GGuest UserI highly recommend this guesthouse for anyone visiting Datong! The owner is incredibly warm and thoughtful. They proactively communicated with me even before I arrived and, upon check-in, immediately provided a meticulously prepared guide covering attractions, transportation, and local food – truly a one-stop solution that saved me so much hassle. The local snacks they recommended were authentic and delicious; following their advice, I never had a bad meal. The guesthouse itself is clean and elegant, with a prime location that makes getting around very convenient. The service is genuine and attentive, making for an absolutely wonderful experience. It was a super heartwarming trip, and I genuinely recommend it to everyone!

GGuest UserI've wanted to stay here for a long time, and this family trip finally made that dream come true. The check-in experience was excellent, and the facilities showed incredible attention to detail. The complimentary toiletries pack even included electric toothbrushes and Gillette razors, and all the snacks provided were from Sam's Club. Breakfast was exceptional – an à la carte style where they'd prepare whatever you ordered. Everything tasted fantastic, and there were plenty of choices. Enjoying delicious pastries in the courtyard under the sun was a truly wonderful experience!
In the evening, friends came over, and we sat on the courtyard sofa, chatted, drank tea, and watched the clouds in the night sky. We even caught a drone show from Dai Wang Mansion, which was truly delightful! We also toured the owner's private museum and wine cellar. It certainly lives up to its reputation as a courtyard built with 200 million yuan; the main gate in the middle is 200 years old. Every detail exudes taste and grandeur!
The service was excellent too. Although there weren't many staff members, they were very responsive. When my shoes got wet in the heavy rain, they even brought a hairdryer to dry them for me – I was truly grateful! In short, the value for money at this price is unbeatable! Five-star recommendation! 👍👍👍👍👍
Overall, a fantastic stay, but I do have a few suggestions to offer:
1. Only the door could be opened for ventilation in the room; the windows didn't open. It would be great if there was a way to allow for cross-ventilation.
2. The hotel doesn't provide parking vouchers. While overnight parking was only 20 yuan, offering vouchers would enhance the guest experience.
3. Perhaps due to concerns about some guests occupying a room with too many people, I was repeatedly asked during check-in how many individuals were staying in our room, which I found a bit off-putting.

PPSOCWe were warmly greeted by friendly staff upon arrival, making us feel welcome right away. The check-in process was quick and smooth, and the team went the extra mile to help us register on their app as we are foreigners, ensuring we could easily access Wi-Fi and contact them if needed.
We had called ahead to request a humidifier and air purifier, and were pleased to find them already prepared in our room when we checked in. The room itself was spacious, impeccably clean, and very comfortable. The shower had excellent water pressure, and the inclusion of an electric toilet with a heated seat was a thoughtful touch, especially during the winter season.
Throughout our stay, every staff member we encountered was genuinely helpful and sincere in their service, always making sure we were well taken care of. We initially planned to stay from 6/12/24 to 8/12/24 but felt so at home that we decided to extend our stay for an additional two days.
A big thank you to the team at Mecure Hotel for their exceptional service and attention to detail. Me and my Husband had agreed this is best hotel in our 17 days China trip. We had a fantastic stay and look forward to returning in the future. Great job!

GGuest UserThe rooms and amenities are very new, clean, and hygienic. Upon check-in, we were even given complimentary fruit and pastries. The daily Pu'er tea looked healthy and tasted great.
Stepping out of the hotel and crossing the street, you'll find the North Gate of the ancient city. While the ancient city is right there, it's a bit of a walk to the main core area. The photo was taken right outside the hotel, so you can get an idea of its location.
The front desk staff were incredibly enthusiastic. When I forgot to take the power-activating key card during checkout, the kind gentleman at the front desk offered to retrieve it himself and proceeded with my checkout immediately. Very thoughtful.
When food delivery arrived, a robot brought it to the door, which was quite convenient.

GGuest UserWe had a very pleasant stay in this hotel. The staff members were very helpful and attentive. Breakfast was also very good! Our room was comfy and spacious, the only problem we had with it was that it felt too hot for us even with the aircon/heating off and right before we left we could feel some bad smell coming from the pipes. We didn't report this as we were leaving but we're sure the hotel would have helped and sorted this for us (they offered changing our room when we said it was too hot for us, for example). The location of the hotel was very useful to explore the ancient city and the hotel helped us book a private car to see the grottoes and hanging temple - great experience!
We'd consider staying here again if/when we visit Dating again. :)

BBarbara85The hotel was well located. The room exactly like it was described online. We reserved two rooms without windows for one day it was cost efficient! Unfortunately I could not reserve directly 4 breakfast online only two (one per room), we have to pay directly at breakfast for the two others one.
We stop at Datong to visited one of UNESCO site and see the all Datong city. We thought more foreigners will visit this beautiful small city. No one speaks English (and that’s ok) but for a 4 stars hotel the front desk lady looks a bit lost with the check in procedure for foreigners (and I work in a 5 stars hotel in beijing so I know the procedure as a French working in China). Also, the isolation is bad, the front desk already inform us upon check in but we did not thought we will heard even the other room bathrooms flush. Thank you for this night your hotel is beautiful

GGuest UserThe location of the hotel is perfect. It is the right place to stay when visiting the Hanging Temple and Jin Temple. The room and bed are large, especially suitable for bringing children. It is no problem for a family of three to stay in a big bed. The bathroom is separated into dry and wet areas. The breakfast is also very good. Overall, it is very cost-effective.

RRichard76ukThis weekend, I had the pleasure of staying at the Great Palace Hotel in Datong, and I must say it was an incredible experience from the moment we arrived. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, checking us in quickly and even upgrading us to the best available room. To our surprise, we were greeted with a thoughtful welcome that included a fresh fruit basket, traditional Chinese soup, and complimentary tea.
The hotel offers an impressive breakfast selection, catering to both local and international tastes. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and the beds are incredibly comfortable—making it easy to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
This was my second time staying at the Great Palace Hotel, and once again, it exceeded expectations. Its location is ideal—right in the heart of the city, close to all major tourist attractions and just a few kilometers from the train station. Special thanks to Manager 崔经理, who was exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Datong.
What truly sets this hotel apart is the attention to detail and the genuine hospitality of the staff. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning guest, the service remains consistently high. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between traditional charm and modern comfort, making it a reliable choice for both leisure and business travelers. CCiyubuzaihegouI specifically came here to write this review – this is, without a doubt, the worst value-for-money hotel I've ever stayed at during my travels in China! I strongly advise against booking it!
Was this hotel built in the 80s? The lobby had exhibition stalls, the room decor was outdated, and the bathroom was cramped and tiny. The moment I walked in, I was hit with a choking cigarette smell (there were matches and an ashtray in the room). The most crucial point is that because it's so old, everything just looks dirty – for example, the headboard cushion, the 'patinaed' stool, the stained toilet seat, and the shower stall (which is supposed to be wet/dry separated) that pools water and splashes everywhere when you shower. Outside the window is the playground of School No. 23, and from 7:30 to 8:00 AM, there's a loud broadcast over the loudspeaker.
And for all this, it cost 200 RMB a night, even on a weekday outside of holidays! 🙂
