Although the private room doesn't have a bath, it comes with a luxurious shower room, a separate fully automatic toilet, and a stylish washroom. The facilities are absolutely top-notch."

"Love this ryokan! The service was just amazing! We arrived the ryokan feeling cold and asked where we could get some heat pads and was told that since the ryokan provides free shuttle to train station, they could send us to convenient store. And before it, the staff came back with some mini heat pads for us to use for the meanwhile. There was also paid shuttle to snow monkey park (500 yen per pax one way) that you can arrange with them. We had a tatami room, it was spacious and the staff came to the room to do the check in and served tea and welcome snack to us. The ryokan guests are entitled to go to nine onsens around the area for free. The ryokan provides yukatas and all necessities for it. The meals were sumptuous and super yummy. Overall, a fantastic ryokan experience for us!"

"Authentic Onsen Experience at Biyunoyado Our family had a wonderful stay at Biyunoyado, a great choice for experiencing an authentic Japanese onsen. The service was excellent, and the hotel even offers a shuttle bus to the Snow Monkey Park and station (though we didn’t use it since we drove). The staff were very friendly and spoke both Chinese and English, making communication easy. The onsen was a highlight, providing a relaxing and traditional experience. We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast. The only downside was that the room was a bit small, with limited space for luggage. Overall, Biyunoyado is a fantastic place for those looking to experience Japanese hospitality, great service, and a soothing onsen."

"We really enjoyed our week long stay at Hoshikawakan in Jan 2026. We have been driving around Hakuba for 4 weeks to visit various ski resorts and spent our last week at Hoshikawakan to visit Shiga Kogen. The room was spacious and clean with a small toilet like most Japanese hotels but there was a large public onsen and 2 smaller private onsens that can be reserved once each day for 30mins so you could always take your shower in the onsens like the locals do especially later at night about 10-11pm where I was the only one in the public onsen. The hotel had a lovely buffet breakfast spread with local soba, Japnese curry, cold minced sashimi fish, grill fish station, fried eggs station that will keep you adequately fed for the day's ski trip - it even has a hot drink station with free oden daily at 3-5.30pm which we enjoyed as a snack after a hard day of skiiing. The service was excellent too with the staff helpfully arranging to ship our ski equipment directly to Hanade Airport, daily clearing of snow off the carpark and new towels provided daily. The location in Yudanaka is great too especially if you drive as it is between Shiga Kogen (25-35mins drive) and Kita Shiga Kogen (15-20mins drive) with many attractions like Shibu Onsen, Yudanaka Brewery and Snow Monkey Park within 10-15 drive. There were also ample dinner options nearby within 10-15 mins walk but you may need to try and make reservations by walking in on your first night. The only downside was that the WiFi network is poor and patchy when overloaded by a lot of guests over the weekend but otherwise it was good."

"Shibu Hotel is the hotel with the highest emotional value in this Japan tour. I was deeply touched by the good service. The hotel is a typical Japanese hotel with large rooms and snow scenery outside the window. This time I came here mainly to see monkeys taking hot springs. The hotel has a free car to take tourists to the foot of Jigokudani Hot Spring Park and pick them up on the return trip. This time I went to see monkeys taking hot springs and helped pick up a friend who lived in other hotels. Thank you very much! The hotel food is Kaiseki cuisine, which is very satisfactory, especially the roast beef, cod, mushroom soup, and fresh tofu are super delicious and fragrant. The room temperature of the hotel's hot spring can be raised a little bit. When leaving the hotel, the proprietress gave me delicious and beautiful special candies. When I got on the car, the hotel manager kept waving goodbye when the car was almost out of sight. At the train station, the driver also helped to bring the luggage to the ticket office. It really left a very good impression of this stay, which is worth recommending."

"It's a 10 mins walk uphill from train station so maybe better to try to contact them for a complimentary pick up. The place is super grand and 2 onsens. A Instagram worthy one that the males and females get to use it at different timings. The shower stuff in the onsen are mediocre though. No fancy facial stuff for women unlike some other onsens at this price range. We had breakfast and dinner for the 2 nights. And well worth it. But you have to follow a fixed timing and we felt a bit rushed but otherwise it was really great and service perfect. We had one the biggest rooms I believe Room 716. Had a sitting area and also a sleeping area. Easily fits 8 persons. We were only 2. In the day they kept the futons and brought it out at night. Towels changed every night. There is a van that goes straight to Mount Yokoteyama ski resort. The receptionist didn't seem to know about it but you could try to Google. It was a complimentary ride to and fro if you bought the lift tickets. Took only like 30 mins to get there. You can get rentals at hotels there."

