Hotels near Namdaemun Gate, Seoul

Wish they could have an overall 5 star rating and I will have rated it 5!! Booked the deluxe queen room and the hotel kindly accommodated my requirements for a quiet room so they did give me as best the quietest room at a corner between the roads. It was very very spacious and well kept but what made it Above 5 stars was , the last night I stayed, there was noise coming from one of the neighboring rooms. The front desk helped to arrange an alternative room at 1am (of course thankfully it wasn’t the peak season) but also helped to speak to the guest because I went back to my original room and it became quieter. Finally on check out, as I collected my luggage, a front desk officer ran out to gift me a bag of drinks and coookies to apologize for the noise! Wow, I have just recently travelled to Tokyo and in contrast had a poor and rude experience from the front desk and that hotel was like a 4.5 stars and Japanese were suppsed to be a lot more service oriented? Anyway, to not digress, prior to this, the front desk was always helpful with directions and spoke perfect english. I will highly recommend staying here and coming back again.

What a prime area to stay in! It’s about a 2min walk to the Namdaemun Market and about 5-10min walk to Myeongdong. The rooms are good quality. I had a great City view. The building has a CU and Starbucks on the ground floor, which makes life super convenient. The staff were super welcoming and friendly. The only comment I had mentioned to the receptionist upon check out was that my room was just a bit dusty. They do have an air purifier in the room, but I had no idea how to work it. Overall, I would definitely come back again!

This hotel is a 5-minute walk from Myeongdong Shinsegae, and the Myeongdong street food alley is right across the road. There's a cafe downstairs. The room isn't huge, but there's enough space for two suitcases. The hotel service is excellent, and there are front desk staff who speak Chinese, so communication was a breeze.

The location is excellent. Namsan Market is right across the street, Lotte Department Store and Duty-Free Shop are just a block to the left, and Shinsegae Department Store and Duty-Free Shop are diagonally across the street. Myeongdong shopping street is located between the two department stores. Gyeongbokgung Palace is within 3 km, and N Seoul Tower is also very close. For dining, just turn left and then left again from the hotel exit, and you'll find a street with local restaurants. However, the service is very basic. Disposable items in Korea are charged separately, and the toilet and shower are combined in one space. The wardrobe is inside a garment care machine, and detergent for the drum washing machine needs to be purchased extra. Luggage storage is in lockers in the basement, costing 10,000 Korean Won for over 4 hours with a progressive rate. There's no breakfast, and although there's a Chinese restaurant next door offering a 13,800 won set meal, no one seems to eat there. Guests are diverse, with a majority being Chinese. Rooms facing the street are relatively quiet, but the single beds are a bit small. Communication with the front desk in English was seamless.

The hotel is located near City Hall Station, just one stop away from Myeongdong (Euljiro 1-ga Station, Line 2). Exit 9 of City Hall Station has an elevator, which is very convenient for managing luggage. There's a slight slope leading up to the hotel entrance, but it's not a big deal. I arrived at the hotel around 1 PM, and my room was already ready, so I was able to check in early. The front desk staff, especially the ladies, were incredibly friendly and helpful with check-in, check-out, and luggage storage. The hotel also has a gym and a pool available, which I unfortunately didn't get to use this time. The room itself is very spacious. The king-sized bed is huge, easily big enough for two people. The bathroom is also quite large and comes with a bathtub. They provide shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap, body lotion, a comb, and a shower cap. Disposable slippers are also included, so you don't need to bring your own. The only thing you'll need to bring is a toothbrush, though you can purchase one at the hotel for 1000 Korean Won. The soundproofing at night was good; I didn't hear any loud noises. In the morning, you might hear a faint sound of doors opening outside. Downstairs, there's a popular clam noodle restaurant and an upcoming Mega Coffee shop. The only downside is that the CU convenience store downstairs isn't open 24 hours, and there are no other convenience stores nearby. You'll need to buy anything you need before returning to the hotel.

Hotel is a little dated. I got the corner suite with a double. The room was very large and clean, however, it felt very bland and could use some decorating to give it a more comforting stay. Only complaint is the elevator is too old. The up/down buttons are hard to press (both sets of them) on the lobby floor and the interior buttons are hard to see and laid out weirdly. Location of the hotel is about a 7min walk to nearest major bus stops (there is one closer but it is less used). Convenience store is across the street. We didn't try the restaurant buffets as it seems overpriced. The suite and bathroom were very big and I like that a lot. However, this would not be my first choice when we return to Seoul.

