Guest UserThis is my second time staying at this hotel. The first time was two years ago when I visited Shanghai with my family, and the experience was excellent; the front desk service was very attentive. The best part is the amazing location, making it convenient to go anywhere. That's why I booked this hotel again for my current trip back to Shanghai. I've even recommended it to my British friends who are coming to Shanghai. It's really great!

fionho78The hotel's location is truly exceptional, nestled by the Suzhou Creek on the North Bund, right next to the historic Waibaidu Bridge. It offers panoramic views of Lujiazui and the iconic Bund skyline. The hotel's understated Baroque luxury seamlessly blends with the neoclassical style of the Bund, exuding sophisticated elegance.
The hotel lobby is a grand affair, featuring a massive crystal chandelier, soaring ceilings, and a majestic marble staircase. Adorned with captivating artworks and sculptures, it feels like an immersive art space – a perfect blend of vintage charm and modern sophistication. Every corner speaks of prestige and refinement. Our room was incredibly comfortable and spacious, with exquisite design and meticulous attention to detail. Both the room's size and amenities were simply perfect.
Breakfast is served on the second floor in the Western restaurant, which boasts expansive views. Every table offers a glimpse of the Suzhou Creek and the Bund, making it wonderfully comfortable and relaxing to enjoy breakfast by the window while watching the river.
The only minor drawbacks were the slightly large gap under the shower door, which could lead to water spilling out if the showerhead was pointed incorrectly. Also, the buffet selection at breakfast wasn't particularly extensive, and there were limited bread options. However, the à la carte menu was quite good. Overall, our stay was very satisfying.

The Shanghai Yangtze Hotel is a hotel I wholeheartedly recommend. I had already fallen in love with this hotel from pictures, with its amazing Republic of China-era Shanghai ambiance. So, there was no question in my mind about staying here this time. The hotel's transportation is incredibly convenient; it's super easy to get around. The subway station is practically at the doorstep, about 20 meters away – almost zero distance! The bedding was of superior quality, ensuring an excellent night's sleep. The bathroom was spacious, with a well-arranged layout for the wash basin, vanity, bathtub, shower, and toilet. It was fully equipped, even featuring a smart toilet. The walk-in closet was amply sized, and I loved that the light didn't harshy glare on when you opened the door; it automatically turned off after a minute, a truly thoughtful design. Breakfast was extensive, a great blend of Chinese and Western options, and tasted delicious. All the hotel staff were polite and attentive, making for a very comfortable experience. I will definitely choose the Shanghai Yangtze Hotel again next time.

Had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The location is excellent, with easy access to transportation. While the room facilities aren't the newest, the bedding was comfortable, making for a very relaxing stay. The front desk staff were quite friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home. Overall, the hotel's environment and cleanliness are far superior to express hotels in the same price range. Highly recommend.

fanta2015For my last night in Shanghai, I chose the YMCA Hotel.
1. **Location is amazing!** It's just a 2-minute walk from the exit of Dashijie Metro Station. Right next door is Xian De Lai, a renowned Chinese time-honored brand restaurant, and every dish there is delicious.
2. **The hotel itself is a historic building** with deep roots. The relief carvings on the stairs, along with the emerald green ceilings and carpets, give it a unique and distinctive feel.
3. **The room facilities are comprehensive.** It features a wet/dry separation bathroom, a smart toilet as standard, and even a safe. The hand soap on the vanity smelled so good, I actually looked it up because I want to buy it! 😀
4. **Three bonus details:** There were alcohol wipes next to the toilet, a clever foldable metal clothes rack on the wall, and the disposable slippers were of really good quality.

AXuaner~While the location of Banyan Tree Shanghai on the Bund is undeniably perfect, offering stunning views of both sides of the Huangpu River and Lujiazui from the floor-to-ceiling windows, and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful, the service experience for a luxury hotel was quite disappointing. It took four calls to the front desk to get through at night, and the promised cake and welcome fruits only arrived right before bedtime. The aromatherapy for the turn-down service, which I specifically requested, was also missed. Furthermore, some of the facilities are starting to show their age. Overall, despite the beautiful hardware and views, the lack of attentive service and the aging facilities severely detracted from the stay, making it poor value for money.

Anonymous UserThe hotel was the perfect finish to our three-week China holiday. With a huge outdoor pool and a large indoor pool, it was ideal for spending the last two days relaxing with the kids.
On weekends there's a great Chinese buffet where Europeans will also find plenty of tasty options.
The staff were extremely helpful. We had a room with a huge bed plus an extra bed, and one of the kids slept in our bed with us — that worked well too.
The only small downside: the pool could easily have held another half metre of water.

Guest UserThe environment here is excellent, and the decor is beautiful. Even though it's an older hotel, it's very well-maintained and looks quite new. The location is also fantastic, very close to The Bund, and there's a large shopping mall nearby. The rooms look brand new and have a very beautiful design.
The service is top-notch. After booking, they called to confirm our arrival time. We arrived at 12 PM, and our room was already clean and ready for early check-in. The hotel is very well-managed, and the staff are incredibly attentive. They even gave us a free upgrade to an Oriental Pearl View King Room for our second night.
For food, the room had a complimentary minibar, and the hotel gifted us a lovely small cake and red wine—it was beautifully presented! Breakfast offered additional à la carte options, and my favorite was the pan-fried dumplings (guotie). We went to breakfast at 9:45 AM, and even when some dishes ran out, they were immediately replenished, which was really impressive!
I would definitely come back again!

This appears to be an older hotel though maintenance was done to keep things running and clean. It is in a good location in the city for our planned activities. There was ease of access and I liked that the facility had laundry self service available on site 24 hours per day. The laundry access was the most important because I traveled light and I went in August when it was the hottest and most humid time in Shanghai. Staff were professional and greeter at the door helped with opening and closing car doors and getting luggage out of car. Hotel lobby was well lit and spacious and comfortable. My parents with my sisters got a room with a broken bathroom door and non-working phone. Once staff were informed, they were quick to move them to a different room. Unfortunately I did not have enough time to fully explore the hotel and utilize the gym and swimming pool.
The hotel room I had was comfortable with everything working. It was well lit and the AC system functioned very well.
The only thing I did not like was the smoke smell in the hallways.
Smoking cigarettes is a huge problem in China and of course the hotel has no control over this. However they can implement better air filtration and cleaning systems as many travelers may be asthmatic or have strong allergic sensitivity to the smoke particles.
