"The Laocheng'en Courtyard Homestay is located within Datong Ancient City and is accessible by car. Parking is easy to find within the alleyways, especially during the off-season. The homestay features a cozy courtyard and living room, and the rooms are tidy. We booked a twin room, which wasn't huge, but the bathroom was very spacious. The main draw for us was the excellent wet/dry separation in the bathroom. There's no elevator, though. The breakfast was well-prepared and satisfying. The staff were all very friendly; on our first day, they even provided tricycles for a spin around the ancient city! Overall, it was a great stay."

"If I were to rate the room alone, this guesthouse exceeded my expectations. Even though I booked a special offer room in the basement, there were absolutely no issues with ventilation or natural light. On the contrary, on a warm winter day, bathed in the soft glow of the lights, it felt like my own cozy little haven. If I visit again, I'd still choose this place. (The lady at the front desk was beautiful and kind-hearted, always willing to help and answered every question with a smile, which truly warmed my heart.) Now for the downsides: breakfast was served about a 10-minute walk from the guesthouse, which isn't a huge deal. However, the breakfast service was a world apart from the guesthouse's excellent service. The staff didn't even lift their heads when we entered or left, completely engrossed in their TV show. And they didn't provide Wi-Fi, which I consider a very basic service, right? Also, could you please avoid serving rotten fruit to guests? The breakfast quality was more about presentation than substance; it looked good for photos, but the taste left much to be desired."

"Great location, not far from the old city, making it super convenient for dining and shopping. The staff were very enthusiastic, and the room was well-equipped, even with a bathtub. I didn't have time to use the complimentary bath voucher, but I'll definitely come back if I get the chance."

"A very pleasant stay at the Pipa Old Inn. A very historical building, though the place is equipped with all necessary modern amenities save for an elevator. Fortunately the staff very helpful assisted us with lugging up our heavy luggage to our room on the 3rd floor. Very beautifully decorated and strategically located in the heart of Datong Ancient City. Very pleasant and helpful staff who helped us plan and arrange our trips around Datong though sadly, they weren't very proficient in English (but that's common in China). Free breakfast was included in our stay and there was a decent spread though the menu didn't change much over our stay there save for one or two vegetable dishes being rotated. Overall definitely worth a return trip and stay in Datong Ancient City."

Any questions I had were answered promptly, which made me feel very much at ease. This stay completely exceeded my expectations. It's not just a place to rest your feet, but a healing space where one can slow down and enjoy a moment of tranquility. I highly recommend it to all book lovers, coffee enthusiasts, and friends who appreciate aesthetics! The next time I visit this city, this will definitely be my top choice."

"The hotel was gorgeous, very clean and the location was great. The hosts running the hotel were extremely friendly, helping us out with anything we needed. Breakfast was made fresh and really delicious. They even offered us coffee which was clearly beyond what they usually offer but we really appreciated it. They also offered to bring us to the train station saving us a cab ride. I would definitely recommend staying here! You won't regret staying at this beautiful property with these very welcoming people."

The facilities are top-notch, and the service was beyond satisfactory. The breakfast, in particular, was very extensive; it's the first time I've ever had steak for breakfast at a hotel! The check-in and check-out processes were simple and convenient, and they even upgraded my room proactively. I'll definitely choose this hotel first for my next business trip to Datong!"

Western choices include bread, ham, fried eggs, and coffee, all of which are of excellent quality. They also offer freshly squeezed juices that are crisp and nutritious. Whether you prefer Chinese or Western breakfast, you'll find something you love here to kickstart an energetic day. While the hotel's pool isn't huge, the water is crystal clear, and you can often see staff regularly testing and maintaining it. The area around the pool is also very clean and tidy, equipped with comfortable lounge chairs where you can relax after a swim. A refreshing dip here is perfect for both exercise and relaxation. Finally, I must commend the hotel's thoughtful attention to detail – they provide L'Occitane toiletries. L'Occitane's bath products are renowned for their high quality, fresh and pleasant scent, and rich lather. After using them, skin and hair feel clean and comfortable, which truly adds a luxurious touch to the stay. Overall, Wyndham Grand Shanxi Datong excels in both its facilities and service quality. The next time I visit Datong, I will definitely choose to stay here again, and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Datong for leisure or business!"
