4-Star Hotels in Yufu

This was my first time staying at a hot spring ryokan, and I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Upon arrival, we were offered welcome tea and snacks, and they even helped us take our luggage to the room. Our stay included dinner and breakfast, and the meals were incredibly rich and delicious. The main course for dinner was Wagyu shabu-shabu. If you don't eat beef, you can inform them in advance. If you wait until the day of, there might be an additional charge. The room was huge, split over two floors. The bedroom was on the second floor, while the first floor mainly consisted of the living room and a private hot spring area. The private hot spring even had both indoor and outdoor sections, which was a fantastic experience. Since I don't speak Japanese and only a little English, they were very patient in translating everything during our interactions (check-in, meal explanations, etc.). When checking out, they escorted us to our car. During check-in, they also asked if we'd like a ride to Yufuin Station upon check-out, but since we had a private car, we didn't use that service, so I'm not sure if there's a charge for it. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

Superb location right in the middle of Yufuin main shopping street. Enjoyed the ryokan room with in-room onsen bathtub and the skincare and haircare set provided. Only improvement needed is the dinner and breakfast meal and this ryokan would be the best choice!

Everything was perfect in this hotel! Room is spacious and there are both indoor and outdoor private onsen in the room. The futon was the softest and most comfortable I’ve ever had in Japanese onsen hotels. Dinner was amazing and breakfast was good enough. It would be better if we can choose Japanese or Western style for breakfast. We was looking for grilled fish or sth in Japanese style. Will visit again definitely!

Hotel service facilities: We drove there so we could drive directly to the hotel entrance. The entrance is not big, but there is free parking. In the mountains, the environment is very private and the air is fresh. I came here specifically to experience Japanese-style accommodation and hot springs. There are not many rooms in the whole hotel, and they are very clean. There are public hot springs and private hot springs in the rooms, but there is no place to take a bath in the room, so you need to go to the public hot spring to take a bath. Service: As soon as we arrived at the door of the hotel, two waiters came out to receive us, one to guide and one to help with luggage; we also sat there to check in in the lobby, with wet towels and drinks. We ordered breakfast and dinner, and they were delivered directly to the room at a set time; when we left, there would also be two waiters to greet us. The service is extreme. Food: Very rich and classic Japanese set meals. I don’t eat raw food, so I made arrangements in advance. There are vegetables, fish and seafood, which are very rich. Another point is that it is too close to nature, and occasionally various small animals will greet you 😂

We fell in love with this villa on first sight! The pictures don’t do it justice at all. The surroundings and rooms are beautiful, and the entire property is newly renovated so it’s clean and modern. We appreciate how the host is generous to provide amenities and toiletries, which makes our stay even more memorable.  The bedding is comfortable, and the towels are also of good quality. Additionally, we also enjoyed the washer and dryer, so we can have fresh clean clothes daily! Very thoughtful indeed!  Overall, it’s an amazing stay at Sokaku Residence and we’ll highly recommend you to book a stay here!

All the hotel staff were fantastic! I didn't book the half-board option on Trip.com, but I successfully added it via email, and the staff were very thoughtful, asking about any food allergies. The room was generally very clean, and toiletries were provided. The only slight drawback was the moss in the onsen. The inn also has a car park. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. There's a convenience store just a few minutes' drive away, which is super convenient! Already looking forward to my next stay!

The room is fully equipped with amenities, so you can literally just bring yourself. The hot spring bathhouse has two indoor pools and one outdoor pool. Towels and a water dispenser are provided on-site, and there are lockers with electronic locks for your belongings. The massage service is available in-room, and the masseuses are very professional, meticulously asking about areas to focus on or avoid beforehand.

This onsen hotel is great! We opted for the half-board plan (dinner and breakfast included), which was super convenient. Although the hotel is a bit older, everything is very well-maintained. The shower pressure was excellent, and the wet/dry separation in the bathroom was really good. Japanese hotels are always clean, of course. It's also just a 5-minute walk (300 meters) from Yufuin Station. Overall, we were very satisfied with everything! 👍

For a one-night stay with two meals in Yufuin, this hotel offers a very reasonable price. However, the hot spring itself is quite average; it feels more like heated tap water, and the bath is rather small. The highlight, though, is the private family bath. Since there aren't many guests, you can take your time and relax. Because our room was on the first floor, we had a private outdoor bath. The public and family baths are available to guests staying in rooms on the second floor, which means the family bath isn't too crowded and you don't have to wait. That said, the surrounding greenery isn't particularly appealing, and the overall ambiance is quite ordinary. On the positive side, every staff member was friendly and very helpful, and they also provided shuttle service to and from the train station. The hotel is a bit of a distance from the main hot spring street, so you'll definitely need the shuttle service or a taxi to get around.

This hotel was definitely the best one of our trip! The environment is superb. The absolute highlight was their Sukiyaki dinner with Wagyu beef included – that Wagyu was absolutely divine, incredibly tender and melt-in-your-mouth. The hot springs were also amazing, no complaints there. The only downsides were that the bedroom wasn't blackout and not soundproof. I was woken up by the light and the birds chirping in the morning.
