GGuest UserMy stay at Boli Designer Homestay in Datong Ancient City completely redefined my expectations for high-end guesthouses, offering an immersive slow-paced experience within the ancient city. The guesthouse is nestled in a tranquil alley on Guangfujiao Street. With its grey brick walls and natural wood doors and windows, stepping inside immediately transports you away from the hustle and bustle of the city outside. The wabi-sabi garden design is particularly striking, with dry landscape features dotted along the gravel paths. In the afternoon, sunlight streams through the eaves, creating elegant patterns of light and shadow. Every detail in the room showed thoughtful consideration. The minimalist soft furnishings were both luxurious and comfortable, and the bedding was soft and gentle on the skin, allowing me to shed my travel fatigue the moment I lay down. The high-quality toiletries on the vanity were on par with those found in five-star hotels. Even the hairdryer's power and noise control were just right, ensuring a peaceful rest. What truly impressed me was the guesthouse's service. The 24-hour butler was always on call, yet maintained a perfect sense of distance. Upon arrival, they proactively helped with luggage and offered tips for exploring the ancient city. They even arranged complimentary pick-up and drop-off services from the station, saving me the hassle of lugging suitcases around. The evening nightcap and hot soup were delightful surprises; on a chilly ancient city night, sipping warm soup instantly banished the cold. Breakfast was another highlight. The sea cucumber and millet porridge was rich and savory, and the handmade shaomai had thin wrappers and generous fillings, offering an authentic taste of Datong. Paired with refreshing side dishes and freshly ground soy milk, it was the perfect start to an energetic day. The guesthouse's location is also superb. Within a few minutes' walk, you can reach key attractions like Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple, eliminating the need for crowded transportation and allowing for a leisurely and enjoyable exploration of the ancient city. Upon check-out, the butler even presented a thoughtfully prepared souvenir, a true testament to their sincerity. This stay was absolutely perfect. I've already recommended Boli Designer Homestay to all my friends planning to visit Datong, and I'll definitely choose it again on my next visit to the ancient city! A special thank you to Butler Qiqi, who was incredibly patient and provided excellent service.

GGuest User✨ A hidden gem of a hotel! I was blown away the moment I walked in. Stepping into the room, I was instantly captivated by its brand-new, luxurious feel. Everything was new, with no unpleasant odors, just a fresh, natural wood scent. 🏠 Ambiance: The decor is exquisite and thoughtfully designed. With the warm lighting, the atmosphere is instantly elevated – they really understand what young people are looking for. 🛏️ Facilities: The mattress was perfectly balanced, not too soft, not too firm, and I slept soundly all night. The bathroom features high-end brands, and the water pressure is strong, making a shower feel like a spa treatment. ❤️ Service: The front desk staff were as friendly as an older brother next door, responding quickly to any request. The experience was absolutely perfect. Whether for a business trip or a vacation, this place is your perfect sanctuary.

GGuest UserThe environment was incredibly clean and quiet, and the facilities were very modern. The service was exceptionally attentive; the snacks and fruits were all to our taste, and breakfast had everything you could ask for. They frequently offered proactive reminders about complimentary services, and the airport shuttle was a huge plus. The staff, both male and female, were efficient, responsive, and incredibly polite and thoughtful, which made our stay very comfortable. We were extremely satisfied with our choice of hotel this time.

GGuest UserI've been to Datong twice, and this time I stayed in a guesthouse in the ancient city, which was a truly different experience. First off, the service was impeccable, far superior to any star-rated hotel. From booking to check-in and check-out, the staff's service-oriented mindset was excellent and incredibly thoughtful. Next, the decor: it's anything but the cookie-cutter style you find in hotels. From the lobby to the rooms, everything is unique and distinctive, I'd say it's an Italian style. The bedding and amenities in the room are all branded, and there's plenty of hot water. Breakfast is a nine-grid affair, and the sliced noodles were delicious. The coffee at the front desk was also good. They even offer free try-ons for travel photography outfits. Overall, the experience was fantastic and really changed my perception of guesthouses. I'll definitely come back to experience it again if I get the chance!

1118942****On this trip, after leaving my job, I've stayed in many places, but Datong was the most surprising city. It's full of historical sites, delicious food, and a vibrant, down-to-earth atmosphere. But what surprised me even more was the guesthouse I chose. I did extensive research and ultimately decided to stay within the ancient city, which turned out to be incredibly convenient for dining, lodging, and getting around. It was fantastic and perfectly suited me. Initially, I considered guesthouses in the Southeast District, but they were all new, and their styles were quite similar and unremarkable, much like guesthouses in other cities. So, I picked one with unique traditional Chinese characteristics, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was exactly to my liking – nutritious and light. The room was warm and cozy, and the toiletry kit was amazing, with thoughtful items inside. Even though it's been in the ancient city for ten years, the decor and renovation show no sign of age; it's incredibly well-maintained. The housekeeper mentioned they had just upgraded all the rooms before my arrival, haha! 😄 This guesthouse truly helped my restless mind calm down. It felt like staying in a museum. The aunties and housekeepers working here told me stories about every single object and corner, which deeply moved me. This is what a guesthouse should be – unpretentious and full of stories. The biggest surprise this time was having the chance to meet the owner, a wonderful lady. She was so nice, I initially thought she was just another staff member; she had absolutely no airs. More importantly, her experiences and background are incredible – she does extreme sports and has even climbed Mount Everest! Talking with her made me feel so comfortable and helped me let go of a lot of things. Thank you for the encounter; it was truly destiny. This was the most unexpected gain from my trip to Datong, and I will definitely go back if I get the chance! It felt just like home, with no sense of unfamiliarity whatsoever.

