I stayed here in November and then again in January. My first stay was pretty good, mainly because of the hot spring, which was a nice bonus. This time, I booked a month in advance, but they put me in the very last room at the end of the hallway. It makes me wonder if they're not too keen on Chinese guests. When I asked the front desk if I could have a late check-out by an hour, they flat-out refused. I'm quite disappointed this time around.

very close to a bus station with a family mart right across the street, convenient location to city center, could be better with more washing machine and dryer units but front desk assisted well with clearing unclaimed laundry, very cozy room and pretty deco, free drinks in basement with a cafe to purchase drinks and food

The room is quite spacious, allowing me to open a 24-inch suitcase. There are two supermarkets downstairs that stay open late, making it very convenient for shopping. Multiple bus stops nearby offer easy access to anywhere you want to go. There's a direct subway line to Osaka, and getting to Arashiyama is also convenient, taking less than 30 minutes.

The location is super convenient. From JR Kyoto Station, take bus number 9 and get off at Shijo Horikawa. The bus stop is right in front of the hotel. There's also a 7-Eleven next door. The room isn't huge, but it's clean and tidy, and the front desk staff were very warm and attentive.

I had a great stay at Agora Kyoto Karasuma. The hotel has a calm, elegant atmosphere, and the rooms are thoughtfully designed with a minimalist Japanese style that feels both modern and cozy. The location is perfect, close to transportation, shops, and great local restaurants, which made getting around Kyoto very convenient.
The staff were kind, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything I needed. Their hospitality made the experience even better. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and I would definitely choose Agora Kyoto Karasuma again on my next visit to Kyoto.

Extremely satisfied with this hotel!
The supermarket downstairs is incredibly convenient for groceries and daily necessities. There's a bus stop right outside with routes to various attractions and Kyoto Station, so no need for the subway.
The room facilities are brand new, clean, and hygienic. I loved the skincare products available for self-collection in the lobby and the Pola shampoo and conditioner in the room. Plus, the free-flow drinks from 6-8:30 PM, including three types of beer, two types of sake, red and white wine, and various other beverages, are such a generous perk – very few hotels offer such a luxurious amenity! I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in Kyoto.

This was our third stay at Agora Hotel Shijo Kyoto, and once again, it did not disappoint. The location is absolutely perfect—right in the heart of the city, making it easy to explore Kyoto’s highlights. Our room was spacious enough to comfortably fit two large suitcases, with plenty of space left to move around freely. The amenities provided were more than sufficient for a comfortable stay. We also appreciated the refreshing welcome drinks upon arrival, which was a nice touch after a long day of travel. Overall, a consistently great experience and we look forward to staying here again.

Excellent hotel with a fantastic location. The public transport links nearby are great; within a 5-minute walk, you can find subway, private railway, and bus stations. There's also a small and a large supermarket right next door downstairs, plus a convenience store across the street. A really good choice!

I stayed here last year when I visited Kyoto and was very satisfied, so I chose this place again for my trip this year. It's very close to all the attractions and not far from Kyoto Station. The transportation around here is super convenient, with direct trains to Arashiyama and Osaka. There are also tons of buses right outside the door that go to various sights. The price is more affordable than hotels near Kyoto Station, and the rooms are larger than typical hotels with excellent facilities. I absolutely love it! If I get another chance to visit Kyoto, I'll definitely choose to stay here again.

