I just wanna say huge thanks to the fo during cny 17/2 we checkin, forgot her name but shes malay wearing scarf bawal a little bit tembam and cute! She was so kind and patient to arrange our request for birthday deco in our room, she apologized for not noticing my notes on the booking but its okay! Love the ambience of the hotel! Overall it was very nice! Will repeat on staying here next time!
Room is clean BUT random ants seen here & there. Asked for a room change but was told by the staffs that other rooms may have the same issues too as they have many complains from other guests on this problem too, was told because of the rain recently, ants somehow moved their homes. >< Ended up we didn’t change the room as we worried other rooms will have more ants! Sighh.. Throughout our stay, we had to bare with it seeing ants crawling every now & then which was uncomfortable . There are 2 hair dryers provided which is very thoughtful. 1 in the toilet the other in the cupboard ( higher watts ) which is good for long / thick hair. Many hooks to hang our clothes in the toilet. Staffs are very friendly & helpful too.
The hotel's location is great, within walking distance to all attractions in the center of Georgetown. The rooms are clean and tidy, but the breakfast selection isn't very rich. The front desk staff could be a bit more enthusiastic. Parking can be a bit tight; if you come back late, you might struggle to find a spot. Otherwise, everything else was quite good.
The location of Loop on Leith strikes a near-perfect balance.
Although the hotel sits close to the lively Lebuh Chulia, it is cleverly tucked away along Leith Street. Chulia Street is a hub for backpackers and nightlife, so evenings can get noisy. By setting itself slightly inward, Loop on Leith neatly avoids the brunt of street noise, while still placing you just a four-minute walk from the iconic Blue Mansion (Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion), where you can easily begin your street food adventure.
Its positioning works as an ideal base for urban exploration. Head north and you’ll find the refined charm of the heritage district; head south and you step straight into the vibrant pulse of the city center.
The hotel embraces an Urban Chic concept, deliberately doing away with traditional heavy carpeting—a smart choice in a tropical climate, as it helps reduce mustiness and allergens. Instead, modern hard flooring and bright lighting create a space that feels noticeably fresher and cleaner, both visually and physically, compared to older Peranakan-style hotels in the same price range.
Rooms here tend to be on the smaller side. For two guests traveling with large luggage, the space can feel a bit tight. It’s best suited for travelers who spend most of their day বাইরে exploring and simply want a comfortable place to rest at night—think light packers or efficiency-focused “urban explorers.”
At roughly RM250 per night, Loop on Leith delivers a boutique-like aesthetic and standardized service at a budget hotel price point. The value-for-money and overall sense of comfort are impressive.
It lacks the heavy, sometimes oppressive atmosphere of heritage buildings, and also avoids the blandness of chain hotels. This makes it especially appealing to young couples, solo travelers, or business visitors.
If you’re looking for a spacious executive suite, this may not be the right choice. But if your priorities are efficiency, cleanliness, and stepping straight into great food and scenery the moment you walk out, it stands out as a smart option in George Town’s mid-range market.
For an even better stay, consider requesting a higher-floor room—it offers a slightly more open view and helps buffer early morning street noise from passing motorcycles.
The environment and hygiene are excellent. There are many attractions and great food nearby, making it very convenient. Staying on a high floor also offers a nice view of the surroundings.
This is the best value backpacker hostel in Penang, and it even has a swimming pool! It's my top choice in Penang, especially since it's located in the heritage area of the city, making it super convenient to get around. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby.
The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, providing a relaxing environment after a long day. Housekeeping did a good job, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel felt calm and welcoming.
Superb location, close to so many well known eateries. Rapid bus is at hostel doorstep to commute to various places of interests. Capsule bed is enclosed by concrete wall and you wouldn't hear movements on the top bed. Air conditioning and hot showers are strong. There are many lounges to rest and relax and love the Peranakan ambience of the hostel. Staff are nice and helpful and love that the towels are of the reputable hotel quality and are changed once every 2 days. A bottle of drinking water given everyday by the housekeeper.
The staff were courteous and professional, and check-in and check-out were smooth. Amenities were adequate and met expectations for a comfortable stay.
The centerpiece of this hotel is a square Zen garden, with a rectangular open sky roof that lets rain in to nourish the plants indoors. This very much adds to the relaxing ambience of the place.
One of the best places to hang out at this sizeable hotel is at the commons, where there are comfy leather couches, a TV, a fridge, a water dispenser, an ironing board and also worth mentioning a bookshelf filled with books and board games. It is open for all registered hotel guests to use, and is nicely equipped and furnished.
Working shower with heater. Also, clean toilet. I recommended place to stay for solo travelers or with friends.
I liked this hotel very much. If you stay for three days, the hotel provides laundry service. I would happily stay again
Overall, it was a excellent experience, and I would consider staying here again in the future.