"Google map navigation is not allowed, the front street and the back street keep changing, it took 20 minutes to ask several talents to find, should change the picture of the door, put the license plate in. The heating will stop by itself, and I was awakened by the cold on the first night, because I waited until the next morning to find someone to help me restart, explaining that it was the self-protection of the heating machine. I didn't mention it at all when I checked in. Breakfast is average, the outdoor hot spring is not rinsed, and the other side can be eaten indoors before soaking or soaking. However, the outdoor hot spring environment can be. The overall service did not feel warm and mechanical. Overall, I was the last in the hot spring hotel I stayed in this time, and I don't know why Google review is so high. This is the highest I expect and the lowest."

"The inside of the hotel was very beautiful and the old inn was repainted and it was good. ... But there is no person at the reception at check-in, and it calls several times in the interphone and finally comes out. At check-out, the payment was said to be ”local payment”, but I couldn't meet the receptionist, and I couldn't connect even if I called, so I had to pay double (I had you refund ...). It was a trouble continuation, such as the difference between me and the hotel. The payment designation method between the travel site and the hotel was different (the former was the ”local payment” instruction, and the hotel side was the ”deduction” instruction), so I only felt unpleasant."

"Legend has it that injured bears from the Shiga Kogen region would bathe in this emerald-green hot spring, hence the name ”Kuma no Yu” (Bear's Bath). Kuma no Yu is the oldest hot spring in the Shiga Kogen region, a rare emerald-green hot spring in Japan; apart from Kunimi Onsen in Iwate Prefecture, you won't find another hot spring this green. The Kuma no Yu Hotel was established in 1927, located behind the Kuma no Yu Ski Resort. During the Showa era, the young Emperor returned here for winter skiing and hot spring bathing. The hotel has been passed down through generations, and the windows display old ski equipment and pictures, indicating the owner is also a skiing enthusiast. This 100% free-flowing, unpaved hot spring is known as the ”Yu no Hana” (Flower of the Bath) for its skin-beautifying properties. Today, many hot spring hotels have been built in the surrounding area. Incidentally, other hot spring hotels use hot spring water piped from outside the mountains. Only Kuma no Yu boasts a 100% free-flowing, emerald-green source! During our two-night stay, the hotel service was warm and attentive, always responsive to our needs. Most of the guests were middle-aged or elderly Japanese who had driven themselves; we, from mainland China, were quite a unique case! The hotel itself has historical and cultural significance, is very quiet, and perfect for relaxing! The hotel's open-air Emerald Onsen bath was absolutely stunning; it was almost deserted during the day, and we enjoyed the first bath twice. There were no restaurants near the hotel, so we booked a room and two meals. They thoughtfully arranged for a Chinese-speaking staff member to serve seasonal local dishes, which were more than enough for us. We ordered the best [Shiga Kogen no Chishu Enki] 100% pure rice sake, which was delicious! The Japanese gentleman at the front desk patiently answered all our questions; a special thank you to Ms. Chen at the front desk for her meticulous assistance, even helping us find the best bus route from the hotel to Matsumoto and accompanying us to Nagano Station. We visited Kumanoyu in late autumn in Shiga Kogen and witnessed the first snowfall—so beautiful! In just half a month, it will become a ski resort. If I have the chance to visit Shiga Kogen again, I will definitely choose [Kuma no Yu Hotel]."

Just wanna share my experience of staying in this beautiful hotel. 1- The location and the views from the hotel are just amazing! Especially during sunsets! 2- The personal and stuff of the hotel are super super friendly, if I could I would give 10 stars for the hospitality. 3- Onsens and the view are something out from this world 4- What I was really amazed is the kitchen and the chef that is cooking. If you stay in this hotel I highly recommend take the breakfast and dinners. You will have a high class food with a presentation and explanation of each dish by the servant. Best experience 5- Last but not the least I forgot my speaker in the hotel. The stuff brought it back the same day to me to another hotel I moved after NISHIHOPPO. So guys, less words more actions! 10 stars to this amazing hotel and it’s owner. My respect.

