GGuest UserThe Wi-Fi was terrible; there was none in the room initially. They fixed it later, and I got two bars of signal, but it was still poor. There's no hot spring here; what they call a hot spring is just tap water. The bedding was awful; I got bitten all over and felt very itchy, and the duvet cover kept coming off the comforter. This price is just not worth it; my child's skin was red and itchy from bites.

GGuest UserThe place is really spacious, and you can cook your own meals, which is super convenient! The Nohi Bus Terminal is right downstairs, and JR Takayama Station is only about 100 meters away. There's a supermarket a few hundred meters from here too, so buying groceries and cooking is a breeze! It was such a pleasant surprise, totally exceeded my expectations. I thought a hotel for a few hundred bucks wouldn't be that great, but this place is huge and even has laundry facilities and a kitchen.

The room was clean. The threeâbed room was enough for our family (2 adults, a 12âyearâold, a 9âyearâold, and a 5âyearâold). Breakfast was good. The onsen was also nice and clean. They even provide complimentary popsicles after the onsen â my kids loved them.
The staff were very polite and helpful.
Overall, good value for money.

Itâs less than a 5-minute walk from Takayama Station. We arrived quite earlyâseveral hours before check-inâbut were able to store our luggage. The check-in process itself was smooth.
The room we reserved felt more like an apartment-style hotel room. It was very spacious, with plenty of room to move around. I liked how the furniture was arranged; everything was well-maintained, clean, and tidy. The beds were large, and I especially appreciated that they provided four pillows eachâI slept very comfortably.
I also loved the balcony. My friend and I spent hours there, watching cars and trains come and go, as well as people walking by.
The facilities and amenities were exactly as advertised in the Services & Amenities section. Out of my recent two-week trip, this accommodation was the place I enjoyed the most.

GGuest UserThe rooms are luxurious and look great. Even though there's no restaurant in the hotel, there's a small mini-mart where you can grab something to eat. The drinks sold at the mini-mart are good, and there are tables to sit at, a microwave, miso soup, and ice available. Overall, it's very good and close to the public onsen.

MMike IgOur stay at Ryokan Gizan was a truly memorable experience. This is a traditionally built and decorated Japanese ryokan, with tatami floors, sliding doors, and an authentic atmosphere that makes you feel fully immersed in Japanese culture. Itâs definitely a âmust-visitâ if youâre looking to experience traditional Japanese accommodation â even a short stay of 2â3 nights is enough to make it special.
The ryokan is quite old, which actually adds to its authentic charm, though it might feel a bit less comfortable for more demanding guests. That said, itâs very well maintained and everything is clean and thoughtfully arranged.
The onsen facilities were excellent â one public bath and four private ones that you can use freely. After long days of exploring, it was a real treat.
We highly recommend booking with the traditional dinner included. The meals were a highlight: we had Yakiniku the first night and Shabu-shabu the second, both featuring fresh, generous portions of delicious food. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese set â beautifully presented and made with care, though not quite to our personal taste.
The location is stunning â surrounded by mountains, rivers, and blossoming trees. It feels peaceful and remote. Just note that amenities like ATMs or grocery stores are limited nearby. However, itâs well connected by bus (just a 3-minute walk from the ryokan), which can take you to Kamikochi or the terminals at Takayama and Hirayu Onsen. Buses run about once an hour, so itâs quite manageable.
Overall, a fantastic stay â relaxing, unique, and highly recommended for anyone looking to experience a more traditional and scenic side of Japan.

GGuest UserThis hotel is super close to Hirayu Onsen bus station, just a few minutes' walk away. It's a pretty big place. After checking in, you swap your shoes for slippers, and you can wear the provided yukata (Japanese robes) throughout the entire hot spring hotel. To avoid lugging our luggage up and down, we opted for a slightly more expensive Western-style standard room in the main building. They have an outdoor onsen, and the men's and women's baths switch daily. After a relaxing soak, there's free ice cream available. We had dinner and breakfast included, both buffet style, but the taste was just so-so.

SsyamimiaziahThe room was quite small but all the amenities is good. there's onsen (which i didnt explore) but you can basically monitor everything from the tv, to check if the laundry is currently used or if the onsen is crowded. theres free drink and food upon arrival. and the front desk can speak english đ anddddd theres family mart in front of the hotelllllll. with parking some more and not that far from hida town.

The room was nice and spacious, allowing us to feel at home.
Not only were we taken care of by means of beautiful breakfast and dinner, but the staff were extremely helpful when we talked to them about hiking in Kamokochi.
I would highly recommend booking this place especially with a meal plan, since it was nice to have food sorted after Hiking all day.