Parking available in front of the hotel. Room was clean. Price less than RM200 and room got bathtub. The weakness is only that the sink is outside the bathroom. And you can hear next door room watching TV and when they use their sink. Overall was satisfied for 1 night stay only.
U Hotel Penang is a convenient and comfortable hotel, especially suitable for business travellers, visitors to Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), and guests attending activities in the Bayan Lepas area. The hotel’s strategic location provides easy access to eateries, convenience stores, and key transport routes, making it a practical choice for short stays.
The rooms are clean, modern, and efficiently designed, offering essential amenities such as comfortable bedding, reliable air-conditioning, and stable Wi-Fi. Despite being a compact hotel, the rooms are well-maintained and provide a pleasant environment for rest. The housekeeping standards are generally good, ensuring a tidy and comfortable stay.
Staff members are friendly, professional, and responsive, helping to create a welcoming atmosphere. The check-in and check-out processes are usually smooth and efficient, which is appreciated by travellers with tight schedules.
Location around 1.5 km away from many tourist attractions, like upside museum, UNESCO heritage sites etc.. we had to grab taxi everytime. There is a pool on 1st floor, big enough for children to swim around. Its from 7 am to 7 pm. But to be honest, it could be until 9 pm, kind of strict rules. Check-in counter staff was not that welcoming / nor smile, neither kind words/ But cleaning staff and security was kind, smiling every time as we enter the hotel.
i had a wonderful stay at Bishop Hotel in Georgetown, Penang. the location is absolutely perfect — right in the heart of the UNESCO heritage area, within walking distance to popular attractions, street art, cafes, and amazing local food spots. it made exploring Georgetown so convenient and enjoyable.
the room was cozy, clean, and very comfortable. perfect for relaxing after a full day of sightseeing. everything was well-maintained, and the bed was especially comfortable for a good night’s rest.
overall, Bishop Hotel is a great choice for anyone looking for a centrally located stay with cozy, comfortable rooms in Georgetown. iwould definitely stay here again!

GGuest UserThe location is nearby kek lock si temple and penang hill very good for me to stay. The room also nice but I saw the ant and they give one cup to drink for coffee. Thanks
EEddy IwantoroThe location of the hotel is quite strategic, near food centers scattered along the Macalister road. The room itself was clean. The room we got, the twin bed room was spacious, 22 meter square. The front office staff were friendly.

AAnonymous User2nd time stayed in this hotel! Perfect location, walkable distance to famous breakfast Toh Soon cafe (old shop).
Highly recommended! Room was clean and quite spacious!
There are swimming pool and gym room but too bad we have no time to use these facilities 😂
overall very good 👍🏻👍🏻
HHaniff AMI recently stayed at this hotel and had a very pleasant experience overall. From the moment I arrived, the staff were friendly, welcoming, and quick to assist with check-in. The lobby was clean and well-decorated, creating a great first impression.
The room itself was spacious, comfortable, and tidy. The bed was especially cozy, and I appreciated the small details like complimentary water, toiletries, and reliable Wi-Fi. Housekeeping did a great job maintaining cleanliness throughout my stay.
One of the highlights was the hotel’s location, which made it easy to access nearby attractions, restaurants, and transport options. The breakfast provided was also satisfying, with a decent variety of choices to suit different tastes.
There were a few minor drawbacks, such as slight noise from the hallway at times and limited parking space, but these did not significantly affect my overall stay.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient place to stay. I would definitely consider coming back in the future.
AAlfred MubarackNice hotel in Chulia street, near to a few bars and restaurants, nice night scene. The room was very spacious, there was a window but don't expect much as it's facing the alleyway. Plenty of parking for hotel guests. I'd return
GGuest UserThe hotel is quite good overall. The room is a bit small but still comfortable, clean, and nicely designed. The air conditioning works very well and cools down quickly, even though the weather in Penang is quite hot. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The only downside is that the location is a bit far from the old town. I personally enjoy walking, so it wasn’t an issue for me. In return, the area is very quiet and close to a local market with plenty of delicious and affordable food options.
VViolettangtangThis hotel is centrally located in George Town, Penang, within walking distance of the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, Fire Station, Toh Soon Cafe, City Hall, hawker centers, and the street art. It's housed in a charming colonial-era building. There aren't many rooms, which makes it quite peaceful. The rooms are well-equipped and decorated in a comfortable, warm palette. Be aware that a heritage tax is applied upon check-in. However, the service staff seems to be understaffed, and the customer service line is often unreachable. Things promised by the staff can take over half an hour to be completed.
TTini88We were a bit nervous after reading the reviews online but we had a really excellent stay. The rooms were super clean and modern with a beautiful sea view and the bed was really comfortable. The rooms had a kettle with teas, a hairdryer and iron and the shower was lovely and hot. Great AC too. The pool was lovely with a beautiful view of the sea and very nice and peaceful. The location was also great with a huge food market right opposite. Overall a really lovely stay
