"The service attitude at the hotel was somewhat poor, and the check-in time was not very accommodating. Even when I arrived about 30 minutes early, I was told that no rooms were available, although the hotel did not appear to be fully occupied. Housekeeping did not change the bed sheets during my stay, which was disappointing. On the positive side, the hotel is conveniently located near the train station, making transportation easy."

"The place is super close to alot of mainstream attractions. Easily walking or one train stop away from Kyoto main station. The host is super knowledgeable on the Kyoto attractions and very helpful. Everyone in the team speaks English extremely well . The place is super clean and very organized. You can see the love given to his place. Dont skip the chat in the main lobby as you can learn alot from the host and other staff. Kudos for their passion. Definitely a place for me to come back."

"I loooove Piece Hostel Sanjo! The staff is super helpful, its in a very good location whereby you'll reach the train station or bus stop in less than 10 mins by foot! The room is actually quite spacious and I love the area that you can just hang out to eat your kombini meals or people watch! Didnt use the rooftop at all though cos its winter and having breakfast (that you pay for) is convenient when you dont wanna plan! The luggage storage area is awesome, btw! Missing this place already!"

"Having stayed in Arashiyama already for 1 day at another nearby hotel, I hadn’t anticipated liking the area so much. I located Mulan Hotel and stayed in the dorm bed for 2 nights. Being the only guest there, the beds and common areas (such as bathrooms, kitchen etc) were clean. They had access to a washing machine and dryer which was appreciated after 2 weeks of travel. Presented with a discount coupon for the neighbourhood onsen, 2 minutes walk from the hotel is a must! They also have bikes for hire, which made exploring the local area and neighbourhood really enjoyable. Price is great for those on a budget. The bus stop to return to Kyoto Station is 80m from the front entrance. Be mindful its 15-20 minute walk to the major sites and main restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended and I look forward to my visit there again soon!"

"Although it was short, I loved my stay here. Had great quality of sleep. Good base for Kyoto, near enough to key locations, but expect a lot of walking unless you use the bus. Nearest station is Kyoto Kawaramachi which is great for day drips just outside central Kyoto and if you are coming from Osaka or Kansai airport - see my tips below. Pros: great bathroom and toiletries, good water pressure and temperature, smart toilet, TV with streaming services, fridge, desk/stool, coat hooks (handy for winter time), semi-full length mirror, luggage rack, various lights to adjust to your preference, very clean, super comfortable firm mattress and pillows, good soundproofing for light sleepers, great air conditioning (room warms up pretty quickly in the winter), you can also open the windows which is nice, felt very safe as a solo female, can ask for more water bottles in reception, lift was never crowded, outlets next to bed, has luggage storage if you need, near the river and traditional streets for scenic strolls, close to bus stop, family mart otw from station for late night snacks. Cons: can hear police cars or cars with loud engines at night sometimes but not frequent, walking from the station with a suitcase was a bit longer than expected, my double room was a bit cramped for opening suitcase (could not open the front or bathroom doors fully to avoid hitting my suitcase) and I am one person (two suitcases would fit but you wouldn't be able to walk around the bed properly). Tips: If you are coming from Kansai airport (KIX), I recommend you take the airport limousine to Namba (bought a return ticket since it is cheaper). It drops you outside JR Namba station, you can go inside to get to the metro station, follow signs for the red Midosuji Line. Board the train to Umeda. Stay inside the station and follow signs for Osaka-Umeda or the brown Hankyu-Kyoto line. This line goes directly to Kyoto Kawaramachi station. When stations, always look for the lift signs if you have luggages. I think I took the lift closest to Exit 4, and it brings you up to a department store. You kinda have to walk through and get out. If you walk out the front entrance, there are a few steps, but if you go to the side doors, it has a slope to avoid carrying suitcases. It's a straight walk from the station. Unless you are doing day trips, Kyoto city buses are a lot better mode of transport in my opinion."

"Cute place to stay in a spacious mixed dorm. The dorm was well designed with lockers and lots of small shelves next to the bed plus a sink in the room. Bed was a little hard but not terrible. Found the self check-in process very convenient and clearly explained, you have to pay city tax and any extra charges separately before check-out, which you can do online with a qr code or cash if you have the exact amount. Nice to experience a more traditional building in Kyoto. The free rice porridge and teas and coffee was a great bonus. Plenty of convenience shops nearby and right near Kyoto Station. Overall a really relaxing and cosy place to stay!"

"Very satisfied with my last stay, clean and comfortable This time, I felt that the dishwashing staff on the second floor were really busy. I didn't dare to stay for a long time. I felt like they were unhappy. They were like this at night and during the day when the food was being collected... I just happened to be in a good mood. Yeah..but it’s awesome even if the bowl is too loud and the cup is not broken👍"

"It's a bit of a walk from Nishioji Station, so it might be quite tiring if you have luggage. Perhaps because it's a guesthouse converted from an old house, the room smelled a little musty when I entered. Also, the footsteps from the second floor were quite noticeable."

"IKOI-NO-IE is a budget guesthouse in a traditional Japanese style, featuring tatami mats and futons, located in a quiet area near Gojo Station and a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station. Pros: authentic atmosphere, cleanliness, friendly staff. Cons: thin walls and poor soundproofing, firm futons, check-in at a different building, paid luggage storage on check-out day. Suitable for undemanding travelers and those who appreciate authenticity for 1-2 nights."

"We chose this guesthouse based on reviews and were not mistaken. We lived together in a room with separate single beds, there was enough space for two even with unpacked suitcases. The bathroom is small, but clean enough, there are towels, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. The room has a hairdryer, refrigerator, kettle (which is great because there was no kettle in the hotel room in Osaka, which was extremely inconvenient). In the common area there is a microwave and tea bags. On the first floor there is a laundry with free powder. Nice and helpful people work at the reception: upon request, they provided an iron. We also liked the location. Overall, we were pleased with our stay at this guesthouse."
