GGuest UserThis is a good hostel I've stayed at in Shanghai. Each room has its own en-suite bathroom with a shower and hairdryer. There's a curtain for wet/dry separation, and while it's not as good as a glass door, it helps reduce water splashing. The toilet is relatively quiet, and the bathroom door offers good sound insulation and locks securely. The mirror above the sink has a light, which is great for quiet use at night. The bathroom's ceiling light is connected to the exhaust fan, which can be a bit noisy, but compared to some other hostels, they've clearly put a lot of thought into it. They even seem to provide toilet paper! To ensure quietness, there are three additional private bathrooms outside the rooms, also with wet/dry separation and hairdryers. There's a common lounge area, convenient for eating and using a computer, though it's not huge, which is understandable given its prime location in downtown Shanghai. There are coin-operated washing machines and dryers, located outside so they shouldn't be noisy. The front desk offers free laundry detergent. The drying area nearby is a bit crowded and doesn't get much sun. There's a direct-drinking water dispenser next to the laundry area. Upon entering the room, you're required to change into slippers, which helps keep out dust and odors. The beds have pre-sanitized and bagged sheets and duvet covers. Each bed comes with a lockable locker and a clothes hanger. The room hygiene genuinely seems cleaner than typical hostels. The location on Guangdong Road is excellent, with convenient transportation. My main gripe, which is common in hostels, is the sheer number of people. In an 8-person room, some people were still on the phone past 11 PM, others checked in at 3 AM, and some started doing their makeup at 6 AM, leading to constant noise and disturbance.

LLuanpaodeyouyuThis was the most pleasant surprise on my solo trip. The bunks were spacious, and the lockers provided peace of mind. The common areas were cozy, with bookshelves filled with travel journals. My roommates were all friendly and quiet, never disturbing anyone. The location is great, close to shopping and attractions, making it super convenient for getting around and finding food. It didn't feel like a sterile, impersonal accommodation; the small, thoughtful details made my journey feel more like coming home. I genuinely recommend it for solo travelers.

GGuest UserEvery time I visit Shanghai, I stay at this hotel. It offers excellent value for money, with well-equipped and clean facilities, and top-notch service. The location is also superb, making it convenient for shopping and dining. What truly stands out is the front desk service; they are incredibly helpful and friendly. I always enjoy chatting with them, and they really go the extra mile to make guests feel welcome and valued.

GGuest UserThe room was very clean, and the bunk beds in the dorm room had spacious and practical shelves with combination locks for storage. Most of the guests were considerate; it was generally quiet and peaceful at night. The restrooms and showers were separated by gender, and the disposable toilet seat covers provided a sense of security. The front desk staff was very kind, and they offered free luggage storage before check-in and after check-out (though you have to put your belongings in the storage room yourself, which made me a little worried about others potentially rummaging through them). There were also a cockatiel and a lovebird in a pet cage in the abandoned (?) cafe on the first floor. I wonder who's taking care of the little parrots 🥹 The only minor drawback was the cleanliness of the washbasin area. It clearly hadn't been cleaned regularly, with limescale, mold, and a lot of hair around the edges. Some guests also washed their dishes in the sink, leaving food residue, which was a bit unhygienic.

GGuest UserThis older hotel is truly reliable. Our house is undergoing renovations, so we needed a temporary place to stay. I've often passed by this hotel but this was my first time staying, and it was surprisingly good! Although it's been open for a few years, everything is well-maintained, showing they really put effort into running the place. The overall environment is very quiet, and it offers great value for money for a relaxing stay.

TtonytravelsmondoI am grateful for Xiao Duan and Xiaolin for the help they’ve provided me!! Great value hostel in a top location — a few honest tips for fellow travellers The location is absolutely spot-on — right in the heart of things, couldn't ask for better. The staff were brilliant: genuinely helpful and welcoming. They gave me a disposable towel and tissues free of charge, which normally costs ¥3 — a small gesture, but a kind one that made a difference. A few honest notes if you're coming from somewhere like Japan (as I was): manage your expectations on cleanliness. Japanese hostels spoil you — spotless rooms, no smells, the lot. China is different, and this place is no exception. The toilet had a bit of an odour, and the rooms could do with more regular ventilation. It's not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing. On the plus side: free drinking water to fill your bottle, paid laundry on-site, and that unbeatable central location. The rooms themselves are decent enough nothing flash, but perfectly fine for the price. Finding the place: Google Maps is patchy in China at best. I'd strongly recommend downloading Baidu Maps or Amap (高德地图) before you arrive — they're far more reliable here. If you do use Google Maps, cross-reference the address with the Chinese name 登巴客栈 (Dengba Hostel) to avoid ending up on the wrong side of town. Overall, a solid 4-star stay — perhaps I'm slightly biased coming straight from Japan, but for the price and location, it's a sound choice.

GGuest UserFirst time in Shanghai, and this hostel is conveniently located in a building with easy elevator access. I stayed in a four-person dorm. The room was a bit small, but the natural light was decent, and having an en-suite bathroom was a huge plus. My main gripe is getting into the top bunk; the ladder design makes it quite difficult to climb, you really need to brace yourself to get up there. The front desk service was good. What I really loved was meeting people from all over China and even other countries, and the hostel hosted various activities. It really fit my impression of Shanghai as a diverse and inclusive city.

BBlackeyedsamuraiBooked this hotel last minute, cause my favorite hotel is closing down business this month and i wanted something nearer cause I’m well versed with the surrounding areas, 1: the first red flag is the reception, mail and deliveries are all piled up and falling off shelves, it’s so dirty and humid, it looks like a hoarder’s poach, they’re no waiting chairs, so you’ll stand while they process the guests that came before you until it’s your turn !! The receptionists are very nice and helpful . 2; no room housekeeping ( you’ll have to ask for someone to come take the rubbish and give you towels or change your bedding. 3: THE FILTH!!! The filth is on level 1000/100 the grime made it hard for me to shower with my eyes open, I’m not sure if the place has a manager and if they care about the the wellbeing of the clients , because from what i saw, the cleaners don’t even bother, the floor had food stains from i think when they just opened, the sink🤮 the bathroom ( that one corner gave me the hibbigibeis) the toilet seat was broken , everything in the bathroom was broken and dirty , then my charger fell in the space which is between the bathroom glass and the bed, got down to retrieve it and i decided it was best to just a get a new charger instead. The place if cleaned and cared for would be an amazing hotel apartment, it has great amenities , a washing machine a fridge and a drying rack if you upgrade to a bigger room, a kitchenette that would be great if you are interested in cooking and staying longer and it’ has an Aldi downstairs, a gym and lots of other great places surrounding it . I really hope the owners would read this and take it into consideration and carry out serious supervision or else their property will lose value, The hygiene of the hotel does not only ensure the health and wellness of the visitors who sleep in those walls but also keeps the property value up. Dirt And filth only brings it down and puts the health of others at risk . I really hope they change standards.
