The European Entry/Exit System (EES) is a digital border management system that used by Norway and other participating Schengen countries where it replaces manual passport stamping for eligible non-EU travellers that entering or leaving Schengen area for short stays.

How does EES work?

When you enter Schengen area for the first time under the system, border immigration officials will register your travel document details and biometric information, including a facial image and fingerprints.

On the subsequent visits, your identity can be verified using the information that are already recorded.

In addition, the system also records when and where you enter and leave the Schengen area.

Do Singaporeans need to register for EES before travelling?

No, eligible travellers do not generally need to complete a separate EES application before departure but the registration takes place at the border, where officers collect or verify the required information.

Allow extra time for immigration checks, generally during busy travel periods.

Furthermore, children and travellers may be subject to specific registration exemptions or procedures.

Is ETIAS Required to Enter Norway?

Get to know ETIAS, the new European entry registration system.

ETIAS stands for the European Travel Information and Authorisation System. It is a separate travel authorisation programme for visa-exempt travellers visiting participating European countries, including Norway.

ETIAS is different from EES: EES registration takes place at the border, while ETIAS is intended to be obtained before travel.

According to the latest official information available from Visit Norway, ETIAS is not yet in operation, and applications are not currently being accepted. Its launch has been expected in the last quarter of 2026, but travellers should check for an official start-date announcement before departure.

If ETIAS becomes operational before your trip, eligible Singapore passport holders may need to obtain authorisation before travelling to Norway. Do not pay unofficial websites claiming to offer early ETIAS registration.