The 10 AM check-in time caught me a bit off guard; I really should have double-checked. Nevertheless, I was waiting in what I presumed was the lobby, and perhaps sensing my plight, they kindly allowed me to check in a bit early. I was extremely grateful for their understanding.

Conveniently located as hotel can easily be reached by airport bus. If you plan to take airport bus to the airport, airport bus is in the opposite direction. Subway station is right in front of the hotel but do note that subway station quite big. Stayed here during winter and room can be quite hot if you don’t open the curtains. Toothbrush available but with a fee. Iron provided in the room and staffs are friendly but maybe need to improve more. Toilet has bidet which is a huge plus. Room is not too big if you stay 2 persons in 1 room with big luggage it may be quite difficult. Bed and pillows very soft and comfortable i had a good night sleep while staying here. I got a street view for my room but it’s not that noisy for me. The view was really nice. In terms of location, it’s not that near to tourist areas but if you want to explore and stay other areas, then you can consider this hotel. There’s a lotteria across the hotel and it’s open 24 hours.

I rarely write hotel reviews, but I just had to for this one! Today, I decided to explore a different area and moved to a hotel in Hongdae. The contrast was shocking – both are in popular Seoul areas, but the difference was huge! On that note, I'm going to call out 9 Bricks Hotel Hongdae as one to avoid. I'll be reviewing them when I check out tomorrow… Now, let me praise L'escape – the location is absolutely fantastic! It's right by Hoehyeon Station on Subway Line 4, Exit 7. From the escalator at the exit, there are signs directing you to the hotel! Honestly, you don't even need the signs because you can see the hotel as soon as you step out onto the street. There's a slight uphill walk, and as I was halfway up with my luggage, a hotel staff member came running out to help! The service was incredible! 👍 If you don't go above ground from Exit 7, the other direction leads directly into Shinsegae Department Store. It’s a multi-story department store with food, a duty-free shop, luxury goods, and affordable items – great for browsing! Outside on the ground level of Shinsegae, there's a 3D mega-screen, similar to the one at Taikoo Li in Chengdu, but much more visually appealing and with fewer advertisements. The hotel is just a 5-minute walk from Myeongdong. As a proper tourist, Myeongdong is a must-visit! Especially after exploring Hongdae today… I really want to go back to Myeongdong! 😢 Now, about the hotel itself (my picture arrangement is a bit messy, can't adjust it yet…) The hotel itself has a distinctive style. It might feel a little old-fashioned and perhaps not ideal for families with young children, but it's clean, tidy, and still very refined! Even the elevators are decorated, somewhat reminiscent of The Ritz in London. The toiletries are BYREDO, just like at Six Senses. The mini-bar is completely free, and the Nespresso capsules and chocolates are excellent. The hotel's restaurant is Michelin-starred year after year – not cheap, but certainly fantastic. The Tea Lounge was closed by the time I arrived, but I'm sure it's also wonderful. The bar on the 26th floor is very chill, and you can get great photos with ease! The postcards provided in the room are beautiful, and they even offer free mailing! I also love the design of the notepads and the toiletry packaging – the hand-drawn illustration style is gorgeous! The hotel service is also excellent. Most of the staff speak English and are always ready to help with luggage, calling taxis, and opening car doors. In summary, it's a high-end hotel service experience through and through! But I only paid just over 800 RMB for my stay – it far exceeded my expectations! Next time I come to Seoul, I will 100% rebook this hotel.

The hotel's biggest highlight is its excellent location. There's a 7-Eleven right downstairs, and the Myeongdong walking street is just outside. Turn left from the hotel and OLIVEYOUNG is a mere 2-minute walk away. It's also close to Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station, Exit 5, and the 6015 airport limousine bus stop. To get to the hotel, take airport bus 6015 to the stop in front of the Ibis Hotel, across from Lotte Department Store. From there, it's less than a 10-minute walk to the hotel. Even though I arrived before 3 PM, the front desk was kind enough to check me in early. The room is quite basic, but it was cleaned daily. I wouldn't recommend the breakfast. There's very little variety. For main dishes, besides bibimbap and three types of bread, there were only small cups of instant noodles. The price isn't cheap either. For the same price, you could find many other dining options nearby.
