GGuest UserThe best stay I’ve ever had in my entire life — and trust me, I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels and B&Bs. ;)
The rooms are gorgeous, spotless, and super comfortable, with great attention to detail — everything I could possibly need (and more!) was provided. The bathroom even had a Dyson hair dryer, a Kohler heated automatic toilet, and a Hansgrohe faucet! If you’re not familiar with these brands, just know they’re the best you can get. The location is convenient for reaching downtown Datong and various points of interest… but honestly, these technical aspects — which alone would already deserve a 10-star rating — pale in comparison to the warmth and kindness we received from the B&B owners.
My friends and I truly felt at home, pampered by Ben, the guy who runs the place with such care and attention to his guests that I’ve never experienced anywhere else (not even in 5-star hotels!). He and his sister picked us up at the station — both speak excellent English (which is not something you can take for granted in China) — and they recommended amazing local restaurants, must-see attractions, and even welcomed us with a lovely gift package of local specialties.
For breakfast, Ben’s mother prepared a rich and delicious traditional meal, and for our train trip she even packed homemade bread for us to take along!
Datong is a charming city, and if you visit, you absolutely have to stay here!!!

11367588****As a luxury hotel enthusiast, I'm absolutely blown away by this randomly chosen B&B – I really nailed it, haha! This is hands down the best B&B in Datong Ancient City! The location is absolutely fantastic, within walking distance to Huayan Temple and Gulou East Street, and you step right out onto bluestone paths and under red lanterns. Hygiene is top-notch, the bedding is soft, and it's well soundproofed. The housekeeper sent a super detailed guide in advance, covering everything from dining to accommodation and transportation, and even offered free pick-up and drop-off from the station. The traditional courtyard design is charming and full of Zen, and both the rooms and public areas are wonderfully designed – it's so comfortable you won't want to leave. For just over 500 RMB, what more could you ask for? If you're coming to Datong, just book this place without hesitation! Choosing to visit Datong during the off-season was perfect: amazing weather, uncrowded attractions, tons of great food, and this fantastic B&B. I absolutely love Datong!

GGuest UserThis hotel combines the convenience of modern high tech with the spiritual beauty of traditional culture. The rooms themselves are constructed around courtyards that give a sense of what life might have been like in Datong many centuries ago. In the lobby and in the rooms, murals decorate the walls with elegant designs of birds or flowers. The cabinets, bench, and floors made of wood and the countertops made of marble work together well and draw on design choices that are classicly, universally appealing. At the same time, the entire room is wired with the amenties of modernity. The toilet has a seat warmer and a light that turns on when you lift the lid so that you can find it in the middle of the night. Similarly, there seem to be motion-sensitive lights throughout the room that light up when you walk in the middle of the night so that you can find your way around. The water in the shower and the bathtub is able to get very hot (which I love!) and has high pressure. There is also a top-of-the-line hair dryer. It's the perfect blend of high tech and traditional amenities! If I have one complaint it's that the room was so hot that I had to open my window to let in the freezing air, and still the room was hot! That shows how effective the heating system is!
The serivce at the hotel is also extraordinary! All the members of hotel reception are very friendly. And they send someone to your room shortly after you settle in to give you a platter of fruit, which was fresh and seasonal and artistically chosen it seems. They also have 24 hours service in case you need anything. My friend went into the lobby early in the morning shouting about coffee, and the staff came out quickly to make him a cup.
The hotel is also very clean. The blankets, the pillows, and the sheets are as white as snow. The floors are free of dust and dirt and smudges. Everything in the shower and toilet room was scrubbed clean too. And the shower drains smoothly without pooling any water, showing how well it is maintained.
Finally, the location is very convenient. You can see that for yourself by just looking at the map. But I would like to add that just outside the gate of the hotel, you can see the Prince's palace, which is beautifully lit at night. What's more, my favorite restaurant in downtown Datong (I think the restaurant is translated as BeiWei Family Garden or something like that) is less than 5 minutes walking from the gate. There are also multiple shops for buying vinegar or wine or shaji snacks. In less than 10 minutes, you can also walk to all the major commercial streets. I love the location of this hotel!

