The rooms facing the street do not have balconies and cars with goods for the store are unloaded early in the morning under the windows of the hotel. The rooms facing the courtyard have balconies, but this is the sunny side (and there are no air conditioners in the windows) and there is a constant hum of ventilation. A very, very simple breakfast and bad coffee."

"Hehe, it seems that we were upgraded to a room type, which is very nice. The scenery is great. There are restaurants and supermarkets just up the hill from the hotel. It's just a little far from the city center. The bus station is right in front of the hotel. Don't have too much hope for breakfast, it's all white rice. I wanted to eat soup but there was none. The bath products are okay, at least they have a brand."

"This is our second time here, and it was great again. The reception is super friendly. The rooms are functionally furnished and clean. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. You feel like you're visiting good friends. The breakfast buffet is extensive, and if you run out of food, they always refill it immediately. This is our second time here for New Year's Eve, and from the hotel terrace we had a fantastic view of the fireworks at the harbor and in the mountains. We're happy to accept that the hotel is set back a bit from the hills. In the morning we walked down to the harbor and took the bus back up in the evening. The bus costs €1.95 per person and runs quite frequently. You can sit on the terrace or inside the hotel. Everything is just lovely here. The friendly staff alone is reason enough for us to come back next New Year."

"We have just returned from a one week stay at the hotel Bela Sao Tiago, Funchal.Having read so many negative comments prior to arriving ,we were somewhat apprehensive. It is hard to imagine just what went wrong with other people’s holidays as we enjoyed an amazing holiday. Firstly, location, the views from the hotel are spectacular. The staff, especially the bar and restaurant staff are all very friendly and professional. We were on a half board meal plan. The breakfasts were plentiful and tasty. The evening meal was superb , four courses, starter, followed by the fish course, then the meat course and then dessert The food was always beautifully presented and creative as well as nutritious and appetising. Our room, on the second floor was comfortable and well maintained.All in all a fantastic holiday"
