"This hotel is centrally located in Cairns, close to the Esplanade and the Great Barrier Reef departure terminal. It's right next to a large Woolworths supermarket, making shopping incredibly convenient. An Uber from the airport was only about $20. The terrace off the kitchen is fantastic; dining out there in the tropics is just perfect. Each bed has a reading light, a charging outlet, and a privacy curtain, which is very convenient. The shared bathrooms are clean. The indoor air conditioning was too cold. On my first night, someone in the dorm coughed all night, making it impossible to sleep. I ended up having to sleep on the sofa in the common lounge. The only downside was the front desk staff – they were cold and often absent. I checked in at 5 PM, and there was no one there; it was all self check-in via QR code. When I asked staff for help, the most common responses I got were ”I don't know” and ”it's not my responsibility.”"

"The location is fantastic. We arrived very early in the morning, and the front desk was dark with no staff around. After a while, a tour group arrived, and then a staff member came out. The room was spacious, and the breakfast buffet was more affordable than other hotels."

"I stayed here for 3 nights on a solo trip. The reception staff were very kind and lent me towels and a hairdryer. It was also really fun sharing a room with people from various countries, not just tourists, but also those on working holidays looking for jobs. I was a little worried about bugs. Of course, there were small insects flying around outside, but the room and shower room were fine. It was a great trip! Thank you."

"Nice resort, ideal for families or those who want a quieter spot away from the centre. Easy to get to centre by bus or uber. Lots of tour operators will pick up from resort for their activities. Clean rooms with daily housekeeping. Fridge and kettle in room. Bar and simple food available all week. Pizza restaurant Friday til Sunday. 3 nice pools. Very chilled out atmosphere. Would recommend"

"The rooms were clean, but very small with low ceilings. Upon arrival, there was only one small carton of milk in the fridge, perhaps because the room was prepared earlier, for which I'm very grateful to the front desk staff. A big plus is the hotel pool, which has a sandy entrance on one side. However, the pool is shallow, so adults need to be careful not to scrape their feet on the rough bottom. Late check-out is available for an extra fee, which is very convenient if you're traveling with children and have a late flight. The airport is just 10 minutes away. Cairns Aquarium is nearby, and there's a large shopping center three blocks away. The promenade is two blocks away. Overall, it's good value for money, but don't expect perfect cleanliness or service."

"Hides Hotel in Cairns offers exceptional value for money. This century-old hotel has a unique city vibe and is perfectly located in the heart of downtown. It's just a few minutes' walk to the Esplanade, night markets, and the Great Barrier Reef terminal, surrounded by a multitude of restaurants and shops, making getting around incredibly convenient. The guest rooms are clean and tidy, equipped with air conditioning, a mini-fridge, and free Wi-Fi, and the beds are soft and comfortable for a good night's sleep. The front desk staff are warm and helpful and can assist with booking reef tours. The spacious, vintage veranda is perfect for relaxing. It's definitely a top choice for budget travelers, and I'll stay here again next time I'm in Cairns."

"The hotel is a half-hour walk from the city center. We live in a double bedroom with a kitchen, which can be easily cooked. The bed in the room is more comfortable and suitable for family and children. The disadvantage is that it is a little distance from the city center and the pier. Far away, the hotel has a small swimming pool, suitable for children, there is no place to eat around."

"This hotel is centrally located in Cairns, offering excellent access to cafes, restaurants, shopping centers, and the lagoon, all within a 20-minute walk! It was also relatively inexpensive compared to other options in Cairns. The room was clean, and the bathroom facilities were spotless. Regarding amenities, there's no toothbrush provided, so it's a good idea to bring your own. The hotel has a pool, so you can enjoy yourselves on-site. Plus, there's a service where you can skip daily housekeeping for extended stays and receive a 10A$ credit per night, which we used to get free breakfast! There are Japanese-speaking staff members, and everyone was incredibly lovely!"

"I accidentally booked this hotel and found out it was non-cancellable when I tried to cancel, so I had no choice but to stay. Overall, it was okay; the room was a bit small but quite tidy and clean. The front desk staff were very friendly. The restaurant was under renovation during our stay, so we were given vouchers to have breakfast at the hotel across the street. Clearly, for an extra AUD$80 a day, we could have stayed somewhere much better. The hotel hallways had no air conditioning and were very stuffy and hot. However, there was a free coffee machine downstairs with complimentary coffee. The swimming pool looked dirty though, and no one was using it. The location is a bit far from the Reef Terminal, about a 17-minute walk."

"I expected much better from a hotel carrying the Ramada name. We arrived just after midnight, exactly as we had advised the hotel in advance. To our surprise, the entrance gates were locked. There was a phone number on the gate to call for assistance, but despite repeated calls, nobody answered. We could see reception from outside, and could clearly hear the phone ringing, but there was no one there to help. After standing on the roadside for around 15 minutes with two tired children in the middle of the night, I ended up climbing over the locked fence just to unlock the gate from the inside so my family could enter. Once inside, we rang the reception bell several times before anyone appeared. Around 20 minutes later, the receptionist (a gentleman with long hair) eventually arrived. Rather than apologising for leaving a family locked outside at midnight, he simply said he had been ”dealing with something”, that there were ”100 guests and just him”, and told us, ”you need patience.” Those are his exact words. I appreciate that staff can be busy, but this was a complete failure of customer service. An apology would have gone a long way. Instead, we were met with rudeness and a dismissive attitude. It was one of the worst customer service experiences I have encountered. The hotel itself was also disappointing. The photos on the website appear to be either very old or heavily enhanced. The grounds look nothing like the promotional images—there are no palm trees as shown, and the swimming pool sits right beside the car park, giving it a very different feel from what is advertised. The one major positive is the location. It's within easy walking distance of the city centre, which was extremely convenient. Unfortunately, because of the poor customer service on arrival and the misleading impression created by the website photos, I would not choose to stay here again"
