Mount Rokko Ski Resort Overview

Mount Rokko Ski Resort

Rokkosan Snow Park features artificial snow and gentle slopes, making it an ideal place for anyone experiencing snow for the first time.

Whether you're putting on snow boots for the first time or stepping onto a snowy slope for the first time, the relaxed setting makes it easy to enjoy the experience without feeling intimidated.

There’s more to enjoy beyond skiing, too. The resort has dedicated sledding slopes and a snow-play zone where visitors can go sledding, build snowmen and have fun throwing snowballs.

It's a great choice for families, as children can enjoy playing in the snow while adults join the activities and make their own winter memories.

For those interested in learning to ski, the resort also offers ski lessons for international visitors. Even if you don't speak Japanese, you can learn the essentials step by step, from putting on your equipment and maintaining the correct posture to controlling your speed and braking.

This makes it easier for beginners to build confidence on the slopes.

Another advantage is its convenient location. Rokkosan Snow Park can be reached in around an hour from Osaka, making it a suitable day trip from either Osaka or Kobe.

With beginner-friendly slopes, family activities and accessible ski lessons, it's an excellent starting point for anyone looking to experience skiing and snow activities in Japan.

This snow park with artificial snow is conveniently accessible from Osaka. I bought a Hankyu train package that included train fare, bus fare, park entrance fee, and lift pass. It was very good value. There's a snow play area for children, and ski lessons aren't as expensive as elsewhere. I think it's a great place for practicing or for first-time skiers because the slopes aren't too steep and are straight

We came in a tropical country, no winter, no snow. That’s why, visiting a snow park is part of our Itinerary and Rokkosan Snow Park made our dream came true. Though the road to the park is really a tough one, we managed to not throw up 😅. Hoping next time the Rokko Cable Car is working already. But overall, it was an enjoyable trip. We loved it! 😍

It is very convenient to book tickets online and enter the venue directly. We were lucky to arrive when it snowed. It was the first time we saw snow. We played in the snow and made snowmen. The kids were very happy. There are ski slopes suitable for adults and snow play areas suitable for children. We highly recommend eating at the restaurant. We played until we were frozen. We had a warm hot pot with smooth milk ice cream. It was super good.

For beginners who are experiencing skiing for the first time, this is a very suitable practice field. Is equipment rental convenient? The slope of the venue is not too steep, so the whole family can have fun! If you continue playing the next day, you will find out how much fun it is!

Although Mt. Rokko Snow Park isn't a massive ski resort, its well-organised layout and clearly separated activity areas make it easy to explore, especially for beginners and families travelling with children.

The resort features two ski slopes and a dedicated snow-play area, giving visitors the flexibility to practise skiing or simply enjoy a fun day in the snow.

Run 1 (No. 1 Slope)

This is the easiest slope in the resort and an ideal starting point for first-time skiers and snowboarders. Its gentle gradient gives beginners a comfortable space to practise their balance, get familiar with their equipment and build confidence before moving on to more challenging terrain.

Run 2 (No. 2 Slope)

Looking for a little more of a challenge? Run 2 has a slightly steeper gradient, along with a beginner practice area for those ready to improve their skills. As the resort uses artificial snow, the availability and operating hours of this slope may vary depending on temperatures and snow conditions. Check the official website before your visit to confirm whether it will be open.

Snow Play Park SNOW LAND (Snow Land)

Travelling with children or prefer snow activities over skiing? SNOW LAND is the place to be! This dedicated snow-play zone brings together sledding, snowman-building and snowball fights, with an area where young children can get an introduction to skiing.

Separated from the main ski slopes, it provides a designated space for families to enjoy the snow together.

Children can play and explore while adults join the fun, take photos and make the most of their winter outing.

How to Get to Mount Rokko Ski Resort

Getting to Mt. Rokko Snow Park is relatively straightforward, even if you don't plan to drive.

Public transport provides a convenient way to reach the resort from Kobe or Osaka, although you'll need to transfer between trains, buses and the cable car along the way.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you plan your journey.

Step 1: Take a train to the foot of Mount Rokko

Start your journey from Kobe or Osaka and take one of the following train services to a station near Mount Rokko:

  • Hankyu Railway: Get off at Rokko Station.

This bus connects the nearby railway stations with the cable car station, where you'll begin the uphill journey.

Step 3: Ride the Rokko Cable Car to the mountain summit

At Rokko Cable Shita, board the Rokko Cable Car to travel up the mountain to Rokko Sanjo Station.

  • Operating hours: Approximately 7:10 AM–9:10 PM

I stayed at this hotel for a one-night trip to Kobe. It's a very short walk from Shin-Kobe Station. I dropped off my luggage at the hotel earlier, and everyone was incredibly kind, which I really appreciated. Since my main purpose was sightseeing, I returned to the hotel around 10 PM. However, I was greeted with smiles, and their polite explanations helped to ease my travel fatigue. The room was clean and comfortable, making for a pleasant stay. I was happy to find a coffee machine, and the coffee was delicious. Check-out was also very smooth. For me, this was a truly excellent hotel (*^^*) I'd love to stay here again. Thank you very much.

The ANA Crowne Plaza KOBE by IHG, directly connected to Shin-Kobe Station, boasts an amazing location! Stepping out, you're right by the Nunobiki Herb Garden Ropeway, and Kitano Ijinkan is also very close. The high-floor rooms offer unbeatable views, with Kobe's night skyline right before your eyes. The rooms are well-maintained and clean, and the breakfast selection is extensive. The top-floor restaurant offers stunning night views, perfect for photos. While the facilities are a little dated, if you prioritize views and transportation over brand-new amenities, this is definitely your top choice.

If shopping convenience isn't a top priority, I highly recommend staying at the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel. It's right next to Shin-Kobe Station, just one subway stop from Sannomiya Station. The rooms offer unbeatable panoramic views of Kobe, and the Nunobiki Herb Garden ropeway station is right nearby. Kitano Ijinkan is also a short walk away, and it's downhill so it's not tiring. Arima Onsen is only 30 minutes away too. Plus, there's a large supermarket downstairs that's open until 11 PM, making it easy to stock up on supplies. The value for money is incredibly high. I'll definitely be staying here again.
