"Nestled on a hillside behind Yufuin's main Yunotsubo street, this hotel is a convenient ten-minute walk from the main thoroughfare. We booked the half-board option, and both the Japanese-style breakfast and dinner were delicious. The onsen (hot spring) facilities were also excellent, and having two private baths available for reservation was a huge plus. Overall, it offers great value for money."

"Baien is truly the best. The private open-air bath and the large public bath are both excellent. (Note: Be sure to confirm the private open-air bath when booking your ryokan stay.) The ryokan is spacious, so walks around the property are lovely. Both breakfast and dinner (kaiseki) are also superb. However, there's no entertainment nearby, so if your sole purpose is to enjoy the hot springs, you definitely won't regret it. I'd love to visit again in winter."

"I booked this onsen hotel more than half a year in advance, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The attention to detail was exceptional, truly impeccable. Having stayed at many beautiful onsen hotels in Japan, this was probably the best experience I've had! The hotel is right in the middle of Yufuin's main shopping street and offers free parking, which was the only place we found free parking during our Kyushu trip. Both breakfast and dinner were served in a private room. Before each meal, someone meticulously introduced every dish to us and even helped take photos – a truly ceremonial experience!"

"Although it's a little over a kilometer from the station, I highly recommend walking instead of taking a taxi, as the scenery along the way is absolutely beautiful. Cherry blossoms, streams, small bridges, distant mountains, fields, and a mix of Western and Japanese-style houses create a very soothing atmosphere. The hotel exceeded my expectations. The lobby is grand, and the front desk staff are fluent in English and provide detailed information. On the top floor (4th floor), there's an observation onsen. The rooms are purely Japanese style, clean, tidy, comfortable, spacious, fully functional, and offer expansive views of beautiful scenery. There's also a restaurant in the lobby. Many restaurants in Yufuin's Yunotsubo Street and Floral Village close by 4 PM. Personally, I find this natural, unspoiled environment much more relaxing than those famous, trendy tourist spots."

"Our stay at Yufuin ”Tano-kura” was absolutely flawless. First off, the service was truly top-notch. Our dedicated staff member (SIC) was incredibly professional and attentive, taking exceptional care of us throughout our visit. What really put us at ease was their meticulous attention to confirming food allergies, which allowed us to fully enjoy the exquisite and delicious cuisine without any worries. Every interaction, from the introduction to the hotel facilities to the meal service in our room, was handled with utmost politeness and respect. The environment was impeccably clean and tidy, making for a wonderfully comfortable stay. This trip truly allowed us to relax completely; we left feeling fully recharged and revitalized. "Overall, very satisfied! Location: It's about a 7-minute drive from the station, but the hotel offers a shuttle service during afternoon check-in and morning check-out, so you basically don't need to take a taxi. Try to explore the town and buy supplies before entering the hotel, otherwise it might be inconvenient to go out on your own. Environment: The hotel was clean, no stains. The environment outside the room was serene; you could occasionally hear cicadas and frogs. A dragonfly even came to greet me while I was soaking in the hot spring. It felt like being surrounded by nature, very comfortable, but surprisingly, there weren't any mosquitoes! Service: From the moment I boarded the shuttle, I didn't need to carry my luggage. The staff were friendly and smiling throughout, even joking around when explaining how to eat. Excellent service! Hotel Facilities: There doesn't seem to be a public hot spring, but the private hot spring is more than enough! Food: For dinner, I chose sukiyaki. The beef was tender and marbled with fat, but surprisingly, it tasted quite refreshing and didn't get greasy quickly (although it did get greasy towards the end, haha). Breakfast was also quite good; I especially loved the mentaiko with rice. I'll definitely come back next time!"

"I stayed here during my solo trip to Yufuin. On the day I checked in, I was playing nearby and accidentally fell into the river. I arrived around 2 PM, earlier than the official check-in time, and asked if an early check-in was possible. They initially said it was only possible at 3 PM. However, the female owner saw that I was completely soaked and immediately guided me to the public bath. She also told me where the nearest coin laundry was and even lent me a pair of slippers since my shoes were drenched. My solo trip could have been very difficult, but thanks to the owner, I was able to finish it healthy and happy. I'm incredibly grateful. If I ever visit Yufuin again with friends or family, I will definitely come back here. Thank you!"

"This beautiful Ryokan is over 100 years old with deep heritage. I like that it stay as it is as if time stood still. So full of character. I was drawn to the onsens featuring beautiful outdoor views. You'll get to enjoy indoor and outdoor onsens here.. You get to try different types of onsens as they switch around. The highlight was the mountain view, the tranquility that some accommodation lacks due to the amount of guests. Here, you see mostly adults, hence irs ideal for people looking for a quieter retreat. Finally I was absolutely blown away by the wagyu beef at each dinner buffet. The Oita beef was of good quality and there was crab legs and so many variety of seafood and Oita specialty. Breakfast did not disappoint. Love the Yufuin milk and the pudding. Service staff was very attentive too. Ideally for non driving travellers. A short walk to the station and kinrin river."

"Stayed one night at Seikouen ryokan and was really impressed by their service! The staff there were all very helpful and friendly! Breakfast and dinner were great too! We enjoyed ourselves at their private onsen! Special shout out to the staff who helped us with our luggages, even offered to help us take a pic on our last day and bidded us farewell at Yufuin Station! Would definitely recommend this ryokan for your stay at Yufuin!"

"Although the location is near the Yufuin station, it's not easy to find, we spend more than 30mins walking and asking around and lugging our luggage. But its 10mins walk to Lake Kinrin and Lawsons is just next door. Room is ok but no bathroom only a cramp toilet bowl and small wash basin. need to go to the public onsen near the lobby or in the courtyard for shower but the door can be locked for privacy, only problem is have to wait for your turn if someone else is using it. There is a dining area where you can heat food in microwave and big dining table to eat your meals, free coffee and drinking water is available too."
