Macau to Zhuhai: Crossing the Border on Foot
Walking across the border is the easiest and most popular option. Simply head to Macau's Border Gate (Portas do Cerco) by public bus, taxi, or hotel shuttle bus. After clearing Macau immigration, you'll walk directly into Zhuhai through Gongbei Port.

This hotel is super convenient! Downstairs, there are tons of places to eat, grab coffee, get a massage, and shop. Everything you need for daily life and entertainment is right there. The room itself gets plenty of sunlight, and the AC is super strong—it can go down to 16 degrees! The only issue was that the drain in the shower seemed a bit clogged. I stayed for two nights. The first shower was fine, but after coming back in from the heat, I took another shower, and the drain clogged up, with water spilling out towards the bathroom door. I immediately called the front desk, and they promptly sent a cleaning lady and a plumber to fix it. They also offered two days of complimentary breakfast as an apology. I really appreciate their excellent service and attitude. I would definitely come back to stay again.From€ 47

🗺️ Our Lazy First Day Itinerary in Zhuhai
• Arrival & Check-in: The hotel is at No. 28 Shuiwan Road, Gongbei, super close to the border crossing. We hopped out of the car and were checked in within seconds. This time, I specifically chose a family-themed room. The room was very spacious with one 2-meter wide bed and one 1.2-meter wide bed, giving us plenty of room with the little one. Although the side window offered views of the bustling city and a partial sea view, it was wonderfully quiet and not facing the street. The family room also thoughtfully provided kids' toothbrushes, slippers, and toys – full marks for attention to detail! It met all the essential needs for families with children.
• Hotel Fun: In the afternoon, we went straight to the heated pool and indoor kids' play area on the 5th floor. The water quality was clean, and there were staff supervising, so the kids played wildly for two hours.
• Dinner Delight: In the evening, we took the elevator up to the 'Wan Yue Xuan Seafood Restaurant' on the 22nd floor – this is where the real 'king's view' is! The floor-to-ceiling windows offered a direct view of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. We enjoyed delicious Cantonese cuisine while admiring the bridge's night scenery.
• Seaside Stroll: After sunset, we headed to Binhai Park / Lovers' Road. The sea breeze blew away all our fatigue, and watching the distant bridge tower lights was super chill. The kids even got to build sandcastles.
• Breakfast Power-up: With both Western and Chinese options, plus Cantonese dim sum, we filled up early before heading out.

Traveling to Macao and Zhuhai with kids, I chose the La Mecca Hotel mainly because of its proximity to the Gongbei Port, which makes getting around incredibly convenient. When I moved the bedside table upon check-in, I found some food waste left behind by a previous guest underneath it. It was in a hidden spot, so I don't blame the housekeeping staff at all; I completely understand.
After reporting it to the front desk, the front desk manager responded very quickly and offered a solution immediately. When we returned from dinner, the room had already been re-cleaned. The efficiency was impressive, definitely a thumbs up! 👍
The buffet breakfast on the second floor was decent. During breakfast, I wanted a banana, but it wasn't available at the counter. After mentioning it to a handsome young man in a black suit who was working there, he immediately went into the kitchen to check and quickly brought me one. The service experience was excellent.
A small suggestion: I hope the hotel can discuss with their supplier to replace the coffee machines. The current machines lack basic coffee functions like Cappuccino and Latte.
If I visit Zhuhai again, La Mecca Hotel will still be my top choice!From€ 45

