Choosing the Past & Present Hotel for my Yangshuo trip was absolutely the right decision! It's right by the Yulong River, so when you open the window, you're greeted by mountains and flowing water, with bamboo rafts drifting past – it's like living inside a traditional Chinese ink painting. The room was clean and comfortable, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering an incredible view. The bedding was soft, the toiletries smelled lovely, and the Dyson hairdryer was a definite plus. The housekeeper was attentive and always available when needed, without being intrusive. The breakfast was varied and delicious, especially the Guilin rice noodles. In the evening, they even offer a complimentary sweet soup. The infinity pool and large lawn are perfect for photos. The location is both quiet and convenient, with free parking. My entire stay was relaxing and rejuvenating. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit to Yangshuo. Highly recommend!

Out of the three boutique guesthouses I stayed at in Yangshuo, this one was by far the best. The environment, service, views, and comfort were all impeccable. The aesthetic appeal is evident in every corner of the guesthouse. It's a shame I only stayed here on my last night; if I had booked it for my first night, I definitely would have extended my stay for three days. You can truly feel that this is a guesthouse dedicated to providing excellent service and caring for its guests' experience. First off, the location is fantastic, very close to the Yulong River bamboo rafts and the Ten-Mile Gallery. The beds here are incredibly comfortable; I slept wonderfully. There's a bathtub (and it fills up super fast!), and the butler brought me rose petals for a relaxing soak. All the toiletries are L'Occitane, and the guesthouse features smart home technology. Even the hairdryer is a Dyson, and the overall hygiene is excellent. The butler service is incredibly responsive; they get back to you quickly on WeChat. It's the kind of service I appreciate – available when you need it, but not overly intrusive or overwhelming. The afternoon tea, welcome fruit, minibar, late-night snack, and breakfast were all very generous. The complimentary late-night snack was the most thoughtful I've ever received at any guesthouse. The overall environment is incredibly photogenic, with a swimming pool and a stunning rooftop floating pavilion (a must-visit for sisters who love taking photos – remember to book a time with the butler in advance!). There's also a pasture with complimentary deer feeding; the sika deer make for beautiful photos, and there's a white horse too. There are so many more details I can't even list them all. I highly, highly recommend this place! If they open another guesthouse elsewhere, I'd definitely stay again (though currently, this is their only location).

Five-star rating plus 9 photos for my favorite B&B and its lovely hostess! Our family trip to Guilin Yangshuo this time had its ups and downs with the weather. It didn't rain as forecasted, but it was incredibly hot during the day. We ended up spending a lot of time at the B&B, but we had an absolutely wonderful experience. First off, the guesthouse was spotless, and everyone's service was incredibly kind and thoughtful. We booked the New Chinese Suite, which had large floor-to-ceiling windows. In the afternoon, we were even treated to an afternoon tea. After resting, we rented electric scooters from the B&B and went cycling along the Ten-Mile Gallery, which was fantastic. The highlight was definitely after dinner, enjoying the hostess's bartending skills at the B&B's bar. She's beautiful, has a cheerful personality, and makes excellent cocktails. We kept enjoying drink after drink into the evening. Next time when it's cooler, I'll definitely be back to Yangshuo for rafting and to stay at this B&B again. See you then!

Service: This guesthouse is located in Xingping Ancient Town, close to the high-speed train station. They offer a complimentary and very friendly pick-up service. The business van used for pick-ups was clean and spacious, and they provided a dedicated pick-up for each guest, which felt very exclusive. The staff were incredibly friendly; when we arrived at 9 AM and hadn't had breakfast, they kindly offered us a complimentary meal. We were also able to check in early, which was the first time I've ever experienced such accommodating service. The hotel itself is beautifully designed. The courtyard area is a renovated old building from the late Qing Dynasty, showcasing traces of time and history, making it perfect for photos. The rooms in the newly built main building are very spacious, with large, clean bathrooms and expansive mountain views that are absolutely stunning. The public facilities are excellent, including a beautiful courtyard, a loft, and a swimming pool. There are also many fruit trees in the yard. You could easily spend an entire day at the hotel without getting bored.

