5-Star Hotels in Melbourne

The hotel's location is fantastic, super convenient for all of Melbourne's attractions. The room with a balcony was airy and comfortable, but the housekeeping was quite poor (bloodstains on the duvet cover + worn-out sheets), and the in-room facilities were noticeably old. However, the front desk was proactive in addressing these room issues. Overall, for the 4 nights we stayed, it was the Westin as usual.

The location is absolutely unbeatable, right in the heart of Melbourne's city center. Stepping out, you're immediately at St. Paul's Cathedral and Federation Square, with major shopping areas and attractions all within walking distance, making getting around and shopping incredibly convenient. The hotel itself boasts a style of understated luxury. The rooms are spacious, with a high-quality decor, and the bathroom amenities are top-notch, ensuring a very comfortable stay. The service throughout was attentive and thoughtful, with professional and detailed concierge and turndown services that were promptly delivered. The breakfast spread was extensive, offering a full range of both Chinese and Western options with fresh ingredients. The only minor downsides were that the building has some age, with a few facilities showing their years, and during peak breakfast hours, it can get crowded with a slightly slower refill rate for dishes. Overall, it remains a prime choice among Melbourne's high-end hotels, perfect for both business trips and leisure stays.

This was a trip with my wife in Melbourne for a few days before we head off to Tassie. We stayed at the loft room (note the loft bedrooms are located on lower floors, ours was on 2nd floor). On the arrival day, while we were off loading our luggages from our car (there were a few bags as we had just gone to a vineyard and had purchased 4 bottles), the 2 guards at the back door entrance, whom have clearly saw us, but didn’t assist with the luggage, nor inform the front desk to assist us. We ended up carrying the multiple luggages (along with the 4 wine bottles) while the guards watched.  On the second day, the guards were friendly - they assisted with doors and greeted us. On cleanliness, after first night, our toothpaste was empty but cleaning staff did not replace with a new set, but overall room was clean to basic standard.  However, our room had a bit of odd well on second night (first night was fine) not sure what the issue was but it did smell like kitchen cooking smell (we didn’t cook there). Breakfast was of good value and the staff working there were friendly and very responsive, I would probably say that the best experience was our breakfast thought out our stay there.

Had a comfortable stay for 3 nights. Hotel about 15-20mins walk from city centre and can pop onto tram in free tram zone. Toilet bowl had a smelly drainage smell which holds presence in the air everytime you flush, was pretty unpleasant.

Plush carpets, sparkling bathrooms, and neatly made beds—everything felt fresh and immaculate throughout my stay. Housekeeping did a flawless job refreshing the room each day without ever interrupting my schedule. 👨💼 Friendly, Attentive Service Customer service here is both professional and warm. Front desk staff greeted me by name and were quick to offer directions, recommend hidden-gem eateries, and help with luggage. Room service was punctual, meals were presented beautifully, and every staff interaction made me feel genuinely welcome—not just another guest. 🧭 Thoughtful Facilities It’s the little things at Quay West that stand out: • A well-equipped kitchenette in each suite––perfect for a relaxing breakfast or a quick late-night snack. • In-room laundry facilities saved me from hunting down laundromats mid-trip. • The comfortable lounge and communal spaces offer a quiet place to work or unwind. • Gym and heated indoor pool, both kept spotless and perfect for a post-city exploration cooldown.

This is an older five-star hotel with decent service. Its location is similar to Tsim Sha Tsui East in Hong Kong – quiet, with many famous shops, bars, and Western restaurants nearby. However, you'll notice a lot of tourists around when you step outside. The breakfast is pretty good and acceptable, offering standard fare like bread, eggs, coffee, cheese, ham, and fruit – all the daily essentials. The main drawback is that the hotel is too close to the two adjacent buildings. There are very few rooms with a view; most rooms get little to no sunlight throughout the day and require the curtains to be drawn almost constantly. The bathroom is particularly bad. The shower screen only covers half the area, so water inevitably splashes all over the floor, making it a mess. This means you often have to use bath towels to dry the floor, leading to constantly wet carpets and very dirty towels in the long run.

For my 21-day trip to Australia, I stayed at 11 hotels, mainly across Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. The Hotel Windsor, Melbourne (very low value for money) As for Le Méridien Melbourne, there's not much to say, honestly. It's a pretty standard international 5-star hotel. The location is good; Parliament House is very close, and Chinatown and Flinders Street Station are all within walking distance. The service and facilities meet expectations, though the outdoor pool was too cold to use in the mornings.

Out of the 6-7 hotels I stayed at in Australia, this one was among the most expensive, but it generally didn't live up to expectations. Firstly, the hotel environment was quite dim, though that might just be their style. Secondly, the room wasn't very spacious, perhaps because it was a twin room. Lastly, there were issues with the facilities; the bathroom faucet handle was broken and kept falling off. Since our days were packed, we didn't bother reporting it. One time, the faucet nearly fell on my foot. I'm not sure why the hotel hasn't fixed this; it seems like an issue they should have discovered a long time ago.

This Marriott is a bit far from the city, but it's a quick ride away. The first night, our room didn't have transparent windows, so it felt a bit dark. We then switched to a corner room, but the constant door slamming in the mornings was really disruptive to our sleep. Other than that, everything else was pretty good. They offer express check-out, which is a plus.

I booked this hotel during a Ctrip promotion, and honestly, the price was a steal at 1000/night. First, the pros: Location: It's right in the city center, first ring, free zone. You can take the tram for a free city walk. If you're on a day tour, the bus pick-up point is just a two-minute walk away. The front desk staff, Holy, and the senior gentleman from concierge were both very nice. Now, for the cons: The coffee spoon wasn't clean, it was dirty. The minibar fridge had cooling issues; the bottom was full of water. These, I could overlook. However, and seriously, as a Hyatt Globalist, I rarely stay at InterContinental, and I have never, in all my previous experiences, encountered an unlocked room door. I left my room early Friday morning for a day tour and returned at 9:30 PM to find my room door unlocked, just as pictured. I was shocked. The next day, I spoke to the duty manager, and they checked the surveillance footage, confirming that no one had entered my room. But my stay experience was truly poor. Such carelessness, forgetting to lock the guest's door after cleaning. Plus, this hotel's elevators don't require a room card swipe. At 9:30 PM, both the front desk and concierge were empty, making it easy for anyone to access any floor. I somewhat regret not spending a bit more to stay at the Grand Hyatt. Also, I heard this hotel is rebranding to Regent, oh my! InterContinental truly feels like a makeshift operation. To think they dare to rebrand to Regent like this! This hotel usually sells at the same price as the Grand Hyatt, and if it weren't for this promotion, I definitely wouldn't have chosen it. InterContinental left such a terrible impression on me; it's really hard not to come here and complain.