I booked a business room, which wasn't much more expensive, but it came with two floor-to-ceiling corner windows offering an expansive view. I could see everything from Zhuhai Station and Gongbei Port all the way to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. The room layout and bathroom design were superb, making for an excellent stay. Had a seamless check-in at the Hyatt Hotel suite... There were executive lounge snacks in the afternoon... Checked in early in the afternoon... This classic brand is worth it all... Plus a pool... The kids couldn't wait to use the pool, and the indoor pool even had a bubble rest area... Went for an outdoor swim in the afternoon... It was amazing, the sea breeze was so refreshing... We booked the Spaceship Room, which had a large bed for adults and a separate single bed for a child, making it quite suitable for families with older kids. The entire room design was full of clever little touches, and the submarine-themed elevator was a hit with the kids – the design details were really well thought out. The room's cleanliness was generally good.
The hotel staff were very enthusiastic and accommodating. The lobby had fun submarine-themed amusement facilities and performances. There were also paid dress-up and dining options. The blue-shirt and white-dress bosses, who refreshed at irregular intervals, could give out shiny cards that could be exchanged for gifts, offering many surprises. There was a convenience store and a gift shop in the lobby, making shopping easy, and they offered paid gift delivery services to your home. I also noticed a small indoor children's play area at the lobby bar. There were many interesting activities like check-ins, stamp collecting, and card collecting.
Regarding the Spaceship Park, it was very convenient to enter directly from the lobby by taking the elevator if you purchased a package or an additional ticket. We entered at 9 AM and first saw the submarine. The first Bermuda show was at 9:30 AM, so after seeing the submarine, we didn't have to wait long for the show, which had great effects and was very engaging. When we got tired, we could easily go back to our room to rest, which is very kid-friendly. I recommend staying at the Spaceship Hotel if you plan to visit Spaceship Park.
Another great point was the excellent in-room delivery service; the food arrived quickly, tasted good, and had no extra service charge. Of course, ordering external restaurant delivery was also convenient, as you could just pick it up at the designated spot.
Getting to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom was also convenient. You could take the elevator down from the North Wing of the lobby, exit directly to the shuttle bus station, and arrive in about five minutes. The rooftop infinity pool had closed for the day when we saw it, but I hope to try it next time, as some reviews say it offers a beautiful view of the fireworks show.From€ 121

Traveling to Macao and Chimelong with my family, we decided to stay at the Xiangjiang Vick Hotel, and it was a fantastic experience. At this price point, it definitely deserves a 5-star rating! The transportation is incredibly convenient; it's close to Gongbei Port, about a 15-minute walk, or you can take a bus right outside for just two stops, making border crossing to Macao super easy. For Zhuhai Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, I recommend taking a Didi (ride-sharing app), which costs around 30-40 yuan. We spent half a day strolling and digging in the sand by the beach, which was absolutely delightful. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, and the hotel-recommended traditional dim sum place was delicious. Plus, it's only a few minutes' drive to the high-speed train station and Zhuhai Airport terminal, making it perfect whether you're catching a train or a flight. The room layout is well-designed, spacious, and comfortable, and it even has a bathtub – a relaxing soak after a long day was wonderful. The hotel service was also excellent; the housekeeping auntie was kind and friendly, and the front desk staff were great too, even giving us a small gift at check-out. Relating to all reviews, the place is old and hasn't been redecorated for donkeys. The lobby is huge and hardly a lot of crowds, aka people waiting around. It's so China old-fashioned and hardly hotel-feeling. The exterior is falling apart and could do with a touch-up, but nighttime looks better than daytime. The beds are super soft, but the bathroom was kinda of weird that it was transparent to the whole sleeping area. I think the breakfast buffet wasn't worth eating at all! Everything had no meat in it, no juices; only tea or soya milk, boiled eggs and some rice noodles which you cook yourself. I'd expect at least some sausages, toast, and orange juice, at least. Bringing my family to Chimelong Zhuhai, we chose the Hengqin Bay Hotel and had a truly comfortable vacation. The hotel's castle-like exterior is very distinctive, and the entire resort is built by the sea, with gardens and water features complementing each other, creating a fantastic ambiance. What we loved most were the hotel's own recreational facilities; even without going to Ocean Kingdom, you can still have a fulfilling time within the hotel itself.
The Dolphin Encounter was a favorite spot for the whole family. Watching the dolphins swim freely through the floor-to-ceiling glass was captivating and delightful for both adults and children. Flamingo Island is hidden within the gardens, where groups of flamingos live peacefully. The environment is serene, and a leisurely stroll to observe and take photos was very pleasant. The Water World experience was superb; the indoor heated area had a comfortable temperature, so even young children could play safely. The outdoor lazy river, wave pool, and white sand beach offered great fun. When we got tired, we could return to our room in just a few steps, saving us the hassle of traveling back and forth.
Transportation to Ocean Kingdom was thoughtfully arranged, with frequent free shuttle buses providing direct service to the park in a short amount of time. The hotel pier also offers an exclusive yacht service (for a fee) for water entry to the park, with beautiful scenery along the way, making it a unique experience.
The room we stayed in was spacious, warmly decorated, and spotlessly clean, with comfortable bedding and a wide-open view from the balcony. The hotel amenities are comprehensive, with various restaurants catering to different tastes and a rich selection for breakfast. The staff provided attentive and appropriate service; check-in was smooth, and any issues we raised were addressed promptly. I think this is a good hotel. But it’s really out-of-the-way. It’s in a very quiet neighborhood though, so I like that it’s not noisy at night. I really like how comfortable the king size bed was. It’s pretty clean as well, but some of the furniture is old. There is a slight moldy smell  in the room because they gave me a smoker’s room.  I just slept with the window open. Overall, I think this is a good hotel, but I just prefer a more modern look. From€ 23

