RachelCyOverall, I had a pleasant stay and a good experience. The staff were all very polite, friendly, and helpful, which made us feel welcome throughout our stay.
The hotel itself is a little dated, and some areas could benefit from better maintenance. The tiles underneath the sink were cracked and looked as though they might come loose, which was a bit concerning. There were also some marks and stains around the sink area. They may simply be due to age or water stains, but they gave the bathroom a less clean appearance.
One thing that concerned me was the presence of Charlie ants (rove beetles). We noticed them outside the room, and there were also quite a few in the steam room. Although the hotel has placed notices to warn guests about them, they are extremely small and difficult to spot unless you look very carefully. Since contact with them can cause skin irritation, it was a little worrying.
Overall, the staff provided excellent service, and we enjoyed our stay. I hope the hotel can improve the maintenance of the facilities and continue taking measures to reduce the presence of Charlie ants, as these improvements would make the experience even better.

Guest UserWe chose The Lone Pine Hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I was worried that arriving too late on the first day would spoil the romantic vibe, but the hotel was incredibly accommodating. They proactively arranged for our cake and gifts to be delivered the next morning, allowing us to enjoy them leisurely – this thoughtful detail was a huge plus.
As for the view, we were lucky enough to be upgraded to a sea-view room. The endless blue ocean outside the window offered a superb vista. Even more surprising was that I had only booked breakfast for the first day because we had an early start on the second. Yet, the hotel upgraded our second day's breakfast for free – so incredibly considerate!
The food was the major highlight of this trip: I highly recommend the fried chicken at the breakfast buffet; it's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, usually gone before 11 AM. After 10 AM, there's also an outdoor Welcome Drink by the pool, and the adjacent Barbecue area offers amazing fried kway teow and roti canai. The overall dining atmosphere was very chill.
The location is also very convenient, just a few minutes' walk to late-night snack stalls and the beach torch performance. Finally, I must praise the nighttime experience – many might mind the sound of the waves, but I absolutely love falling asleep to them; it's incredibly therapeutic and relaxing. It's basically a place where you can just unwind for a couple of days 🎶.
One small suggestion: The hotel could perhaps optimize the color scheme of its lighting.
Overall, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who loves a slow pace and a seaside getaway! 🌊🍗

Lester T WongThe hotel's facilities are exceptional. On a clear day, the sea view is absolutely stunning, with a vast ocean panorama right outside the room window. If the weather is good, you can even catch the sunset.
I gave the facilities five stars because there are two swimming pools: one children's pool with a small slide, and a sky pool more suitable for adults. You can order food by the sky pool, and it's quite good.
Additionally, for families with children, there's a kids' playground with various activities. Children aged five and above can be looked after, allowing adults to go to the gym or do other things, which is a very thoughtful service.
I only gave the hotel's location and cleanliness three stars. The location is quiet but there's nothing else nearby. Typically, beachfront hotels are closer to night markets, especially this one which is quite secluded. The hotel does offer a shuttle service, but when I enquired, they didn't mention the need for a reservation, and there was only one scheduled trip. I arrived 15 minutes early only to be told I needed a reservation, and by then, it was full. Luckily, a 10-minute taxi ride still works.
Regarding cleanliness, the room attendant didn't clean properly. Leftover takeout food was still in the room, which was quite disappointing.

Guest UserOur last hotel in Penang was in Batu Ferringhi. The hotel isn't very large, and the room facilities are a bit dated, but the experience was excellent! First, the resort layout is well-designed; despite its size, the areas are cleverly arranged, creating beautiful views at every turn. There are several swimming pools, including two for children with slides and more. Most importantly, there are staff members consistently present at the slides and by the pools to supervise and maintain order, ensuring children can play safely and securely! Breakfast was also great; although there was a queue during peak hours, the food was delicious and offered a wide variety. The beach bar also had good food, and it was lovely to relax there with the lights on at night.
The best part is that the hotel has direct access to the beach and the sea! And the path from the hotel to the sea looks absolutely beautiful when lit up at night.
We booked a two-story family room with a lovely balcony. The staff service was also excellent. I'm giving it five stars.