Sugar House was one of the highlights of our trip to China. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had chosen somewhere special. The hotel is beautifully designed, blending contemporary luxury with its historic surroundings in a way that feels both unique and peaceful. Our room was spacious, stylish and extremely comfortable, with stunning views over the karst landscape. It was the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring Yangshuo. The food was outstanding throughout our stay. Breakfast offered a great selection of both Chinese and Western options, and every meal we had at the hotel restaurant was beautifully prepared using excellent local ingredients. Everything was consistently excellent and a real highlight of our stay. What really elevated our experience, however, was the exceptional service. Every member of staff was warm, welcoming and genuinely eager to help. They assisted us in arranging transport and offered excellent recommendations for exploring the surrounding area, making everything effortless. The location was perfect for us—peaceful and secluded, yet within easy reach of Yangshuo’s incredible scenery. We spent the day rafting on the Yulong River, visiting Fuli Bridge, Moon Hill and Xingping, before returning to relax by the beautiful riverside pool each evening. It was the ideal balance of adventure and tranquillity. Sugar House is much more than a luxury hotel; it is a destination in its own right. We left wishing we had booked an extra night and would not hesitate to return. It is a truly exceptional place that we will remember for a very long time.

The hot spring pools on the mountainside, coupled with the distant green peaks, are absolutely stunning. The rooftop infinity pool and Moon Mountain create a picturesque scene. The 270-degree panoramic mountain and water views are incredible! Plus, there's a free shuttle service to the pier for bamboo rafting, which was a fantastic experience. I'll definitely be back! The hotel also offered a complimentary travel photography session, and the service was excellent, producing some truly beautiful photos. Ten out of ten!

This is a wonderful family run guesthouse, where you can enjoy peace away from the hustle of Xingping Old Town. Differently from other types of accommodation we have seen in Dahe Bei village, this guesthouse is a hidden gem with charme and character. The food was excellent and abundant, freshly cooked by the owner herself. The owner picked us up from the Dahe Bei ferry dock, organised an electric moped rental in Dahe Bei (we didn't see many on that side of the river) and gave us plenty of tips and suggestions for where to go and what to do around there, including a sunrise hike to a nearby mountain that you can reach directly from the guesthouse - if you're into hiking (it's a 1h walk uphill through pomelo and orange orchards, followed by a series of staircases), it's a great spot, as we found only a few photographers when we got up there. The ginger cat and the house dog are cute and extremely friendly, adding to the overall wonderful atmosphere. Our room was spacious and clean, with plenty of hot water for showers after a day of hiking or driving around to see the surroundings. If we were to travel again in this area, we would definitely go back. Highly recommended!

The hotel boasts stylish decor and spotlessly clean rooms. The staff were exceptionally friendly and went out of their way to make our trip comfortable and convenient. A special highlight was the rooftop terrace, offering breathtaking panoramic views of West Street. We were also pleasantly surprised when the bar staff offered us complimentary drinks. Highly recommended!

I chose to stay at Yangshuo Mountain Retreat largely because of the owner, Little Fish. What stood out to me before booking was how she takes the time to personally respond to every single review. That level of care and pride in the property really came through—and it is fully reflected in the guest experience. I stayed in Room 207, which offered a perfect vantage point of the Yulong River. I spent hours on the balcony simply watching bamboo rafts drift past against the dramatic karst mountains—it was incredibly peaceful and almost meditative. The retreat itself feels authentic and deeply rooted in the local community. It is entirely run by people from nearby villages, with over 90% of the team being women. Much of the food is sourced directly from the families of the staff who have farms, which makes the entire experience feel personal and sustainable. What impressed me further was hearing from local Didi drivers, who also spoke very highly of the resort. They shared that many of the staff have been there for years, a testament to how well the owner treats her team. It’s clear that Little Fish sees them as family—taking them on holidays and ensuring they are well looked after. That kind of culture is rare and truly shows in the warmth of the service. With only 34 rooms, the property feels wonderfully intimate and quiet—ideal if you’re looking to disconnect. The setting is nothing short of spectacular, with uninterrupted views of one of the most beautiful stretches of the Yulong River. The food also deserves special mention. Both the Chinese and Western options were excellent, and we ended up having all our meals at the hotel. Portions were generous, and when we couldn’t finish the famous Bamboo Chicken, the staff kindly offered to keep it for our next meal—a thoughtful gesture that perfectly reflects their hospitality. Overall, this is far more than just a place to stay. It’s an experience built on genuine care, community, and natural beauty. I would return without hesitation

I came here with my friends during the summer holiday, specifically for their restaurant which is on the must-try list. While waiting for a table, we found out they also have guest rooms. Hotel guests get a 10% discount and priority seating, so after seeing the rooms, we decisively booked one. Honestly, both their restaurant and guest rooms are excellent. The summer prices were also very reasonable, and the staff were all very polite and enthusiastic. It was our first time in Yangshuo, and they even recommended some fun attractions. The hotel can also book tickets for various scenic spots, so it felt like we didn't really need to plan our route much as they had everything sorted for us. I'll definitely choose this hotel again when I bring my family next time. It's very close to the riverside and West Street, both within walking distance. The main thing is, their restaurant is truly amazing! Don't miss it if you come to Yangshuo!