People always compare Macau to Las Vegas, but let me tell you right now: Macau and the hotels on the Cotai ***** are in a league of their own. Having been to Vegas a few dozen times, I’m used to hotels feeling smoky and chaotic. This was the exact opposite.
We took the free, direct Parisian shuttle bus straight from the Macau Port, and from the moment we arrived to the time we checked in, everything was incredibly smooth and organized. I can't even imagine what a seamless experience like this would cost in Vegas.
To top it off, they gave us a complimentary upgrade to an Eiffel Tower view room absolutely stunning! We were already loving the service. Plus, as a fantastic perk, hotel guests get free access to the Eiffel Tower deck, which was an awesome bonus. The room was immaculate; my wife immediately noticed how spotless the all-Italian marble bathroom was. From the registration hall to the lobby, the fine paintings and decor feel ultra-premium.
The main reason I picked this hotel was for the kids' pool and water slides. Vegas isn't exactly built for kids, but The Parisian makes families feel so welcome. The pool area was amazingly fun, and with lifeguards stationed everywhere, it was clear that safety is their number one priority.
Another huge perk is that it's connected to the other Sands hotels like The Venetian and The Londoner. You can walk from hotel to hotel without ever stepping outside, giving you access to endless high-end luxury shops and incredible restaurants. On top of that, the hotel offers free shuttle services to all the popular tourist destinations around the city, like Senado Square, making sightseeing incredibly easy and budget-friendly.
Given how amazing the experience was, you'd think it would cost an arm and a leg. But visiting in July, it was incredibly affordable roughly the same price as staying at a decent hotel off the ***** in Vegas.

The hotel has many facilities, but they are also very expensive. To use the water park, you have to pay an extra 500 per person, and breakfast isn't cheap either. If you factor in breakfast, the water park, and the Ferris wheel, it comes out to over 4,000 per room. For the amenities provided, it really isn't worth it. The room felt a bit old, the carpet had an odor, and the bathroom was quite dated with low water pressure, making showers less than comfortable. The decorative items on the bar counter were covered in two layers of dust. The only good thing was the complimentary snacks. If you're going to the water park, you might consider this hotel, otherwise, I honestly wouldn't recommend it. This hotel doesn't have a free indoor pool. If you find the water park expensive and still want to swim, the hotel next door has one. This hotel offers great value for money, with an excellent location. Most attractions and other hotels are within a 15-minute walk. The Ruins of St. Paul's might be a bit further, but it's still an easy walk. The room was spacious and new, with complete facilities. Although the breakfast didn't have as many options as a five-star hotel, it met business hotel standards. The staff were also very enthusiastic. A special shout-out to the two bellboys, Terry Ye and David Yang, who helped call a taxi and even actively assisted with luggage, which many five-star hotels don't do. The hotel's overall service was quite good, especially the three staff members whose names were on the business card – they were warm and attentive. It's less than a twenty-minute taxi ride from the airport to the hotel, costing around 100 [currency]. It's also very close to the Border Gate. The hotel's shuttle bus conveniently goes to the Border Gate and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. If you walk through the hotel to the street behind, there's a bus stop not far away. There are also restaurants, Mannings, cosmetic shops, and mini-supermarkets nearby, which is quite convenient. There's some construction near the hotel recently, and the hotel even provided earplugs, but we didn't need them as there was no construction noise at night. The air conditioning in the room was always on, making it quite humid. While it might be good for the skin, the bedding and hanging clothes felt damp, which wasn't very comfortable.From€ 62