KKatrin SauthoffMy husband and I are a couple from Germany. We booked two nights there, and our decision was absolutely the right one. From the initial contact (via the WeChat app, which is essential for your entire trip to China) to our departure, everything was perfect. We were picked up from the train station by car and taken to the hotel free of charge. This is especially good for Western tourists who don't speak Chinese. The first problem would have been explaining to the taxi where we wanted to go. The lobby and rooms are very beautiful, stylish, and equipped with the highest technology. Most of the guest rooms face the inner courtyard, so you can sleep very quietly and comfortably. The beds are very large and comfortable. The hotel's location is excellent. It's located on the northern edge of the Ancient City of Datong, just a few minutes' walk from the tourist attractions and the colorful and lively old town. So you can enjoy it without being disturbed by noise. I would especially like to emphasize the friendliness of the staff. Unfortunately, we don't speak Chinese, and the staff didn't speak English, but with the help of modern communication tools (language apps), we understood each other perfectly. Every request was fulfilled. There's even the option to use a washing machine in the basement of the hotel. This is especially fantastic for tourists on longer trips to China, as it allows for easy laundry. If you ever come back to China, we will definitely book this hotel again.

I had an incredible stay at Tangfang Courtyard in Datong, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. From the moment my girlfriend and I arrived, we were warmly welcomed by 刘 (Liu), who made us feel right at home. She was incredibly friendly and helpful, always available to assist with any questions we had throughout our stay—her hospitality truly elevated our experience.
The hotel itself is a charming blend of coziness and comfort. The rooms were spotless and well-maintained, with a wonderful atmosphere that made it easy to relax after a day of sightseeing. The entire property exudes warmth and character, offering a peaceful retreat in the heart of Datong.
One of the best aspects of the Tangfang Courtyard is its location. It’s perfectly situated for exploring the old city, with many attractions within walking distance. We enjoyed wandering through the narrow streets and discovering the rich history of the area.
Another highlight was the fresh breakfast offered each morning. It was a lovely way to start the day, with a variety of delicious options to choose from.
Overall, our stay was nothing short of fantastic, and I would highly recommend Tangfang Courtyard to anyone visiting Datong. The combination of excellent service, great location, and cozy ambiance made it a perfect choice for our trip.

MM25slwrji****If I were to rate the room alone, this guesthouse exceeded my expectations. Even though I booked a special offer room in the basement, there were absolutely no issues with ventilation or natural light. On the contrary, on a warm winter day, bathed in the soft glow of the lights, it felt like my own cozy little haven. If I visit again, I'd still choose this place. (The lady at the front desk was beautiful and kind-hearted, always willing to help and answered every question with a smile, which truly warmed my heart.)
Now for the downsides: breakfast was served about a 10-minute walk from the guesthouse, which isn't a huge deal. However, the breakfast service was a world apart from the guesthouse's excellent service. The staff didn't even lift their heads when we entered or left, completely engrossed in their TV show. And they didn't provide Wi-Fi, which I consider a very basic service, right? Also, could you please avoid serving rotten fruit to guests? The breakfast quality was more about presentation than substance; it looked good for photos, but the taste left much to be desired.

CChunfengfumiandouzhuomaoEnvironment: I was originally going to stay at Hampton when I traveled to Datong, but Hampton was fully booked every day and I couldn't book it. Then I searched and carefully selected this Mercure. It is next to the shopping mall, and it is super convenient to eat and drink takeout. It is also very close to Fantawild Ancient City. The price is more practical than Hampton, and it is not a pitfall at all. The hardware and software facilities, service and breakfast are all very good. When checking in at the lobby, children can stamp the combination seal, which is very interesting and beautiful.
Originally, I was going to stay for one day and go somewhere else the next day. Later, because I didn't leave at Fantawild too late, I extended it for another day. After returning, I took the initiative to upgrade the room.
The breakfast is delicious. I eat with my children every morning and feel satisfied. I go out to play with full energy. I will stay at Mercure next time I come to Datong. I am so satisfied!
