Shibu Onsen Koishiya Ryokan

We loved staying in Koishiya! It is a lovely, quaint, cozy, homey ryokan and the service was excellent. We booked this property at the last minute because we decided to spend the night in Nagano just a week prior to the start of our trip and we are so glad we did. Shibu Onsen is a super cute town. It being covered in snow when we were there made it all the more magical. The members of the staff were super warm, acommodating, generous and conversed well in English. They picked us up from Snow Monkey Park even though it's not part of their service. We didn't know this because we haven't yet read the hotel orientation materials by then. The owner of a snack store in Monkey Park arranged the pick up for us because it looked like we were so tired from walking. Thank you so much for picking us up, Koishiya!! We stayed in the annex and we had the whole building to ourselves. It was really a memorable stay for us. They also dropped us off at Yudanaka Station after check out. Thank you, Koishiya and hope to stay there again, soon!

A beautiful over 100 years old ryokan, the staff / owners were as amazing and friendly, the charm and attention to detail is lovely throughout. Key to the public onsens was great, and full details are provided for relaxing use of them. Very accommodating for English speaking. Tatami beds were comfy, room large with views of street. Very helpful and appreciated shuttle to the snow monkeys. Well made and presented food for the morning. Very cozy, in a very cosy village, would love to come again 😎

The ryokan was easy enough to find, even by walking from Yudanaka Station (But of course, I did not have a lot of luggage with me). Do take note that the toilets and shower facilities in the ryokan are shared - But having said that, the facilities were also clean! Liked how we could make up our own futon, which added on to the whole experience. Overall, would recommend - especially if you're on a tight budget! Oh yes, the ryokan will provide you the key to the shibu onsen public baths!

Book this place and you might find out that your place looks like a soviet bunker. I wholeheartedly don’t recommend anyone to stay here.

Yeap it was hot but refreshing…the onsen (hot water bath) that was fabulous….around here

Parking might be a problem. Nice place, access to all onsen. Western style breakfast.

The staff really went out of their way to make our stay as best as possible. Even drove us at 21.00 to the Lawson as all the restaurants were closed. Be aware, there is only one shower for the whole Guesthouse. Can highly recommend!

Land call ahead of time to get a pick up from the Yudanaka station by a car You will be given a free pass to all the 9 shibu onsens to tour around, you can buy a towel to collect the onsen stamps from the staff Shared bathrooms and toilets for all guests, there are 2 bathrooms for all sexes There is a free morning ride 9/10am to the snow monkey park, inform the staff
