Every breath here brings a sense of relaxation, so characteristic of Datong. The service is attentive but never intrusive. On this trip, after leaving my job, I've stayed in many places, but Datong was the most surprising city. It's full of historical sites, delicious food, and a vibrant, down-to-earth atmosphere. But what surprised me even more was the guesthouse I chose. I did extensive research and ultimately decided to stay within the ancient city, which turned out to be incredibly convenient for dining, lodging, and getting around. It was fantastic and perfectly suited me. Initially, I considered guesthouses in the Southeast District, but they were all new, and their styles were quite similar and unremarkable, much like guesthouses in other cities. So, I picked one with unique traditional Chinese characteristics, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was exactly to my liking – nutritious and light. The room was warm and cozy, and the toiletry kit was amazing, with thoughtful items inside. Even though it's been in the ancient city for ten years, the decor and renovation show no sign of age; it's incredibly well-maintained. The housekeeper mentioned they had just upgraded all the rooms before my arrival, haha! 😄 This guesthouse truly helped my restless mind calm down. It felt like staying in a museum. The aunties and housekeepers working here told me stories about every single object and corner, which deeply moved me. This is what a guesthouse should be – unpretentious and full of stories. The biggest surprise this time was having the chance to meet the owner, a wonderful lady. She was so nice, I initially thought she was just another staff member; she had absolutely no airs. More importantly, her experiences and background are incredible – she does extreme sports and has even climbed Mount Everest! Talking with her made me feel so comfortable and helped me let go of a lot of things. Thank you for the encounter; it was truly destiny. This was the most unexpected gain from my trip to Datong, and I will definitely go back if I get the chance! It felt just like home, with no sense of unfamiliarity whatsoever.

Staying at Pingchengfu truly makes you feel like you're living within the very fabric of Datong. The location is superb, right in the Southeast City Historical and Cultural District. Step outside and you're greeted by the vibrant street life of ancient brick and tile alleyways. Just a short walk takes you to the Drum Tower and Shanhua Temple. Strolling through the ancient city at night, feeling the breeze of the Northern Wei Dynasty – that immersive experience is something chain hotels simply can't offer. This guesthouse is a renovated old courtyard, retaining the authentic charm of Northern Shanxi residences while offering modern and comfortable interiors. Smart toilets, high-quality linens – everything is provided, and there's none of the damp, cold feeling you might expect from an old house. I really have to commend the owner's thoughtfulness. We stayed for three nights, but hadn't booked the same room type for all of them. I was prepared to switch rooms and move my luggage midway through, but to my surprise, the owner proactively upgraded us to a better room, so we didn't have to move once during our three-day stay. When you're traveling, not having to pack and unpack your luggage is such a blessing. This kind of consideration for the guest's experience is incredibly heartwarming. The service is also beyond reproach. They added us on WeChat beforehand and sent detailed local guides, which helped us avoid many potential pitfalls. When we left, they even gave us local specialty souvenirs. This sincere and warm hospitality truly touches your heart. If I had one minor suggestion, it would be that the steps in the old house make it a bit inconvenient to carry luggage. However, this small drawback pales in comparison to the tranquility of the courtyard and the starry night sky. Next time I come to Datong, I will definitely stay here again.

The rooms and bedding are up to the usual Intercity standard, which is fine. However, the service was really poor. To be honest, I stayed for two nights; the first night was over 700 yuan, and the second was over 600 yuan. I understand it's a holiday, but for that price, I expect at least the same level of service as a normal season hotel like All Seasons or Crystal, which cost only 200-300 yuan. Instead, I paid that much and still had to put up with the front desk's attitude. I checked in on the afternoon of the 19th. The oldest lady at the front desk – why should I have to deal with her attitude when I'm paying to stay here? I had already specified in my booking not to have a room at either end of the hallway, but she assigned me one right next to the elevator. She told me it was an upgrade, and I initially agreed. But after being in the room for a minute, I was so worried about the noise that I went back down to tell her I didn't want the upgrade and preferred a standard room, as long as it wasn't at either end. Her face immediately dropped, and she started ignoring me, refusing to talk to me. She then had a younger girl help me. That's when I realized the room I originally booked wasn't available. After waiting a while, they finally found another room at the other end of the hall, at least not right next to the elevator. I just accepted it. The next night, she was on the night shift. They were all sitting there, laughing and chatting, I don't know what they were doing. I went over and asked if the bar's beer was drinkable. One staff member told me it was out of order, even though the day before, we both heard another guest being told it was fine to drink. I thought I'd just try it out once since I was checking out the next morning. It was very disappointing. I've stayed at Intercity hotels in other cities before, and the service was never like this. It's a holiday, and I understand you're busy. But I've paid good money, so why do I have to put up with your attitude? Oh, and when I checked out, another staff member took my room card without even looking up. She asked how my stay was, and I said it was okay. She just said 'good' and that was it, still without looking up. They didn't even offer a bottle of water, let alone a farewell. Oh, and the second day we went out, the cleaning staff who tidied our room didn't restock the drinks in the fridge. I called the front desk, and they said they'd bring them up. A little while later, the cleaning staff knocked on the door and said they forgot to put them in. Throughout all this, no one seemed apologetic, and I didn't even get an 'I'm sorry.' In the bathroom, the sensor light was full of dust, and there was something black on the round hole above the sink, I don't know what it was. I found it disgusting. I saw it as soon as I looked down and wiped it off myself.

This was my first time in Datong, and this hotel left me with an excellent impression of the city! The service was superb. Zhao Qingnan at the front desk was beautiful, kind, and provided wonderful service. Seeing that I had a child with me, she upgraded me to a twin room and even thoughtfully gave my child a complimentary breakfast, which was very nice. Everyone I encountered at the hotel was warm and friendly. The security guard in the underground parking lot was especially patient and kept helping me direct my car. The hotel breakfast was also very generous.

I absolutely loved this hotel! Not only were the rooms and bedding comfortable and the shower water hot, but I have to give a special shout-out to the breakfast. The hotel clearly has extensive experience hosting international guests, and their breakfast selections truly catered to Western palates. My children, born and raised in the UK, had been struggling with food for a few days in Shanxi. Upon arriving at this hotel, they were thrilled to find not only cereal but also baked beans for breakfast, just like a proper English breakfast! For a Chinese hotel to be so incredibly thoughtful and considerate was genuinely moving! The hotel even paid attention to the smallest details, offering a choice of hot and cold milk – that's truly excellent! Every morning, I enjoyed breakfast with a heart full of gratitude.

This stay truly exceeded my expectations! The room was incredibly spacious, with plenty of room to move around – even with two large suitcases open, it didn't feel cramped at all. I wasn't really expecting a hotel gym, but it turned out to be a fantastic surprise! The space was open and not crowded, with a full range of cardio and strength equipment, all brand new and spotless. I didn't have to wait for any machines when I worked out in the evening, which meant I could stick to my routine even while traveling for business. I'll definitely stay here again next time!

The hotel receptionists and manager were very welcoming and proactively introduced the hotel facilities to guests. If you don't want to go out in the evening, there's also a Chinese restaurant. Special praise goes to Aunt Jia, who cleaned the rooms; she was incredibly warm and meticulous, keeping everything tidy.

The Wenyin Xijing Hotel is quite large, consisting of two buildings, Block A and Block B. It's surrounded by Wenyin Lake, offering a great environment. The service is excellent, and parking within the premises is convenient. The rooms are spacious and comfortable to stay in.
