Hotel Green Plaza Hakone

It was a nice hotel with helpful staff, but the location is not very accessible. Buffet spead is average and nothing to shout about except the Apple Pie.

We stayed here for one night as a group of three and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is a bit old-fashioned, but it was clean, well maintained, and had a charming, traditional atmosphere. We booked a Japanese-style room with futons. The room was spacious and divided into two separate areas, giving us plenty of room to relax. We had a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji from our room, and the hotel’s Japanese garden also offered great views of the mountain. Setting up the futons ourselves was easy, and the room was equipped with yukatas, towels, and slippers for visiting the onsen. The staff were friendly, spoke good English, and made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. Both the onsen and the dinner buffet were included in the room rate, which made the stay feel like excellent value. We enjoyed the buffet before heading to the onsen. There was an impressive selection of dishes—almost too many to choose from! Most of the food was Japanese, and while not every dish stood out, everything we tried was good. Alcoholic drinks were available for an additional charge and were not included with dinner. The onsen was definitely the highlight of our stay. There are separate bathing areas for men and women, and the rules were clearly explained, making it easy to use even as first-time visitors. The facilities were clean and included both indoor and outdoor baths. From the outdoor bath on the men’s side, we had a fantastic view of Mt. Fuji. We had read reviews saying the mountain was only visible from the women’s side, but that wasn’t our experience. Relaxing in the hot spring while looking at Mt. Fuji was unforgettable. The changing and washing areas were clean, and the opening hours were generous. Tattoos are not permitted in the onsen, so it’s best to bring your own tattoo cover stickers if you need them. They are also available for purchase at the front desk, although we found them to be a little expensive. The hotel is located quite far from central Hakone, so it’s worth allowing plenty of travel time. However, it’s easy to reach by bus, and it’s also located right next to the Hakone Ropeway station, making it very convenient for visiting the area’s main attractions. We didn’t use the hotel’s shuttle service because the walk from the nearby bus stop was only a couple of minutes. One thing to keep in mind is that there aren’t any convenience stores or other shops within walking distance, so it’s a good idea to buy anything you might need before arriving. Overall, we were extremely happy with our stay. Compared to many other hotels in the Hakone area, this one was noticeably more affordable, and we felt it offered excellent value for money considering everything that was included. If you’re looking for a traditional onsen experience with incredible views of Mt. Fuji, this hotel is an excellent choice.

Very friendly staff, great location to see the Mount Fuji but the hotel is a bit outdated.

The hotel photos included pictures of a swimming pool, but it turned out to belong to a different property, which made me feel misled. The food was delicious, with a wide variety of choices. Since our room overlooked a construction site, we had to pay extra to upgrade to a different room.

Hotel location is good connection to obako ropeway station. 3 min walk from the back of hotel. Good dinner and breakfast wt a lot selections.

The photo and the actual room is totally different. To spent Aud$411 for one night , I don’t think it worth it. The view from our room were just the roof top of other buildings. Nothing special at all, old buildings. When walk down the corridor , it was dark and dime. It is an old hotel. The room was average , bath room was very small and the receptionists were not very welcoming. The first receptionist was quite bitter, he gave wrong information how to get around , we literally waited for an hour and we were told by the bus driver mentioned this was not working. On the second day , same receptionist said the same thing , he was not quite happy he said “I told you that day…. “ I addressed to him it was not working at all. They are not very informative at all. The second receptionist was very helpful , unfortunately he left his work before resolve the problem. He gave the correct advise. The third receptionist was a lady, she was quite helpful and show us the right way. Thank you for that . It took us about 2 hours to navigate how to travel to another place. We have booked a taxi, no taxi around that area. Just so hard get around. Imagine you have all the luggages to pull around. We didn’t have a chance to have dinner because no restaurant around that area. Comfortable mattress, quiet place and breakfast was average. I think we could find a better place to stay. I couldn’t be bothered to take more pictures. Not recommended.

The ryokan style room was clean and cozy, but a bit small for a family of 5. Buffet-style dinner and breakfast were decent, with selection of both Japanese and Western options. Staff were very polite and helpful, front desk staff speaks good English too. Good location for self drive travellers, near to attractions like Owakudani and Open Air Museum. The public bath (both indoor and outdoor) were great. Outdoor female onsen had the Mt Fuji view. Clear instructions to use the public bath. We had a really enjoyable stay here.

Hotel is abit dated and old by now compared to when I stayed many years ago. Still it’s a relatively clean, nice and comfy hotel, with nice Fuji view in both onsen and surrounding area. Overall it’s a lovely stay and we are happy to be back again.