XXiongpapaI stayed one night in Datong at the Jingxi Bieyuan guesthouse. While not located in the heart of the ancient city, it's close to the Prince Dai's Mansion and the Nine-Dragon Wall. The parking lot is right next to the guesthouse entrance, providing direct access to the second basement level, which is equipped with an elevator (the guesthouse has two floors above ground and two below, giving it a villa-like layout). The ambiance is elegant. The second basement level houses a restaurant and tea room. Breakfast was quite good, with generous portions and a well-balanced menu, including porridge, milk, and wontons. The room wasn't large, but the cleanliness and facilities met my expectations. However, the room I was assigned wasn't the one I saw online when booking (out of 10 pictures, the guesthouse posted 9 of them showing the room with a side window overlooking the courtyard, while only the last picture showed the room without a side window, just a skylight). The two rooms offered a significantly different experience. I sincerely suggest that guesthouses avoid misleading guests when posting pictures online. Also, they should clearly explain the situation before assigning rooms, instead of simply sending a video or picture without any explanation. Travel is about experiencing the beauty of different places, and culture plays a significant role in that. I hope the guesthouse will improve its services and become better and better.

XXiatiandeyuanxing“Ji Xia Shan” (literally, “Below the Mountain”) is tucked away in a quiet corner of Datong's ancient city. Push open the courtyard gate, and the hustle and bustle instantly fade away. Green bricks, wooden structures, plain walls – colors are minimized, and tranquility is maximized. As night falls, another layer of light illuminates the courtyard. A fire-dancing artist moves with a 'fire pot,' a flick of their arms sending golden streams of fire streaking through the silent night. Sparks scatter between the eaves and the green bricks, flickering on and off like the unextinguished heartbeat of the sleeping ancient city. Silence and passion arrive simultaneously in this single courtyard. The room's window is understated. It doesn't rush to display a panoramic view; instead, it draws your eye to the layered rooftops, resembling distant mountains. And at this moment, through the window, the fire's reflection dances on the tea ceremony table. Ji Xia Shan doesn't create scenery. It simply filters out the noise for you, leaving behind the ancient city's true essence – and your true self. Checking in here is truly arriving.

GGuest UserI was greeted with a fruit platter during check-in, which was a wonderful welcome gesture considering I left my home about 24 hours earlier, traveling non-stop from California to Datong, China. The Inn provides a wonderful experience for the first-time foreign visitor. The interior decor has that Chinese charm consisting of artwork, a book display, an aquarium with an auspicious collection of 8 large fishes (carp, I think), in-room tea set with an on-table electric stove, which would be unique to most Westerners. The glass flooring adds an extraordinary appeal since I have never experienced that in a hotel before, and I have traveled to dozens of countries. The Inn is well located, a short bus ride to Datong Railway Station (for non-high-speed rail travel)*, and a short taxi ride to Datong South Railway Station (for high-speed rail travel)**. It is just next to Datong City Wall. You can walk along the top of the City Wall at no cost. A 10-20 minute walk takes you to nearly all the attractions within the ancient City Wall. Here you will also find a variety of restaurants serving local food as well as souvenir shops. There is also a small shop that sells sundry items including drinks (beer included) within a 5-minute walk from the Inn. Across from this sundry shop, is a shop that specializes in ancient Chinese clothing (Hanfu dress). They can dress you up, cosmetics included. The Inn provides directions to Yujian Yun Gang - a popular destination for travelers to Datong. Here you will see ancient Buddhist cave art, including large and tall (several stories tall) sculptures. It takes two bus rides to get there, 1RMB per ride. My booking choice was for either a guest room on the 1st or 2nd floor but was assigned a wonderful 2nd-floor guest room. The owners of the Inn were exceptionally friendly. I met both the mother and her daughter. My room was professionally cleaned and provided with drinking bottled water daily. If I return to Datong in the future, I will certainly book a room at this Inn. *I took a train from this station to travel south to Xinzhou after checking out. **I arrived in Datong from Beijing Daxing International Airport

AAnonymous UserFive-star review! First off, the room was spotless, with clean and fresh bedding and bathroom facilities, making for a very comfortable stay. The owner and staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, genuinely helpful with any issues, providing an excellent service experience. The location is quite easy to find, behind Daiwangfu, and while it's a bit of a distance from the ancient city's core, taxis are readily available. Friends who enjoy peace and quiet will love it here, as you won't be disturbed by the crowds and noise of the scenic area. Just a quick note on breakfast: there wasn't a huge variety, and it paled in comparison to more extensive hotel buffets. However, it was perfectly fine for a simple meal to start the day. Aside from this minor breakfast drawback, the guesthouse's facilities, service, and ambiance were outstanding, offering great value for money. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

TTaniaThe hotel has very spacious and comfortable rooms. The breakfast is only Chinese, but rich and plentiful. We can't comment on the location because we always took taxis to the attractions around Datong (the wooden pagoda, hanging monasteries, and the Yungang Grottoes), but right next to the hotel are plenty of restaurants and places to grab a quick bite. The staff seemed helpful, but no one spoke English, so we had to use a translation app, which wasn't always accurate, and communication was somewhat hampered.
