Took my mom out for a trip and saw Aling's live stream on Douyin. She came across as very practical, genuine, and unpretentious, so we decided to stay for a few days. Overall, it was a really good experience. As soon as you enter the courtyard, there's a water feature with koi fish, which gives a vibrant and lively feel. The two young men working there were incredibly attentive and patient in answering our questions, and their demeanor was very refined. We also had the good fortune to meet a compatible travel couple, Sister Liu and her husband, at Aling's place. It felt like such a serendipitous encounter for people from the north and south to meet here. In the evening, we gathered in Aling's courtyard to chat, drink tea, and share our travel experiences. It was truly delightful. Thank you, Aling, for bringing us all together!

He was incredibly caring and attentive throughout our stay, taking the time to help arrange our itinerary and providing valuable local insights. Mr. Sing's assistance was invaluable - he personally helped us with our luggage from the main entrance all the way up to the hotel, which we greatly appreciated. His local knowledge really enhanced our trip, as he introduced us to excellent dining options and guided us to the best shopping areas in the vicinity. The genuine care and attention to detail shown by our host Mr. Sing made our stay not just comfortable, but truly memorable. By chance, I booked this guesthouse/hotel located at the top of Lion Rock, and the overall environment and hygiene were excellent. Not only can you get a panoramic view of the ancient city, but you can also see the snow-capped mountains right from your room. The third-floor terrace is very comfortable; in the afternoon, they offer complimentary drinks, and you can enjoy the scenery while basking in the sun, which is incredibly relaxing. The owner, a young man, is also wonderful – cheerful and kind-hearted. Since I was traveling with my 80-year-old mother to Lijiang this time, the owner was incredibly thoughtful, paying attention to every detail to ensure her comfort. Bringing my mother here has been a long-cherished wish of mine, and she was very satisfied with her two-day stay at this guesthouse. Many thanks to the owner for making these the best memories for my mother in Lijiang. Good conscience is the best brand, and kindness is priceless. Very unique accommodations in the middle of Lijiang Ancient Town. This hotel has adorable pet dogs and cats. We also met a very amusing pair of parrots with an entertaining command of the native language. The curiously eclectic decor also added to charm. If you are into browsing endless shops and restaurants this is a great place to stay. The close by Zhongyi traditional market with its very busy and crowded night market offers a huge number of food stalls for foodie visitors. The downside is that vehicles such as cars or scooters are not allowed on the narrow paths in the Ancient Town which for us meant a ten minute walk to reach the surrounding roads to catch buses and taxis to outside shopping or tourist attractions. But overall this is a great place to stay if you are reasonably mobile. I would like to add that the host was incredibly hospitable in making sure our needs were met and helping us arrange for a transfer at the end of our stay.

The privacy is excellent, and strolling through the grounds is incredibly relaxing. Everything is meticulously maintained and clean, making it perfect for both unwinding and taking photos. I must also commend the hotel's restaurant; the food quality is top-notch, with fresh ingredients and outstanding flavors, and the service is attentive, making for a very pleasant dining experience. He was responsive, paid close attention to details, and struck the perfect balance, ensuring all our needs were met with care, making us feel incredibly comfortable. If you're visiting Lijiang's Shuhe Ancient Town, you absolutely cannot miss the amazing Guanxin Inn! The environment here is beautiful, with lush greenery in the courtyard and fresh air that instantly helps you relax. The bedding in the rooms is exceptionally comfortable – a good night's sleep here will leave you feeling completely refreshed! The service is incredibly thoughtful and attentive; no matter what you need, they'll help you out, making you feel as warm and welcome as if you were at home. Step outside the inn and you can immediately experience the ancient town's unique charm and leisurely pace of life, making it perfect for a relaxing vacation and capturing some great photos! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful and immersive experience of Lijiang's culture!

This guesthouse has an amazing location, just a few minutes' walk from the Grand Water Wheel. The rooftop viewing platform offers stunning panoramic views of the entire ancient city. The owner was incredibly welcoming and even upgraded me to a room with a view for free! The breakfast, with rice noodles, eggs, and congee, was simple, clean, and delicious. Any questions I had throughout my stay were patiently answered by the front desk staff. I'll definitely choose this place again next time I'm in Lijiang.

