Village Hotel Bugis Review: My Honest Experience in Singapore

If you’re looking for a quick staycation or just a change of pace, Village Hotel Bugis by Far East Hospitality might surprise you. I stayed here for a short break, just a few days to chill, eat well, and explore Kampong Glam. Here’s what it was like staying there, and whether I’d actually recommend it.

Why I Chose Village Hotel Bugis?

This was a short solo getaway. I just wanted a change of scenery, good food, and a few slow mornings with coffee and no alarms. 

Village Hotel Bugis caught my eye mainly because of its location. It’s right in the heart of Kampong Glam, near Arab Street, Haji Lane, and just a few minutes from Bugis MRT. It's central without paying Marina Bay prices. 

I liked the idea of being surrounded by colourful shophouses, local eats, and a strong cultural vibe. The room rates were pretty decent too, so I thought, why not give it a shot?

First Impressions & Check-In at Village Hotel Bugis

Walking up to Village Hotel Bugis, the entrance felt bright and welcoming, with a simple but modern design. At the front desk, a friendly staff member greeted me quickly with a warm smile. The check-in process was smooth and efficient. No long waits or paperwork fuss.

The lobby was compact but neat. After grabbing my room key, I took the elevator up and noticed the hallways were clean and quietly lit.

My room felt cosy but not cramped, with a big window letting in plenty of natural light. Overall, my first impression was good. I was ready to settle in and explore the neighbourhood.

One of the best things about Village Hotel Bugis is its location. It sits right next to Kampong Glam, one of Singapore’s most colourful and culturally rich neighbourhoods.

How to Get There?

The MRT is the most budget-friendly option. It’s about 45 minutes on the East-West Line, with a transfer to the Downtown Line at Bugis. The hotel is just a 5-minute walk from Bugis MRT Exit B, so it was easy to find.

Near the Hotel

From the hotel, I could easily walk to Arab Street, Haji Lane, and the beautiful Sultan Mosque, all within 5–10 minutes. There’s no shortage of food either. From local Muslim dishes to trendy cafes and Middle Eastern grills, everything’s close by.

The Room: Cosy, Clean & Practical

I booked a Superior Room for my stay, which felt just right for a solo traveller. The room was cosy and clean. It's 32㎡ and has enough space to move around comfortably. The bed was soft and supportive.

The layout was straightforward. The room felt cosy with warm wood tones on the furniture that made it feel more welcoming than clinical. I had a city view that included some colourful shophouses nearby. Overall, the room had everything I needed. No frills, but practical and comfortable enough for a short city break.

The bathroom was modern and well-kept, with good water pressure and basic toiletries provided - toiletries, a hairdryer, and even bathrobes. They also provide an ironing service, which was a nice surprise for a mid-range hotel.

I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the room was. Even though the hotel is near busy streets, I hardly heard any noise from outside or from the hallway. It felt private and restful, which really helped me unwind.

If you have lots of luggage or want extra space, you might want to consider upgrading. But for a short city stay, it worked perfectly. I booked this room through Trip.com, and the process was smooth and clear, which made the whole experience stress-free.

Just a short walk away, I loved visiting Zam Zam, famous for its murtabak and biryani. It’s a must-try for anyone craving hearty, affordable Indian-Muslim food. Another gem is Hjh Maimunah, where traditional Malay dishes are served buffet-style. If you’re into trendy spots, Haji Lane is full of hipster cafes and dessert bars.

The hotel has a small outdoor pool that looked clean and inviting, though I didn’t get a chance to swim during my stay.

For those on a work trip, the hotel has meeting rooms and multi-function room that can be booked in advance. The setup looked professional and well-maintained.

Family-Friendly Amenities

The hotel is quite kid-friendly, with thoughtful extras like children’s meals available at the restaurant and even kids’ toothbrushes provided in the room on request. It’s a small detail, but helpful if you're travelling with little ones.

There’s also a self-service laundry room in the hotel, which is super handy if you’re staying more than a couple of days.

The staff at Village Hotel Bugis were friendly and approachable throughout my stay. Their English was clear and easy to understand, which made communication simple. They also provide Malay and Mandarin services.

Whenever I requested extra towels or toiletries, the response was quick and hassle-free. Housekeeping did a good job too. My room was always tidy, and they paid attention to little details and kept everything neat.

My friend and I had a great time staying at Village Hotel Bugis. We wanted to soak in the Ramadan vibe and there’s no better way to do it than staying in this hotel. Excellent location, accessible to many amenities and places of interest. We got an executive room so it has a nice view of the shophouses, the iconic Sultan Mosque and the skyscrapers buildings at the background. We appreciate that the room was squeaky clean and most importantly, bed was super comfy. Sure to return, as this wasn’t our first stay

Staying at very most right location for easy halal food of restaurant zam zam , victory and Arab street by just a walking . Very close to famous mosque , 7 eleven and a few meter to hjh maimunah restaurant for best breakfast.Recomended for Muslim traveller

Right outside the hotel is the vibrant Kampong Glam district. I loved wandering the streets around the Sultan Mosque. The architecture is stunning and the area is full of colourful shops and cafés. It’s a great spot for both culture and photos.

🛍️Arab Street & Haji Lane 

A short stroll from the hotel, these streets are perfect for boutique shopping and finding unique souvenirs. I enjoyed popping into small stores selling textiles, handmade goods, and quirky fashion. The hipster cafes on Haji Lane made for a chill afternoon coffee break.

🛒Bugis Street Market

If you love shopping for bargains and souvenirs, Bugis Street Market is just around the corner. It’s packed with stalls selling everything from fashion to snacks. I found it lively and fun, especially in the evenings when the market lights come on.

🌳Fort Canning Park 

About a 15-minute walk away, Fort Canning Park is perfect for a peaceful break from the city buzz. I enjoyed strolling through its shaded paths and checking out the historical landmarks scattered around the park.

Would I Stay Again?

For the price I paid, I felt the value was spot on. The hotel offers a comfortable, no-fuss stay in a fantastic location, which is perfect for anyone wanting to explore Singapore’s cultural heart.

I think this place suits families, solo travellers, and first-time visitors who want easy access to food, shopping, and sights without breaking the bank.

Would I recommend it? Yes, especially if you’re after a practical, well-located base with friendly service. It’s not luxury, but it gets the job done.