RReneehuangHighly Recommended Stay in Kyoto
I would like to strongly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Kyoto. The staff demonstrate exceptional professionalism and hospitality.
In particular, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Miss Yuki, who assisted us with our check-in and kindly introduced many wonderful sightseeing spots and activities in Kyoto, as well as to Miss Tsai, a ********* staff member who supported us during check-out with great warmth and care. Their thoughtful service truly reflects the welcoming spirit of Kyoto and the hotel’s commitment to excellence.
I am genuinely impressed by the quality of the team members who bring guests happiness and satisfaction through their dedication. They truly deserve recognition and applause for their outstanding service.
Our two-night stay was far too short, and we are already looking forward to returning in the near future.
Llucky333This was the second hotel on our Japan trip, and it was excellent!
The hotel is located directly across from Kyoto Station's Hachijo Exit. Since we had a JR Pass, staying near the station made getting around much easier.
**Facilities:** It's a self-check-in hotel. We paid the accommodation tax first. Next to the self-service machine, there were toiletries that you could take as needed. Although the room was small, it had everything you could want: a refrigerator, humidifier, TV, bathtub, and smart toilet. The room heating was strong, but you could adjust the temperature if it felt too stuffy.
**Cleanliness:** It was clean. We stayed for three nights and didn't request housekeeping. They provided pajamas, and they were really nice! It's a shame that there's a shipping fee if you buy them from the official website. It would be great if the hotel front desk sold new ones.
**Environment:** There's a 7-Eleven on the ground floor of the hotel. Guests can enter directly from the side of the lobby, and when returning, you can swipe your room card at the 7-Eleven to enter the lobby. This is great in cold weather as you don't need to go outside to visit the convenience store for food. The surrounding area has many shopping options, including Don Quijote, Aeon Mall, drugstores, and various eateries. There's even more inside the station! Isetan, Porta, Takashimaya. If you exit towards the Kyoto Theater, you can see Kyoto Tower. There's also a sightseeing bus to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and you can just use your Suica card. You can even walk to Yodobashi Camera.
**Service:** The hotel staff were respectful and polite to guests. You can store your luggage after checking out. Our luggage was sent from our previous hotel, but if you want to send luggage to your next hotel, you have to arrange the courier yourself.
It's very convenient to take the Shinkansen from Kyoto Station to Tokyo!
This hotel is highly recommended, and I would definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit to Kyoto!
GGuest UserI've stayed at a few Keihan Group hotels, and they've all been great, but this Kyoto Station South hotel is particularly excellent. The Chinese-speaking front desk staff provided fantastic service during check-in, making me feel truly at home. I also got lucky this time; I arrived at 12 PM and was able to check in early. The daily breakfast is also incredible value for money; 1980 yen on its own isn't expensive at all, and it's an absolute steal when bundled with the room. The 11 AM check-out time is very reasonable, and the luggage storage facilities are excellent, making you feel very secure. However, the self-service lockers fill up quickly, so you often have to leave your bags with the staff. All the amenities are thoughtful and convenient. The only minor drawback is that the expensive hairdryer is too large, taking up space and being awkward to use in the small bathroom. In the afternoons, you can also enjoy complimentary coffee and drinks at the restaurant. The location is unbeatable; it's right across the street from Hachijo Exit, making shopping, dining, and public transport incredibly convenient. The bus to Kansai Airport is also nearby, which is much more comfortable than taking the train. I will definitely stay here again next time I visit Kyoto.
IiamnotdelicateThe basic room type isn't in the main building; you have to walk up to the main building each time to have breakfast or soak in the onsen (hot spring). And it's not a real onsen; my friend's superior room was the real onsen. We were given a small room at the back of the hotel, but thankfully there weren't too many graves.
When I asked the staff at the entrance to take photos for me, they were very reluctant and had a sour face. At night, on my way back to my room from my friend's, the receptionist on duty in the lobby was also very rude. Overall, I was dissatisfied with the service.
The facilities are excellent, very new, and the hotel is quite small, but that's typical for Japanese hotels. The decor is also very nice; the aesthetics are on point.
There are at least three cemeteries and a bunch of shrines nearby; bring some amulets if you like.
Jjiadong100We booked a triple tatami room. As is typical for hotels in Japan, the rooms are quite compact, but we could conveniently store our luggage in the entryway. The bathroom was also small but absolutely spotless. The Kamo River is just a stone's throw away. A big plus is that the front desk staff speaks Chinese, making communication effortless. There's a coin-operated laundry facility on the first floor. Takashimaya department store is also within a short walk. If you go before its 8 PM closing, you can snag some great discounted food items from the B1 supermarket – excellent value!
XXingfudeyanyanI was extremely satisfied with my stay this time. The room was prepared exactly as I requested, which I really appreciated. My room included executive lounge access, offering snacks, drinks, coffee, tea, and alcohol – a great place to sit and relax. The room facilities were meticulously maintained, and all appliances were quiet. My only minor complaint was the hairdryer, which was a bit old-fashioned and took a long time to dry my hair. The hotel staff, including the front desk and shuttle service, were exceptionally professional, very considerate, and provided excellent, personalized service. The shuttle bus stop at Kyoto Station is located behind the station, near the Hachijo East Exit, in the area where taxis and buses pick up passengers. It runs conveniently from 8 AM to 8:30 PM. You can see the exact location in my last two photos.
GGuest UserTo start with the positives, the hotel was well located and easily accessible using the metro from Kyoto station. The room was a decent enough size and the staff were friendly and helpful.
One major issue we encountered during our stay was the level of humidity in the room. The extractor fan didn't seem to be doing anything to impact moisture in the room, particularly after a warm shower. There was some treated glass above the sink and often this was the only area without moisture well over half an hour after having a shower. (Photos attached) This also meant that towels weren't drying correctly and created an unpleasant environment and ultimately odour in the room. The humidity was so high that the windows were dripping with water consistently and the window sill was actually wet. Additionally the absence of a full wardrobe (just a rail with hangers on) also created challenges when staying for longer than a couple of days and this combined with the humidity made the washing machine almost obsolete.
GGuest UserIt is a comfortable and practical stay in Kyoto. It is two bus stops from the main station, making access simple and convenient. The staff are helpful and welcoming, always ready to assist with directions or requests. Rooms are small but clean and well maintained. Room service is prompt and reliable. The spa is an added plus, offering a relaxing way to unwind after sightseeing.
On the downside, the hotel is not within short walking distance of a subway station, which can make transit less convenient. The immediate area has limited restaurant options, especially late at night. Rooms may feel tight for guests with large luggage.
AAnonymous UserThe biggest drawback was the size of the room for the price we paid. We could not even open our suitcases on the floor. There is no water in your room, you have to go downstairs to have a drink of water.
Do not have breakfast there, it's too expensive (if you cannot eat everything) . There is a supermarket (LIFE) a few meters away with a very nice bakery.
The hotel do however have all the toiletries available next to reception counter. Also coffee in the mornings from 6.30am with water and juice. A sauna and a hot pool, but you have to be in your *************. Not suitable for everyone.
I enjoyed our bathroom the most, as the shower was amazing.
JJulianvaThe location is very good near Kyoto Station. The hotel is small but modern and clean.
They made me wait two hours to check in, but that's the rules; I already knew beforehand. They also allowed me to leave my bags while I went to lunch and waited to enter.
The room is small, but like all in Japan, it's a standard room that meets everything you need for a good stay. It's clean, modern, and tidy. For one person, that's fine; for two people with large suitcases, the space is very tight.
For the price, location, and facilities, the hotel is highly recommended.