I appreciated the convenient location and service, but the misleading tour arrangements, unexpected extra charges, and poor coordination made my overall stay frustrating and disappointing. Location: The hotel is in the southern part of the Old Town, which has fewer crowds than other areas. It’s quieter, still beautiful, and easily accessible. Service: The hotel offers one complimentary train/airport pickup if arranged in advance (for 3 night stay). The staff helped carry my luggage from the South Gate (cars can’t enter the Old Town) and provided welcome fruit upon request. Breakfast was as described, though the noodles were undercooked. The staff were responsive and helped me book tickets, including a trip to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain—but this is where things went wrong. Initially, the hotel staff quoted me a reasonable price that matched my research and said the schedule was flexible, I could spend as much time as I like. When I went to book, they suddenly told me I needed to pay about 200 RMB more because I was a foreigner—something I knew wasn’t true from my experience in other cities. They also said lunch was mandatory. I was short on time and wanted convenience, so I accepted the extra charges. Although I was told that jackets, oxygen bottles, and water would be provided, the driver took me and other Chinese tourists to a store to buy additional oxygen and energy drinks at four times the normal price. There I was told the “free” oxygen bottle was too small—information the hotel hadn’t mentioned. I bought one just in case but never needed it. I booked a sunrise tour with a 5 a.m. pickup, but we didn’t actually see sunrise at the mountain—partly due to weather, partly because the schedule wasn’t designed for it. The driver took me to Blue Moon Lake first, then the cable car, and the Impression of Lijiang show last. He kept saying I was short on time, so I needed to buy an additional ticket for battery car to get around and rushed through Blue Moon Lake without knowing how long the walk should take, only to end up waiting an hour at the cable car. After the show, we were taken to lunch, which had no menu—just a very basic hot pot shared with random strangers seated at the same table. The driver texted me to hurry up because other passengers were waiting and even told me that they didn’t pay for lunch because they knew it wasn’t good. That upset me even more. Overall, I felt rushed, overcharged, and misled, and the whole experience made the trip far less enjoyable. Amenities: The amenities were as described, but there was no daily housekeeping or towel replacement.

Bringing my parents to Lijiang, the Banyan Tree Lijiang was an unexpected and delightful surprise. This is a remarkably distinctive Chinese courtyard-style hotel, and staying here truly made me understand what it means to “live among bamboo, in fragrant rooms, with a tranquil heart.” We stayed in the standalone villa 2130, and from the bed, we could gaze upon the bamboo shadows and Japanese maple leaves in the courtyard. When the wind blew, the dappled tree shadows danced on the wall, like a living ink wash painting. The wooden tones of the room and the subtle sandalwood fragrance complemented each other perfectly. It wasn't just superficial oriental symbols, but a profound and substantial Chinese aesthetic. Even behind the vanity, there was a reflection of swaying bamboo shadows, and at that moment, I truly understood the meaning of “one cannot live without bamboo.” What touched me most was the long-lost, absolute quiet of the private space. For every meal, we chose to dine in our own courtyard. The outdoor breeze, the light in the yard, the warm food, and each other's company made for a relaxation that felt almost luxurious. The service completely overturned my imagination of “hotel service.” A shuttle bus was always available right outside, arriving within three minutes of a call. We ordered takeout five or six times a day, including small items like oxygen tanks, and they were delivered to our room within five or six minutes. Efficient, thoughtful, and unobtrusive – this kind of subtle care was incredibly reassuring. Honestly, I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews; at least during our stay, everything exceeded our expectations. For our last meal, we had yak hotpot at Xi Restaurant. The portions were generous, and the tableware was exquisite and elegant. Enjoying the steaming hotpot, with the hotel's signature woody sandalwood scent in the air, and even bamboo still visible in the bathroom – it was refined to the very end. From the first glance to the last bite, Banyan Tree Lijiang perfectly captured all my imaginings of a “Chinese resort experience.” It wasn't superficial luxury, but a profound and sophisticated sense of elegance that lingers.

This was truly a unique experience! The price was great, the environment was lovely, and the service was incredibly thoughtful. The front desk lady meticulously explained how to see the 'sunrise over the golden mountains' and how to explore Lijiang. The best part? The guesthouse owner turned out to be from my hometown in Chongqing, and even our neighbor! What a small world, you couldn't make this up. We drank tea in the afternoon and had drinks together in the evening – they were so incredibly hospitable! 😍 Next time I'm in Lijiang, I'm definitely staying here again.
