"We were at a big conference at the Expo Center; the 5 star hotels at he site were too expensive, so we went to Sultan PALACE Hotel near the airport (note there is a different hotel called Sultan). A kind of Disney-esque architecture for a new hotel. A modest breakfast is included. Pro: Very kind staff, especially the manager and the tall slender young man. Helpful and friendly, made us feel truly welcome. Con: Location a food desert. Restaurant there breakfast only, and nothing to walk to (I tried). So they have menus from a few local places and will order for you and present on their dishes when the food comes in. Otherwise you need to taxi to go anywhere else."

"A good place to stay is all you needed especially if coming from Tashkent (bus ride took 5.5hrs to Samarkand) - and this hotel made it up for the long day.  The area is a bit of a walk to the attractions - but with this summer I don’t mind spending a few Uzbek SOMs for Yandex (w/c is cheap by the way). Hotel was new, spacious and clean. There’s AC to beat the heat in the city. And there’s even breakfast included at that price point and they don’t ask you to pay extra if you already consumed 2 bottled water a day. Special shoutout to their new staff, Ulugbek! He showed me what Uzbek hospitality means. Very helpful guy. And to their boss for returning the extra money I paid and for not forcing me to change room when there was a mixed up w/ the room assignments - I’m supposed to get the standard but, I was given the next tier by mistake. "The hotel is 5, but there are some downsides. 1. They ask for 10 points. 2. There are ants in the bathroom. 3. We asked about the pool the day before and they said everything would be there. On the day we checked in and the next day, the promise was not kept. There is no pool and no spa in this hotel. This is a scam. On the next street in the basement there is some kind of eatery (it is obvious that there is a contract with this sauna), which has been working at full capacity for 3 days. At the same time, we did not see anyone in the hotel except us, neither at breakfast, nor anywhere in the corridor. Not officially registered. There was a reservation on Booking, but the hotel deleted it, saying that we did not check in. In fact, we did. I am attaching a photo. Upon check-in, they gave out toiletries once - they do not add more. In the evening, a compliment: 2 tangerines and half an apple. They promised a surprise upon check-out and a free transfer. There was no surprise. Transfer is organized (100 rubles ours, at a price of 141 dollars for accommodation). Plus they upgraded the room, bragged that there is YouTube and Netflix. When we started to turn on Netflix, it turns out that it is on TV, but you have to buy a subscription yourself. For breakfast, you can order an omelet. There are sausages and scrambled eggs. An empty pancake, a pancake with cottage cheese and a pancake with meat. There is a coffee machine. One cup is allowed. There are fruits (tangerines, apples, pears, pomegranate), jam and some small things. If there are no strong claims, then good. If they promise you something, they will not fulfill it."

Rayyan Hotel Samarkand

"The hotel is right across from the train station, just a five-minute walk away. The room was fairly spacious, though the bathroom could be a bit larger. The breakfast had a good selection and tasted quite good."

"This hotel is a bit outside the city's main tourist attractions, but it's conveniently located right next to the train station, which is perfect for those arriving or departing by rail. Getting to the city center is easy with the Yandex Go app, and there are also trams available directly from the station square. For breakfast, there's a dining hall accessible from the inner courtyard, serving from 7 AM."

Hotel Grand Samarkand Superior - A

"I stayed here with my tour group. Comfortable room opening onto a huge courtyard. The walls between rooms were very thin so I could hear my neighbours coughing all night. Excellent shower. Nice buffet breakfast."
