This hotel offers excellent value for money. Its central location in Kota Kinabalu is incredibly convenient for getting around and finding food, with many popular local eateries within walking distance. As an economy brand under Wyndham, the hotel is generally clean and tidy. While the rooms are designed with simplicity in mind, they offer ample space and good natural light, and all essential amenities are provided. The staff are quite enthusiastic, and check-in and check-out processes are quick. There's an international restaurant on-site. While the breakfast selection isn't particularly luxurious, it's perfectly adequate for a simple daily meal. If you're visiting Kota Kinabalu for leisure or business and looking for an affordable, well-located, and brand-backed place to stay, this is a very practical and comfortable choice.

This hotel boasts an excellent location with superb transportation links, making taxi rides to and from the airport incredibly convenient. Just a few hundred meters across the street, you'll find a large local shopping mall, and it's also very close to Gaya Street. The area offers a mature range of amenities, and the breakfast selection is diverse and good. Overall, my stay was very satisfying.

The hotel's location is excellent, just a 1-minute walk to Gaya Street. It's super convenient for dining, snacks, and buying souvenirs nearby. The hotel elevator requires a key card to operate, which adds a good sense of security. However, the room facilities are very basic; there's no bedside table, just a small stool. There's nowhere to put your backpack except on the floor. The bed is also too high. The hotel's cleaning service is quite flexible; you can request daily cleaning or just ask for trash disposal and toilet paper refills, catering to guest preferences. However, you need to inform the front desk before 11 AM daily for these requests.

Facilities: The decor style is similar to China's Hanting or Home Inns, very cozy. All facilities are well-equipped. Hygiene: Excellent cleanliness, the staff are attentive with their cleaning service. Service: Warm and welcoming service. Environment: It's close to everything, and getting around by taxi is very convenient. Downstairs, there are many restaurants and massage parlors nearby. Convenience stores and Watsons are also right downstairs, making life very convenient.

Cons: 1. Cleanliness & hotel housekeeping need improvement, I had seen rats in and out of the hotel 3 times, please refer to standard ISO & HIRARC for improvement. 2. It has no sound insulation effect at all and is not suitable for people with poor sleep. Pros: 1. Good service from the staffs who helped me to set up birthday surprise for my partner. 2. Yang Yang Kopitiam’s food is good. 3. The geographical location is good, and it is very close to wherever we go. Walking time within 10-20 minutes or Grab (mostly RM4-5 per trip, airport RM7-15).

I had a really pleasant stay at Sky Hotel Kota Kinabalu. The room was spacious, clean, and felt very comfortable—almost like a small apartment. I especially loved how convenient the location was, with shops and food places nearby. The staff were friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. Overall, it’s great value for money, and I’d definitely consider staying here again. 🌿

Overall, this hotel is quite good. For the price, the level of service offered in the Gaya Street area is considered above average and great value for money. The facilities are relatively new, and basic amenities are well provided. Hot water is reliable for showers, which is a plus. However, I would recommend bringing your own shampoo or purchasing one from the Watsons across the street for better quality and hair care. The staff are very friendly and helpful, which made the stay more pleasant. The in-room iron is also a nice touch and works well. That said, there is still room for improvement. Cleanliness could be better, and soundproofing is an issue—noise from doors slamming across the hallway can be quite disturbing, especially at night. Overall, despite some drawbacks, this hotel is still a solid budget-friendly option in a prime location.