After constantly checking for availability, I finally managed to book a room at the Galaxy Hotel, and immediately cancelled my reservation at Andaz! 😂 Galaxy Hotel was definitely my top choice. This hotel was recommended by a friend, and as soon as I entered the lobby, it had a grand, opulent feel. Check-in was smooth, and I opted for the Alipay deposit of 500 RMB, which was convenient to unfreeze myself upon check-out. I booked a family suite; the room size was decent, and the toiletries were good. The room was carpeted, which seemed a bit old. Breakfast was just average. There's a bus stop right outside the hotel with many routes. I recommend preparing your Macau bus QR code in Alipay before traveling abroad; last time, I just scanned it, and Alipay deducted 5.02 RMB directly, which was very cost-effective. You can also follow the bus stop announcements on WeChat mini-programs.
I wouldn't recommend taking taxis. On my first day, I hadn't planned my bus routes, and a taxi from the hotel to the Venetian cost an astonishing 95 RMB – I felt ripped off. When returning to the hotel from the Venetian, I was worried about the driver taking a longer route and overcharging, so I specifically turned on navigation. Sure enough, twice when we were almost there, the navigation showed we were off route. The second time the navigation deviated and recalculated, I asked the driver if he was taking a detour. He claimed my navigation was inaccurate. I turned up the navigation volume to maximum, and perhaps because I questioned him, the driver didn't dare to detour further. The taxi fare back to the hotel was 79 RMB.
This was my first time bringing my elderly parents to Macau, and I thought taxis would be more convenient. I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid, or if taxis genuinely cost this much, but in any case, spending so much on taxis felt very unreasonable. That's why I researched bus routes after returning to the hotel, and I offer this advice for everyone's reference.From€ 39

This was my first trip to Macau with my high school-aged child. Getting here was a bit tricky. We took the Grand Lisboa shuttle bus, but after getting off, it was a hassle walking to the hotel with luggage because we had to climb a long, steep slope. The public bus would have involved a shorter walk.
On the plus side, Guia Park is not far from the hotel, and the mini cable car there only costs 3 patacas. There are also plenty of convenient places nearby for breakfast.From€ 42

This hotel is perfect for a family trip to Macau with kids! It was too hot during the day to go shopping, so we just went for a swim to cool off before heading out again. The kids weren't bored and didn't spend all their time watching TV in the room. The pool was clean and the service was excellent!
We arrived before 9 AM and were pleasantly surprised when they immediately checked us into our room! Even though we only stayed one night, it was great value for money and a wonderful experience. The breakfast was also very good. We'd definitely want to come back to this hotel.
The main purpose of this trip was to take the kids to see the Ruins of St. Paul's, the Grand Prix Museum, and the Science Center, and the hotel's location was just perfect for that.From€ 47

The hotel is within walking distance of the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, which takes around 15–20 minutes even with luggage. There’s also a nearby public bus stop that provides convenient access to the Cotai area. The housekeeping staff were friendly as well.

I was very satisfied with my stay this time, with the only issue being the lack of markings for the hot and cold water in the bathroom. My relatives and friends didn't know which taps were for hot and cold water. It was especially difficult for the elderly to adjust the water temperature for showering, so they ended up showering with cold water. It was our anniversary and Gary at reception offered us a lte check out since we arrived at the hotel quite late. We were also upgraded together with a free red wine as our gift and we were thrilled and we were further offered 2 complimentary breakfast althought we didn't use att the end. I found out that I didn't take my airpods with me at the time when I checked out and we went to lunch. I came back and then 2 receptionists helped me out and called the room to bring it back down even after checkout, I m so pleased by the services Ascott provided me and to us.
