GGuest UserThe independent courtyard is located right within the ancient city. The owner has excellent taste, and the decor style is very design-oriented. You can drive directly into the underground parking right at the guesthouse entrance, which is very convenient.
The facilities are very new, and the design is unique. All the toiletries and consumables are from good brands, feeling very high-quality. The common areas are also really nice, perfect for tea and conversation.
The cleanliness is excellent; everything is checked very thoroughly each time.
The service from the owner is superb – very friendly and warm. They were attentive to all our needs, offering pick-up and drop-off service, and were always ready to help.
Overall, it's a fantastic choice within the ancient city. I made a last-minute booking the same day and managed to snag a room. Even though it was the smallest room type, I was quite satisfied with my stay. I'll definitely come back next time.

GGuest UserA perfect stay! This guesthouse truly exudes warmth and hospitality. From the moment I booked and connected with our concierge via WeChat, to the lovely aunties in the kitchen, and every single staff member, the genuine kindness was palpable. The guesthouse is quite new, yet there was absolutely no hint of a renovation smell. The family room, with one large double bed and one small double bed, was very comfortable for our family of three. After a tiring day out exploring, it was wonderful to sink into the spacious bed for a truly refreshing night's sleep. Breakfasts were always abundant and featured delicious local specialties. Starting the day with such a satisfying meal meant we could explore until noon without feeling hungry, even if we hadn't found a suitable restaurant yet! A special thanks to the two aunties in the kitchen, who were incredibly warm and thoughtful; their cooking perfectly suited our family's taste. Xiao Cheng, our concierge, was a beautiful and lovely girl. She proactively met us in the underground garage to help with our luggage, assisted with check-in, and even brought us warm 'goodnight soup' in the evenings, besides recommending some excellent restaurants. There was also Xiao Dang (I apologize, I didn't quite catch who this staff member was), who sent us daily weather forecasts and reminded us to adjust our clothing. Another male staff member shared local culinary delights and insights into the local culture. He even escorted us to the underground garage when we were driving away (and a big thank you to another female staff member who was also there!). We truly felt a comforting, family-like warmth. Our trip to Datong was a last-minute decision, but it turned out to be incredibly memorable and joyful, thanks to the dedication and hard work of all the staff at this guesthouse. If we get the chance to visit Datong again with friends and family, we will definitely choose this place again! I wish you all continued success in your business!

In addition to the various high-quality service levels and high-quality home supplies mentioned in many previous comments, I want to tell a warmer story! 1. The housekeeper learned in advance that our 4 people were silent and added a comfortable bed for us. Let us enter the door and be full of emotion! No mention of extra bed and money! I asked why the extra bed, Xiaobai butler said naturally: I want you to sleep more comfortably! 2. The boss is young and handsome, especially practical and diligent. Almost everything in the homestay is involved. I have seen him clean other houses, and I have seen him Zhang Luo breakfast every day, and there are surprise dishes every day. Don't look at his young but very good. Every step of his life experience is very stable. You can see the introduction on the basement floor of the hotel. 3. When I came back, it was sent by the boss's mother, a young and beautiful sister. I forgot the yogurt in the refrigerator. She was not afraid of trouble and asked the boss to drive it again. It really touched me again! I think the best homestay is to treat you as a family, think about you everywhere, think about you everywhere! Sincerely thank and bless the manager and family for making the homestay better and better! It also made me really fall in love with the city of Datong! BBianca LaiThe staff were so so friendly and super nice!!! Told them it was our honeymoon and there was a handwritten note with fruits and snacks waiting for us on the table. They didn't have to, but they did ☺️ when we left, we were rushing for the train and didn't have time to eat breakfast. The staff were so concerned we were skipping breakfast she quickly packed some food for us to go and even ran after us to pass us cutlery because she forgot to pack some.
Would recommend staying here 10/10!

GGuest UserI've been to Datong twice, and this time I stayed in a guesthouse in the ancient city, which was a truly different experience. First off, the service was impeccable, far superior to any star-rated hotel. From booking to check-in and check-out, the staff's service-oriented mindset was excellent and incredibly thoughtful. Next, the decor: it's anything but the cookie-cutter style you find in hotels. From the lobby to the rooms, everything is unique and distinctive, I'd say it's an Italian style. The bedding and amenities in the room are all branded, and there's plenty of hot water. Breakfast is a nine-grid affair, and the sliced noodles were delicious. The coffee at the front desk was also good. They even offer free try-ons for travel photography outfits. Overall, the experience was fantastic and really changed my perception of guesthouses. I'll definitely come back to experience it again if I get the chance!

BBoluomitangThe environment here is great. It's located within the ancient city but away from the super crowded areas, so it's really quiet at night. The only downside is that cars aren't allowed in the ancient city, so dragging luggage can be a bit of a walk. The courtyard is perfect for a chat and a cup of tea; it's quite tranquil.
The service was very good. You can tell they put a lot of thought into everything; it's all very refined. The afternoon tea was lovely, and both the dried apricots and mandarins were delicious. For breakfast, you can choose between lamb offal soup with rice noodles or刀削面 (daoxiao mian - knife-cut noodles).
The facilities are quite comprehensive, with a coffee machine and a disposable bathtub liner. However, there's still room for improvement. The air conditioning in the room works, but it can make the air quite dry. The water heater is electric, and it's a bit tricky to get the hot and cold water balance just right. If two people shower consecutively, the next person has to wait quite a while.
Overall, it's still a good place to stay. It's very convenient for exploring the ancient city, and it's not far to take a taxi to the grottoes.

LLiuMKThe hot spring hotel has been awesome. The room is very big, super clean and bright enough in areas like the bathroom. It is warm enough even in winter due to the underfloor heating,, so I have to turn off the room air con heating.
The hotel front desk team is even more awesome. They are always ready to help with all kinds of queries and needs. When we were leaving, they even gave us a bottle of local vinegar as a gift.
The hot spring is not located inside the hotel like the Japanese onsen. It is a couple of hundred meters away, but the hotel provided an electric buggy to ferry you to and fro. The hot spring area itself has a changing room, where you can out on the bathrobe before you step out in the open and into the hot spring. So even in winter, it is still manageable and you should not catch a cold. Some regular hot spring users even put on their down feather jacket over the bathrobe, and that surely is more effective.
There are even security personnel at the hot spring to make sure there is help if you get into difficulties.
Breakfast is also good. The hotel also uses the buggy to fetch you to a posh looking restaurant in the hotel vicinity. Food is good, and not too expensive. There is also a small retail outlet next to the restaurant. The prices there are very reasonable.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, checking us in quickly and even upgrading us to the best available room. To our surprise, we were greeted with a thoughtful welcome that included a fresh fruit basket, traditional Chinese soup, and complimentary tea.
The hotel offers an impressive breakfast selection, catering to both local and international tastes. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and the beds are incredibly comfortable—making it easy to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
This was my second time staying at the Great Palace Hotel, and once again, it exceeded expectations. Its location is ideal—right in the heart of the city, close to all major tourist attractions and just a few kilometers from the train station. Special thanks to Manager 崔经理, who was exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Datong.
What truly sets this hotel apart is the attention to detail and the genuine hospitality of the staff. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning guest, the service remains consistently high.
