GGuest UserLocated beside the Kamo River, the scenery is stunning, and the service is impeccable. Thank you Megumi and Shoko for arranging such an unforgettable gift and hospitality. It's a hotel I would definitely stay at again.

Yyoyo0218The room's design is very well-thought-out; you take off your shoes before entering, and it's clean and tidy. There's an openable window, so it doesn't feel cramped like a typical business hotel. The breakfast is quite impressive, even for a high-end Japanese hotel. The popular tempura bar is great when it's fresh out of the fryer, and the menu changes daily. The lounge (pictured in photo 5) is a comfortable place to wait for the shuttle, offering coffee and tea. From 4 PM to 6 PM, alcoholic beverages are available. Enjoying a dark beer while looking out at the view from the window is a truly pleasant experience. I even managed to get one good shot of autumn leaves 🍁 on this trip!

GGuest UserEverything is perfect except the so-called wagyu dinner at the hotel restaurant. While the photo of the menu presents a nice wagyu and you can pre-order as many times as you can within 90 minutes, the beef was served in a very disgusting appearance. It is tough and dark yet it is not done inside. It is definitely not worthy of 7890 yens pax. It was electric grill but not charcoal grill. Anyway, the services provided the waiter, Alan, is brilliant. He was sincere and friendly. The housekeeper, Ms Aina Sao was also deserve my praise. She works with a nice and sincere manner and always put a smile on her face. Also, there are free wine, snacks and beer after 3 pm. You could also grind coffee beans and make yourself a cup of nice coffee. The public bath is not a real onsen. There should be no natural minerals in the water but a slight smell of chlorine. All in all, Hotel Potel is definitely on my list when I visit Kyoto next time.

CChengchengyipianThe hotel entrance isn't huge, but the 4th-floor reception area has a wonderful design with lots of greenery, bringing you closer to nature. It's a really comfortable spot to just sit and relax. The room itself is spacious and comfortable, and importantly, it has a small balcony that lets in natural breezes. Having fresh, circulating air in the room is incredibly important to me. There was a short-haired lady at the front desk who was exceptionally kind and thoughtful. When I checked my luggage, she noticed that what I'd bought was a cream roll and thoughtfully offered to refrigerate it for me. She also gave us a warm farewell when we left. Although I'm not entirely sure if she was trying to communicate with me in Chinese because I couldn't hear very well with her mask on. There are some downsides, though. Even on the 8th floor, I was still bothered by motorcycle noise every night. I'm a light sleeper by nature, so I didn't get good rest those two nights.

GGuest UserExcellent hotel! The location is super convenient, with easy access everywhere. The breakfast was lavish and the ambiance was great. I loved the Blue Bottle coffee downstairs. The lounge was perfect for getting some work done at a large table while enjoying a drink – super comfortable. Best of all, I left some clothes behind, and when I emailed them, they said they could hold onto them for a few years! This will definitely be my go-to hotel whenever I visit Kyoto.

GGuest UserEverything was superb with the one exception, for an onsen hotel that have one of the selling point, in room onsen bath, the water was just regular hot water, why would I need to stay at an onsen hotel with in room onsen bath if any bathtub with hot water would do? Trip.com site did not specify that it wasn’t hot spring water. But luckily there was a better room with actual hot spring water supplied to the room available for upgrade, so I spent the extra to make my stay absolutely perfectly memorable.

TTravelsoloMight be more suitable for first timers or travellers who are into Kiyomizu temple or Gion(both location walkable from hotel) I'm a frequent traveller to Japan/Kyoto thus location does not work well for me but not a deal breaker. Hotel is pretty big as I feel the distance walking from elevator to room, decent size rooms with windows that can be opened for maybe 3 inches(?) Enough pillows and quiet room for good rest and also nice public areas with lotsa greens. Rooms need to be more throughly cleaned though as I found coffee/tea stains on the table top(not acceptable for hotels of this grade) The in room water dispenser is a great idea though. There's a bakery within the hotel itself thats open from breakfast if you are into convenience, delish but there are simply too many good bakeries(or other breakfast places) in Kyoto.

IIRADAEverything was good except the service in hotel restaurants, which was exceptionally bad: 1) breakfast: waited for food for 40 mins, reminded the server 2 times - still nothing; 2) bar: a too long wait for a cocktail. the server said that as apology said cocktail won’t be in included in the bill… but it was there; 3) afternoon tea: told the staff that I dislike dairy products, but have no allergy. So, for example I can eat most sweets, but not the ones with a strong taste of mascarpone cream. In the end they gave me just a plate of fruit and when I remninded them of the above they… did nothing ) I stayed at this hotel and had afternoon tea there last year too - everything was fine then. All of the above are 3 different restaurants inside the hotel, so I wouldn’t recommend going to any restaurant there. In all other aspects except services related to food the hotel is good.

AAnonymous UserFor this price point, all I can say is it's an absolute steal! You can really trust big brands. I'm usually someone who goes from basic to luxurious when choosing hotels, and the day before arriving here, I picked a more budget-friendly option. But this 'budget' hotel was so good, I didn't want to leave! It felt small yet cozy. Plus, there's a bath, and coming back from a morning run to soak in the tub was just heavenly. They even have a bar on the ground floor! Every day before heading out, I'd grab a lollipop or ice cream to kick off my city walk. My family loved it. The location is a bit further out, so walking can be tiring on your feet. After a morning run, we relied on taxis for getting around during the day. I couldn't quite figure out the subway; it seemed like the JR pass wasn't valid. Next time I visit, I plan to stay for an extended period. There's really no need to spend thousands or tens of thousands to stay at those top-tier hotels. I haven't felt particularly pampered or that it was exceptionally good there. For instance, the Park Hyatt is so expensive, primarily for its location. Everything else was just so-so, and the restaurants were incredibly crowded with a strong greasy smell.

SStellaLouWe had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The room was well-furnished, modern and has all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. We like that there is a communal bath in the hotel. The room feels cozy and has a spacious bathroom which was a pleasant addition. We will be recommending this hotel and will make a return in future! (P.S. There’s a curry rice shop 1-2mins walk away from the hotel towards Kyoto station, that is absolutely delicious and affordable and is on our mind till this day!)
