GGuest UserThe most surprising harvest of this trip to Datong was to choose this homestay! As soon as I got out of the high-speed rail station, I saw the boss waiting. The house was on the edge of the ancient city wall. It took only 15 minutes to walk to Huayan Temple. After visiting the night market at night, I came back slowly. I could see the lights on the city wall when I looked up. The atmosphere was directly full. The room was cleaner than my own home, and the bathroom supplies were actually the one I usually couldn't bear to buy. Originally, I was worried that the house in the ancient city was not soundproofed, but I slept very heavily at night. When I went downstairs in the morning, the boss had already cooked millet porridge, and drank two large bowls of salty and crispy radishes, which was better than any big meal eaten at the attraction. Next time I come to Datong, I will definitely stay here. If I didn’t catch the high-speed rail, I would like to spend half an hour with the boss. It’s not the kind of cold commercial homestay. It feels like borrowing an old friend’s house in Datong. Even the fatigue of the journey has been scattered. Most of it! Amway must give all friends who want to come to Datong to play, and you will know how comfortable it is once you have lived.

DDafeieThe room was great, and the underfloor heating kept it very warm. The courtyard (siheyuan) is absolutely beautiful. The underground parking was also very convenient. The service was excellent. I didn't use my car for two days, so leaving wasn't the smoothest. I had to rush to Yungang Grottoes and left before 7 AM, getting a bit delayed at the entrance. The parking fee was 100 RMB (even though there was a free parking voucher, it didn't link successfully), but the owner paid it for me. This is a very responsible establishment, and both the owner and the housekeeper are wonderful. The location is super convenient, and the breakfast is incredibly delicious. Many thanks!

KKatrin SauthoffMy husband and I are a couple from Germany. We booked two nights there, and our decision was absolutely the right one. From the initial contact (via the WeChat app, which is essential for your entire trip to China) to our departure, everything was perfect. We were picked up from the train station by car and taken to the hotel free of charge. This is especially good for Western tourists who don't speak Chinese. The first problem would have been explaining to the taxi where we wanted to go. The lobby and rooms are very beautiful, stylish, and equipped with the highest technology. Most of the guest rooms face the inner courtyard, so you can sleep very quietly and comfortably. The beds are very large and comfortable. The hotel's location is excellent. It's located on the northern edge of the Ancient City of Datong, just a few minutes' walk from the tourist attractions and the colorful and lively old town. So you can enjoy it without being disturbed by noise. I would especially like to emphasize the friendliness of the staff. Unfortunately, we don't speak Chinese, and the staff didn't speak English, but with the help of modern communication tools (language apps), we understood each other perfectly. Every request was fulfilled. There's even the option to use a washing machine in the basement of the hotel. This is especially fantastic for tourists on longer trips to China, as it allows for easy laundry. If you ever come back to China, we will definitely book this hotel again.

The property have undergone a complete refurbishment. Our accommodation is a family suite featuring a courtyard and a penthouse, providing a dedicated area for children.
Breakfast is served homemade style, offering local noodles or dumplings, or Western options, all prepared by the owner or the team.
Nevertheless, it is necessary to liaise with the team regarding your arrival or departure arrangements, as traffic restrictions occasionally prevent vehicle access directly to the hotel entrance during certain limited hours.

GGuest UserThe location is superb, right within the ancient city. For those driving, parking is available at the Nine Dragon Wall parking lot, just a 100-meter walk away. Despite being in a tourist area, it offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. Guandi Temple is also conveniently located nearby. The service was excellent, and breakfast was quite good too. Both the owner and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. Although the May Day holiday prices were significantly higher than usual, the convenience made it completely worthwhile. Highly recommended!

GGuest UserI was greeted with a fruit platter during check-in, which was a wonderful welcome gesture considering I left my home about 24 hours earlier, traveling non-stop from California to Datong, China. The Inn provides a wonderful experience for the first-time foreign visitor. The interior decor has that Chinese charm consisting of artwork, a book display, an aquarium with an auspicious collection of 8 large fishes (carp, I think), in-room tea set with an on-table electric stove, which would be unique to most Westerners. The glass flooring adds an extraordinary appeal since I have never experienced that in a hotel before, and I have traveled to dozens of countries.
The Inn is well located, a short bus ride to Datong Railway Station (for non-high-speed rail travel)*, and a short taxi ride to Datong South Railway Station (for high-speed rail travel)**. It is just next to Datong City Wall. You can walk along the top of the City Wall at no cost. A 10-20 minute walk takes you to nearly all the attractions within the ancient City Wall. Here you will also find a variety of restaurants serving local food as well as souvenir shops. There is also a small shop that sells sundry items including drinks (beer included) within a 5-minute walk from the Inn. Across from this sundry shop, is a shop that specializes in ancient Chinese clothing (Hanfu dress). They can dress you up, cosmetics included.
The Inn provides directions to Yujian Yun Gang - a popular destination for travelers to Datong. Here you will see ancient Buddhist cave art, including large and tall (several stories tall) sculptures. It takes two bus rides to get there, 1RMB per ride.
My booking choice was for either a guest room on the 1st or 2nd floor but was assigned a wonderful 2nd-floor guest room.
The owners of the Inn were exceptionally friendly. I met both the mother and her daughter. My room was professionally cleaned and provided with drinking bottled water daily.
If I return to Datong in the future, I will certainly book a room at this Inn.
*I took a train from this station to travel south to Xinzhou after checking out.

JJames56It was a pleasant surprise to see such a bright and cheerful room, so close to the train station and a shopping mall and hypermarket. The lady at the reception was very helpful and pleasant. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom has very good shower and drainage. The best we have seen! On top of that, we were allowed to do our laundry for free! Transport was convenient. Lots of buses around and easy to visit the tourist attractions. Highly recommend this hotel!

GGuest UserThe location of the hotel is perfect. It is the right place to stay when visiting the Hanging Temple and Jin Temple. The room and bed are large, especially suitable for bringing children. It is no problem for a family of three to stay in a big bed. The bathroom is separated into dry and wet areas. The breakfast is also very good. Overall, it is very cost-effective.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, checking us in quickly and even upgrading us to the best available room. To our surprise, we were greeted with a thoughtful welcome that included a fresh fruit basket, traditional Chinese soup, and complimentary tea.
The hotel offers an impressive breakfast selection, catering to both local and international tastes. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and the beds are incredibly comfortable—making it easy to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
This was my second time staying at the Great Palace Hotel, and once again, it exceeded expectations. Its location is ideal—right in the heart of the city, close to all major tourist attractions and just a few kilometers from the train station. Special thanks to Manager 崔经理, who was exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Datong.