88jaThe sea-view rooms are indeed beautiful, and the entire hotel complex boasts a large lawn with very relaxing recliners facing the sea, which is incredibly comfortable.
However, some sea-view rooms can have their views obstructed by trees. It's worth asking the front desk if they have other available rooms for a potential change.
The room size was comfortable, but the shower water had a slight chlorine smell. The TV was an older model, unable to play any external media. Privacy on the balcony was quite poor, as there was only a low wall, meaning you could easily chat and exchange fruit with your neighbors.
The hotel breakfast looked plentiful, but many of the options were local Malay dishes, which might not suit everyone's palate. Western options were available but relatively few.
If you exit the hotel and turn right, it's about a 10-15 minute walk to a few convenience stores where you can stock up on supplies. There's also a Thai restaurant called SOi55 that's quite good, and more convenience stores on the side of that building for restocking.

Fantastic hotel with top-tier service, though the location is average
My friend and I stayed for one night in a Standard Room at the Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City. The hotel truly feels like a 5-star property, and the cleanliness, service, and amenities were all absolutely excellent. We were well taken care of by the attentive staff, and the facilities—like the outdoor swimming pool and fitness centre—were top-notch. The only minor downside was the location in Perai, which we felt was just average compared to staying directly on Penang Island. Overall, it is a great choice if you prioritize comfort and exceptional service!

BingTaoI had an excellent stay at G Hotel Gurney in the Executive Suite. The suite was spacious, modern, and beautifully maintained, with a comfortable bed and a great view. It was the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring Penang.
The hotel’s location is fantastic, right next to Gurney Plaza and within walking distance of many popular eateries. The staff were professional, friendly, and always willing to assist, making the entire stay even more enjoyable.
The Executive Lounge was a great addition, offering a quiet and comfortable space to unwind with complimentary refreshments. Breakfast was also excellent, with a wide selection of local and international dishes.
Overall, everything from the room quality to the service exceeded my expectations. I would definitely choose G Hotel Gurney again on my next visit to Penang and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and luxurious stay.

We had a peaceful and relaxing stay at Bertam Resort. The atmosphere was calm, and it’s a great place to unwind with family.
The only area that needs improvement is child safety. The balcony railing is quite low, which can be concerning for families with young children. It would also be more convenient if there was direct access to Bertam Water Park from the resort.
Overall, we had a pleasant experience, and everything else was great. With a few improvements to safety and accessibility, this resort would be even better.

AilvyoudexiaoyangzaiOur first choice for a family of four! The hotel is very clean, with two rooms – one for the kids and one for the adults. It has a fridge, microwave, water purifier, and induction cooker. Great value for money, and the rooftop open-air pool is fantastic with amazing night views. There are many restaurants downstairs, and it's about a 20-25 minute walk to the Street Art area, making it a great city for a city walk. The Japanese restaurant right outside the hotel is super delicious and highly recommended! No complaints besides the late check-in time, which is after 3 PM.

MengnuonishaBefore we even got out of the car, the doorman was already there, taking our luggage from the trunk. He very warmly guided us to the front desk. The lady at the front desk who handled our check-in was also very nice and meticulously explained all our benefits. She even mentioned that the executive lounge closes at 7 PM and suggested we go have some food and drinks there first, while our luggage would be sent up to our room. The doorman also gave us a quick tour of the room, pointing out that we could see the sunset from the left side and the sunrise from the balcony on the right. He told us this room had the best view. The interior decor isn't old-fashioned either, and the bed is just the right firmness – very comfortable. Room service was also excellent. And the view? Needless to say, it's the best in George Town. Oh, and the steak at the restaurant was delicious!