Honest Review: The duo room is just nice for a family trip. There are both pros and cons. Cons: Mattress condition – The mattress needs to be replaced ASAP. It’s not firm, and you can feel the pocket springs. Air-conditioning issue – The AC in my room (702) was leaking and not cold while in use. We contacted the host, and the owner came the next day to fix it. While I appreciate the help, the cooling was still not satisfactory and clearly needs proper servicing. Parking problem – Parking is a major issue. Even if you try to park outside, there’s almost zero chance because most spots are reserved by restaurants or property owners. The only option is basement parking with hourly charges and no maximum cap. First 2 hours: RM2.50 Subsequent hours: RM1.50 per hour We paid nearly RM17.50 for about 11 hours. If your car doesn’t move, the charges continue until you leave. This is expensive and very inconvenient. 4. This 7th floor due rooms is facing main road building which look nice view, but very noises while during night you may hear the car road noise. Pros: Shower water pressure is great. The pantry is spacious and hygienic. Free access to Netflix on the TV. The host is helpful and willing to assist. Overall: I would rate this place 50/50. If you’re traveling to KK mainly for places like Imago Shopping Mall and not driving your own car, this place is acceptable. However, if you’re driving, I would not recommend staying here due to the parking issues and high cost. That’s all I want to share. Thank you.

BBrendon VI had an amazing experience at this hotel. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, expect the toilet is sharing and it's very dirty!. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with anything I needed. The location was perfect, and the view from my room was absolutely stunning — one of the highlights of my stay. Everything about this hotel felt high-quality, and I would definitely come back again. Highly recommend!

GGuest UserOverall, it was great. The room was spacious, clean, and the facilities weren't outdated, offering excellent value for money at this price point. The only downside was the noise. The soundproofing between rooms and from the hallway was good, but the air conditioning was very loud. When I turned off the AC at night, the street noise from motorbikes was incredibly loud, so I had to wear earplugs every night to sleep. The upside is that it's very convenient to get everywhere – the pier, shopping malls, and restaurants are all easily accessible.

JJoeytiniThe room has a very vintage feel, and given the price we paid, we didn’t set high expectations. However, we were truly surprised by the location — the balcony faces directly towards Mount Kinabalu, offering a breathtaking view! The room itself is quite basic, with only essential amenities like towels, a hot water heater, hangers, a kettle, and a hairdryer. But what truly made our stay memorable was the owners, a lovely couple who treated us like family. Their warmth and hospitality were beyond expectations, and they were always ready to help with any inquiries about Kundasang. They also mentioned that the place will be undergoing renovations soon after nearly 30 years. I am really looking forward to returning. Because honestly, their hospitality won my heart! ❤️

LLove CoffeeMy first stay here and I think would be my last too. Was actually requested a quiet room but still giving the room which facing the contrustion site. Noise of the construction site was up to 10pm+ and 5am+ the prayer from the nearby mosque will make you jump! Impressive with the location but not the room. Furnitures in room quite old but still acceptable, but cleanliness and maintenance was terrible. 1) Water leaks out from shower room to walkway via the wall. 2) Old and dirty toilet with mold 3) Malfunctioning light bulb 4) Stains on the towel ( sticky like chocolate, like unwashed) 5) Ants on table & bed! 6) Loosen door lock 7) Dirty chair

GGuest UserThis hotel is good, right by the beach. The room is large and spacious, with all the amenities. The slightly worn bathroom door isn't something I'd consider a drawback. There were no insects. I really think this is the place to stay, especially since it's close to the airport. I couldn't find anywhere to buy food nearby, though. You can take a taxi to the central market or the Filipino market. I also liked that they checked me in in the morning, despite my early arrival. In Kuala Lumpur, I had to wait around until 2 PM to check in.

