Stayed for two nights. The hotel has a good foundation: the overall layout, decoration, and decoration are generous, classical style, the service of the service staff is also very good, the facilities are complete, and the location is also very good. If I have to give suggestions, I suggest that the hotel do a thorough cleaning, clear out the rest, and only leave the precious historical accumulation. I have a basis for saying this. The Orchid Hotel in Chiang Mai and the Speed Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap, where I stayed not long ago, are both classic old hotels, but they are both relatively refreshing and comfortable. I hope Antares can also be rejuvenated!

Booked 2 rooms for 4 guests via trip.com with an additional request for rooms with a connecting door. In the trip.com app, we intentionally correctly filled all the guest details for each rooms. Upon checkin, the hotel’s front desk said they cant accommodate the connecting room request because they say it was booked under different names. Sadly they used this opportunity to argue with us, printing out in front of ourselves with their printer on the front desk: 2 separate reservations under different names (Maybe since we intentionally filled those guest names correctly? But the contact number and email is still the same, no?). From it we briefly saw all details like the 2 different reservations numbers they used as the crucial evidence, and how our booking was routed through ******* (From this detail one could argue the request was lost through the flawed trip.com system. Yet the hotel could’ve investigated and be more proactive after seeing a reservation for one room asking for connecting doors??). I thought hotel guests checking in at night only wanted rest, not attending trial??? Although to be fair in the end they got us 2 connecting rooms, albeit at a low floor (after the unnecessary bargaining). They required Rp200K as deposit. Room was clean, with a very useful Korean brand smart tv. Functional hair dryer, good lighting, with an in-room safe, and a small fridge/chiller. Breakfast could’ve been better, but there’s a lot of cafes and restaurants within walking distance. We got valet parking but didn’t pay for it, was it complimentary because of the limited parking space this hotel has, or did we get it as compensation/goodwill, we never knew (this was not explained at check in).

图样The hotel's location is quite convenient, right opposite a Starbucks. However, traffic can be quite congested. The hotel staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. On a side note, the new spa downstairs is excellent, offering great value for money. If I ever get the chance to visit again, I'd definitely consider staying at this hotel.

Desmond solo travelThe lobby is well maintained. But a bit small. Once many ppl will feel crammed. The room is good but a bit run down. The furnitures should do some painting touch up. I like the gym with glass panel and roof. The pool a bit small. It's Raya season so many kids at the pool can't enjoy much.

Anonymous UserThe environment is good, located in the heart of Medan, close to shopping malls and not far from the Medan city rail station. Taxis are also convenient. It's worth noting that Medan Airport is quite a distance from the hotel, about a 1-hour taxi ride.

Not bad, pretty decent value for money. Breakfast was okay, but the hotel's surroundings aren't very convenient. Medan itself also feels quite chaotic.

Room is clean with all amenities including a safe box but is small. Some distance away from major happenings except the malls( Cambridge/Sun plaza), which also need 15-20 min walk. Breakfast is not good. Parking is provided though.

Anonymous UserI recently stayed at Grand Sakura Hotel in Medan, and overall, it was a decent experience—especially for the price.
The hotel is located in a pretty strategic area, making it easy to get around the city and access nearby attractions, shopping spots, and transportation. Many guests also highlight the convenience of its location and accessibility.
The room was spacious and fairly comfortable, with basic amenities like air conditioning, TV, and WiFi. Cleanliness was generally acceptable, although some areas could use better maintenance and attention to detail.
One of the positives is the staff—they were mostly friendly and helpful during the stay, which made the experience more pleasant. The breakfast offered a decent variety of food, though sometimes items were not refilled quickly during busy periods.
However, there are a few downsides. Some guests have reported issues like noise (especially from air conditioning units), occasional maintenance problems, and inconsistent service at the front desk. The facilities are also quite basic, so don’t expect anything luxurious.
Overall, Grand Sakura Hotel is a good budget-friendly option if you’re looking for a simple and convenient place to stay in Medan. It’s best suited for short stays or travelers who prioritize location and value over luxury.
