"A rather mediocre experience. I've been a Ctrip member for 15 years and rarely leave bad reviews, so I'll give this a passing grade of 3.0. The main reasons for the average experience were: 1. My baby had a fever in the middle of the night and couldn't get up the next day. I wanted to take some breakfast back to the room, but they wouldn't allow it, and the staff's attitude was quite stiff. At over 1700 RMB for two nights for three adults and one child, the price wasn't cheap. Since the hotel couldn't be understanding towards me, I can't be understanding towards them in my rating. 2. There must be floor heating or central air conditioning, because the room was extremely dry, even drier than indoors in Beijing during the heating season."

"The staff were so so friendly and super nice!!! Told them it was our honeymoon and there was a handwritten note with fruits and snacks waiting for us on the table. They didn't have to, but they did ☺️ when we left, we were rushing for the train and didn't have time to eat breakfast. The staff were so concerned we were skipping breakfast she quickly packed some food for us to go and even ran after us to pass us cutlery because she forgot to pack some. Would recommend staying here 10/10!"

"Highly recommended! A rated five-star hotel truly lives up to its name. We arrived quite early and there wasn't a suitable room available, so they immediately upgraded us to a larger room (which was perfectly spacious). All our daily needs were met, and they even offered pear soup at night because Datong's weather is so dry, showing great respect for every guest. The breakfast buffet was absolutely fine in terms of quality (there's a photo of the breakfast knife-cut noodle chef). I also particularly recommend the hotel's Chinese restaurant (there's a photo of us taking food to go for our high-speed train). On our last day, we were rushing from Datong back to Beijing to catch our high-speed train. We misjudged our time at Yingxian Wooden Pagoda and Hanging Temple, but still wanted to enjoy Datong cuisine on the train. We went to the hotel's Chinese restaurant, and the lady who greeted us was incredibly warm and efficient. The chefs were also super impressive, preparing our desired dishes for takeout in just 20 minutes. We made it to the train just in time and enjoyed a fantastic meal on board. I just had to leave a review – our Datong trip was perfect! (There are photos of cats at various attractions)."

"I chose Nan She for both of my trips to Datong, spaced about twenty days apart. The first time was by chance, but the second was a deliberate choice, both reflecting my high appreciation for every aspect of Nan She. It's located right beneath the North City Wall of the ancient city, close to Daiwang Mansion and Kuixing Tower. Its proximity to the main road makes getting around very convenient. The entrance to the North City Wall is just a few minutes' walk away, offering a superb spot to watch the sunset over the ancient city. The breakfast at the guesthouse is absolutely delicious. The rooms are spotless, and the bedding is clean; every detail is perfectly executed. The overall service is beyond words – attentive, warm, and thoughtful. Choosing the right accommodation is a crucial part of enhancing the travel experience, and both of my stays here provided an excellent one. Datong is a city you'll want to revisit; the more you get to know it, the more you'll love it. The blend of history and modernity, delicious food, and beautiful scenery offers endless appeal. "Stepping into Datong Ancient City in the afternoon, the first pleasant surprise was stumbling upon Renyi Inn. The inn's antique courtyard, adorned with carved beams and painted rafters, and warm red lanterns, instantly brought a sense of calm. The family who runs the inn is incredibly humble and kind, their conversations warm and thoughtful, making you feel right at home. What's even more admirable is their exceptional care for animals; the inn is like a mini-zoo. They treat every little creature with gentleness and patience, which in turn fills the entire courtyard with life and spirit. Upon entering, a majestic grey parrot, both poised and lively, greeted me from the front desk – I'd never seen such a large pet parrot before! Two smaller parrots chirped happily nearby, completely unafraid of strangers, lively and adorable. Outside my room was a small courtyard with two tea tables. After a 'special forces'-style day of temple hopping, when I was tired to the point of tears, sitting there enjoying a cup of tea was incredibly relaxing. In the adjacent fish pond, a dozen or so vibrant koi, each weighing at least two to three pounds, swam gracefully, their bodies stretching elegantly. Next to the pond, a large and a small tortoise slowly ambled, quiet and therapeutic. In a corner cage, a tiny grey squirrel darted around, agile and playful. As dusk fell, watching the lights reflect on the pond and listening to the soft sounds of the small animals, the weariness of travel seemed to melt away in this gentle atmosphere, leaving my heart filled with peace and healing. I thought this wonderful experience was complete, but to my surprise, a new delight awaited me the next morning – two peacocks, 'Wenqing' (blue and white) and 'Xiaofeng' (emerald green), strolled leisurely in the courtyard with their magnificent tails fanned out – yes, they even have names! The eye-spots on their tail feathers shimmered, as if they were wearing the entire starry sky, beautiful like something straight out of an ancient painting. For a moment, I couldn't tell if I was in an inn or a secret wonderland. Renyi Inn is far more than just a place to stay; it's a hidden gem within the ancient city. The harmonious coexistence of people and animals creates a warm and healing atmosphere, adding countless gentle and delightful moments to this journey."

"The hotel lobby is grand, perhaps reflecting the local aesthetic with its minority architectural style – tall and impressive. The hotel isn't in the ancient city, so we had to take a taxi there every day, which took about 10-15 minutes. The service was excellent; they delivered a fruit plate daily, which was a very thoughtful touch. Although the hotel has been around for many years, the decor doesn't feel dated. The value for money here is outstanding. Aside from its distance from the ancient city, it completely exceeded expectations for the price. I would definitely choose Yungang Jianguo again when I next visit Datong."

"I was literally in tears, it was my first time sleeping with underfloor heating. I even turned on my electric blanket at home afterwards, but it's just not the same. No static electricity, and it's a vibrant, living kind of warmth, unlike the dry, lifeless heat of an electric blanket. The hotel itself is stunning, with French-style ceilings that took my breath away – seriously, trust a coal boss's taste! The owner even upgraded me for free to a room with a big window. It faced a school, though, and seeing them having classes late at night made me nostalgic for my own school days – what a tough life! I ordered some kind of purple clay dish, and the 'guoyourou' (sautéed sliced pork) was absolutely to die for."

However, there were some noticeable drawbacks: the elevator was slow, leading to long waits, and the hotel is quite a distance from the ancient city and Huayan Temple, requiring a car for sightseeing. Additionally, the showerhead in the bathroom had poor water pressure, which needs improvement."

"I made a spontaneous decision to visit Datong and stumbled upon this Holiday Inn. The promotional pictures were exactly what I was looking for, but I was still pleasantly surprised by how perfect my stay turned out to be! I called the front desk, and they prioritized getting my room ready. The young lady at the front desk during check-in was incredibly enthusiastic. She told me all about the hotel's facilities, the gym's location, and even their Chinese restaurant's set menus, which were a great deal and featured delicious Datong specialties with excellent service. The room was incredibly comfortable and spotlessly clean. The overall environment and facilities are top-notch. The hotel has only been open for a year, so the rooms are all smart-enabled, featuring smart toilets, smart curtains, and a massive TV. The entire experience felt very welcoming. The hotel's overall ambiance is fantastic; the lobby bar is particularly unique, and the drinks and coffee are delicious and expertly prepared. The general environment is beautiful, and I loved the pleasant fragrance on the first, second, and fifth floors. I will definitely be staying here again next time!"
