous UserThis hotel is right next to Lake Ashi, just a few minutes' walk from the shore. Outside the lobby, there's a hot spring foot bath where you can relax your body and mind after a day of sightseeing. The rooms are clean and tidy, and the bedding is soft and comfortable. There's also a small shop in the lobby selling Hakone specialties. Both the dinner and breakfast buffets offer a wide variety of dishes; I particularly enjoyed a certain grilled fish, and the desserts were plentiful – it was a feast for both the eyes and the palate! I hope to visit again. The hotel is very close to Togendai Ropeway Station and the Togendai Pirate Ship pier, just about a 7-8 minute walk from the back exit, making it very convenient for transportation.

YYoon_chanThis charming inn is a hidden gem nestled in the forest, just a stone's throw from the Hakone Garasu no Mori Museum. Surrounded by nature, it was a true luxury to experience both the peaceful ambiance at night and the refreshing morning views.
I arrived a bit late and unfortunately missed the welcome drink, but it sounds like guests who check in earlier can enjoy it. A thoughtful touch was the complimentary coffee and tea available for guests at the cafe, perfect for a little break.
The hot springs were wonderfully relaxing, and the in-room amenities were all thoughtfully chosen and stylish. Every small detail made me feel incredibly glad I chose this place, ensuring a truly relaxing stay.
The breakfast buffet was absolutely captivating, with so many delicious options it was hard to choose! There was an impressive array of dishes, many of which aren't typically found in everyday meals, making it easy to overindulge. It definitely set a happy tone for the whole day.
From my room window, I had a beautiful view of the autumn leaves, which were absolutely stunning. I'd love to visit again in autumn to enjoy the seasonal scenery.

This stay at Asante Inn in Hakone was full of surprises! The Japanese-style garden is full of Japanese Zen, and it is super beautiful to take pictures. The owner is enthusiastic and fluent in English. The African artworks in the store are unique and come from his African experience. The stories are super interesting.
Staying in dorm, you will meet travelers from all over the world. The atmosphere is good, and the price is 1200 yen per night, which is very cost-effective. Breakfast and dinner are about 1200 yen, and they are delicious and authentic. You can also make an appointment for private time to soak in the hot springs, which is private and comfortable. There is also a luggage transportation service at Yumoto Station, which is super considerate. I sincerely recommend coming here to experience a different Hakone trip!

GGuest UserOverall an ok stay. A bit hard to find, very limited English spoken by the staff which led to some confusion (even for the representatives who were assigned to us by English speakers). Felt quite formal and not that warm
Room was more or less as expected, and the dinner and breakfast meals were quite elaborate. Felt that breakfast was actually the stronger meal of the two, so wasn’t necessarily worth it to pay extra for dinner. I’d likely skip doing dinner in the future. The room attendant who helped us was very kind and attentive, although we had a bit of language barrier given we don’t speak Japanese.
The big disappointment was even though the ryokan is advertised as allowing guests to book one of the larger hot springs on the property for private use for 45 minutes, we weren’t able to do this. We arrived within the designated check in time and were told that it was all booked up for the day. There was no way to book in advance and we were only staying for one night, and they didn’t try to accommodate allowing us to book at all for the next day before checkout. This really hampered the experience overall - we weren’t that interested in using the gender segregated facility (was traveling with my partner who is the opposite gender) as we wouldn’t be able to spend time together, and the tub in our room was quite small.
They should amend this policy to allow all guests to book a private hot spring time or not advertise it as part of the room! Feels like we got cheated out of the service and we weren’t offered anything else as an alternative. I would have booked another ryokan had I known this were the case - there are many others in Hakone which are much better value and have nicer / newer private facilities for around the same price. I wouldn’t recommend Yama no Chaya given this was a big part of what we thought would make it a good experience

GGuest UserWe got to the hotel in the beautiful location just before 3pm and we got given a little tour of the place and then got shown to our room. The staff are very friendly and do their best to speak English. A lovely lady was in charge of our hospitality throughout our stay and she first showed us that there is a public hot spring and a private hot spring and asked us if we would like to book a time to use the private hot spring, we booked a time as we checked in but then we didn’t use it as we were happy with our private hot spring in the room. We also booked a time for dinner and they arrived at that time
Promptly with A LOT of food. We also got a choice for a staple food and we chose some steak which was high quality and delicious, as well as the lobster (on the menu it said grilled prawn but a lobster is what came and it was delicious). We ordered a few beers and a bottle of wine with room service and it always came quickly and was nice and cold.
The private hot spring is absolutely boiling but it’s a good experience and there’s ice water provided which helps.
Breakfast came at 8.30am and it was also huge! It didn’t come with coffee but I ordered some and that was easy enough.
The lady who served our food explained every dish and how to eat it and she was always extremely friendly and attentive.
Would recommend!

After I got the hotel confirmation letter, it seemed to be wrong, 8,800 per night? OK, I didn't have time because I was catching a flight, otherwise I really wanted to have a good argument with the hotel. The road to the hotel is also very steep, and you need to go up a very steep slope. I will not choose this hotel again

IimleandrovA nice hostel, very recommended if you are a budget traveller. They also have a private onsen. I like the place. Just bring and put a mosquito repellant when you stay outside of the hostel, it is given because Hakone is located in a mountain area with lots of trees.