Amazing family run ryokan just few minutes drive from Snow Monkey Park. Booked a room with a private in-room onsen but it didn't make much sense as the bath was hot but there was no hot water in the shower. The room was spacious with comfortable beds and futon. Nice yukatas and socks were provided in the room. Public baths in the ryokan are great (especially outdoor area), we tried both of them. The kaiseki dinner and japanese breakfast are VERY delicious. The staff and the owner are so nice and welcoming. The free transfer to the Monkey Park is available at 9:45 am

We had a wonderful stay and truly enjoyed every moment. The hostess is incredibly welcoming and a genuinely lovely person — she even kindly drove us to the train station, which we deeply appreciated. The breakfast was outstanding, and the onsen was beautiful and very peaceful. Having a private onsen was especially convenient, as it allowed us to enjoy the experience together as a family without needing to separate. Our room was very spacious and authentically Japanese, with excellent-quality bedding. The mattresses, pillows, and high quality shits  were exceptionally comfortable and made for a perfect night’s sleep. A lovely touch was the complimentary milk served in adorable small glass bottles — delicious and charming. The location is simply ideal: perfectly situated near public onsens and great restaurants, truly the best location one could imagine. We would happily return and highly recommend this stay to anyone looking for comfort, authenticity, and warm hospitality.

The hotel was great and exceeded our expectation in all ways. the parking was large and easy to access. The facilities were great especially the onsen on level 5, the view of teh onsen out to the mountains was fantastic. The reception and staff in the hotel were super courteous and smiley and friendly. The breakfast was beyond expectation , the hotel staff will meet you at the lobby and guide you to your seats/table where all the food has been prepared and laid out. the food was great and super filling, with appetizer, miso soup, side dishes, main, rice, fruits, green tea/coffee and also dessert in the form of yoghurt. Aside form that, for the Western breakfast, they set up a toastbox at the table for you to toast your basket of bread assortment. Other worthy aspect are the 8-10pm Sake hours, where you are given tokens to sample the range of sake and wine from their coin-operated dispenser, along with free snacks. When they make up the room daily, they will also leave sample of snacks on the table daily. Overall it was a great stay and i will definately recommend this hotel to others/my friends.

We loved staying in Koishiya! It is a lovely, quaint, cozy, homey ryokan and the service was excellent. We booked this property at the last minute because we decided to spend the night in Nagano just a week prior to the start of our trip and we are so glad we did. Shibu Onsen is a super cute town. It being covered in snow when we were there made it all the more magical. The members of the staff were super warm, acommodating, generous and conversed well in English. They picked us up from Snow Monkey Park even though it's not part of their service. We didn't know this because we haven't yet read the hotel orientation materials by then. The owner of a snack store in Monkey Park arranged the pick up for us because it looked like we were so tired from walking. Thank you so much for picking us up, Koishiya!! We stayed in the annex and we had the whole building to ourselves. It was really a memorable stay for us. They also dropped us off at Yudanaka Station after check out. Thank you, Koishiya and hope to stay there again, soon!

This hotel is definitely an older building and it does show. It’s well maintained but know that going into making a booking here! The staff are really incredible, I had an incident with my door and they immediately fixed the problem for me. Additionally I was hoping to get to the Snow Monkey park earlier than the shuttle service was set to depart and they were nice enough to take me! There were some minor cleanliness things like cobwebs and the fridge had a slight mildew scent to it that made me weary to put anything open inside. Additionally there was no hair dryer, I probably could have asked because it’s such a staple amenity but I was in a rush and never did. It’s about a 7 minute walk from the station and there’s a Lawson and Pharmacy en route if you need to grab anything. It’s about 4 minutes from a bus that can take you deeper into the area with more food and shops too. There isn’t much else in this area but it is about an hour from central Nagano. If you’re a solo traveler looking to explore the area but not wanting to spend too much on one of the famous ryokan’s in the area, I definitely recommend!

Located just within 3min from Yudanaka station, Raki Onsenryokan is run by a Chinese family. As a quiet town on its own, no one was tending to the reception when I arrived, after ringing the bell, a lady came down to help with the check in - very straightforward. I believe the family stays in the same building as they said if we ever needed anything, we could just ring the bell at the reception. Obviously I had booked a room too big for a solo traveller as this was the only room left as ”non-smoking”. Toilet and sink are at two different parts of the room which was a little inconvenient. Ryokan offers free drive (15min) TO snow monkey park, but not return, so please cater at least 35min to walk from park exit to the bus stop. Ryokan also provided a hearty breakfast, overall for the price paid it was a decent stay!

We really enjoyed our stay at Shiga Kogen Sunvalley hotel. It's only a 20 mins bus ride from the Snow Monkey Park. The bus stop (S15) is about 100m away but when it's heavily snowing, it could be a little difficult to pull your luggage across the road. During the winter season, there's a free shuttle bus that takes you around the different resorts. The hotel also has ski rentals and the pricing is very reasonable and convenient for hotel guests to pickup and drop-off. The onsite onsen and sauna is clean and well maintained. We had breakfast included - food selection is good with a mix of Western and Japanese cuisine. Dinner required reservation and you have a choice of Japanese set course, or a casual course. Usui and the team really know how to provide great hospitality and we really enjoyed our stay.