GGuest UserI contacted the hotel via WhatsApp 3 days before check-in, and they replied very quickly. They even called me back, and the communication was very smooth. The boat departs from the jetty at 1:30 PM, but when we arrived at 12:30 PM, the boat was already waiting. Someone helped us with our luggage when we boarded. Later, we found out they weren't hotel staff, so we tipped each of them RM5. The hotel's check-out time is 10 AM, and the latest guests can leave by boat is 11 AM because the boat cannot sail after low tide. So, no late check-outs are possible. On the way there, it was high tide, and the boat sailed over shallow waters. The 'jelly sea' was absolutely stunning. My initial apprehension instantly turned into pure delight – it was so worth it! We were 6 adults and 3 children. We originally booked one triple fan room and one quintuple fan room. Because I didn't want a corner room, and the quintuple room was in the westernmost corner, and since there weren't many guests during the off-peak season (we practically had the place to ourselves, which was a pleasant surprise!), the hotel generously gave us an additional triple room and upgraded all our rooms to air-conditioned ones. Another great surprise! Actually, the sea breeze was strong, and opening the window with a fan was already very comfortable, so we didn't really need the air conditioning. In fact, after snorkeling, we found it too cold in the room, so we promptly turned off the AC. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations. The quintuple room was newer, while the two triple rooms were smaller and older. However, the sea view was so beautiful, and given the great value for money, these minor issues were acceptable. The hotel owner was also very accommodating and gave us keys to a few rooms, letting us choose which ones we wanted. Since the quintuple room was on the western side, the sunset views were spectacular. My friends even saw sea turtles twice from their room at night. After watching the sunrise, we walked to the easternmost part of the hotel. There's a bridge there that's perfect for photos, and we kept seeing sea turtles, which was such an amazing surprise! We saw about 7-8 sea turtles intermittently, and they were huge! It might have been the start of low tide, and they were all swimming towards the deep sea. This must be a common path for them, and it was the biggest highlight of our trip. The hotel has Wi-Fi and accepts TNG for payment. The round-trip boat ticket costs RM100, and children ride for free. Life jackets are RM5, and swimming rings are RM10 (no time limit). The hotel's snorkeling masks were broken and unavailable for rent, so it's best to bring your own. The sea has lots of corals, starfish, and fish, making it excellent for snorkeling. Bring extra bread to feed the fish. The hotel doesn't provide bottled water or hair dryers, but there's hot water and tea bags. Dinner was local Malay food, which might not suit everyone's palate, but we found it quite good, and the fish was cooked tenderly. The simple breakfast included delicious fried rice noodles. We also brought some chocolates and instant cereal/drink mixes to prepare with the hotel's hot water. There's also free karaoke and Lami mahjong, though they can only be used until 11 PM. The karaoke is a new facility, only 4 months old, and the sound system is excellent. The Lami mahjong set was brand new. In summary: Although the hotel is a bit old, the sea is incredibly beautiful, and we even saw sea turtles. For the price, it offers great value. Overall, I highly recommend it.

GGuest UserThe closest hotel to the pier, hands down. I don't know how the ratings are calculated... I'm not judging it by domestic standards; when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Local facilities just aren't that great. Based on what I saw online, I thought it would be terrible, but the room was surprisingly clean. Although there's nowhere to hang clothes to dry, I'd advise anyone who loves going out to sea and exploring the pier to stay close by. The front desk staff were also great; they have a WeChat for communication and translation. Don't bother looking at the negative reviews or the ratings. I stayed in town for 6 days, and the first place, which had the highest rating, was personally the worst.

RRay-Guo CLThis was my first time staying in an overwater bungalow, and I had high expectations. The best part of this overwater bungalow experience was the customer service staff; they answered all my questions and even helped arrange a private car to the airport. The scenery from the overwater bungalow was beautiful. I booked a detached overwater villa, but there was no ladder from the room directly into the water. The air conditioning ran all afternoon, yet the room remained hot. I initially thought it was due to the intense afternoon sun, but it still didn't cool down at night, and the AC was noisy. I was stuck between turning it on or off. The bedding wasn't comfortable, and I barely slept all night. As for the 'meals included,' I didn't have high hopes for the food anyway, but I at least expected it to be clean and fresh. The seafood consisted only of shrimp and crab, and frankly, the meat tasted far from fresh. The water had impurities, and the dishes had stains. For over 2000 a night, it was absolutely not worth it – a complete waste of money. The only thing I can praise is the customer service staff. I didn't take any pictures because it wasn't worth wasting my phone's memory.
