Guangzhou is vast, and guidebooks often recommend dozens of places that you simply don't have time to see. To save you precious hours on tourist traps, I've put together an honest guide to the places you'll truly fall in love with.

Save to plan the perfect trip! 👇

✅ PLACES I HIGHLY RECOMMEND:

1. Orchid Garden 🌿
A true oasis and your ticket to the tropics in the middle of the concrete jungle. When the hustle and bustle of the big city tires you out, this is the perfect place to recharge your batteries with the sounds of waterfalls and birdsong. You can spend a peaceful hour or two here, enjoying the silence.

📍 Location: Yuexiu District, Jiefang North Road, No. 901. Conveniently located right next to Yuexiu Park, which we're skipping.

2. Yongqingfang District 🎨
A place where Guangzhou's history comes alive and meets modernity. It's a labyrinth of ancient streets, where around every turn you'll find street art, a tiny teahouse, or a Cantonese opera museum. The atmosphere is simply incredible!

📍 Location: Liwan District, easily accessible from Huangsha Metro Station (Line 1/6).

3. Lychee Bay 🛶
Want to see China as if it were a vintage postcard? This is the place for you. Picturesque canals, curved stone bridges, traditional boats, and the aromas of street food. This is the perfect place to experience the authentic atmosphere of the old city.

📍 Location: Liwan District, a picturesque neighborhood you can wander for hours.

4. Dongshankou District 🏡
A time machine that will transport you to aristocratic Guangzhou of the early 20th century. Quiet streets, colonial villas immersed in greenery, hidden courtyards with cozy coffee shops. There are almost no tourists here, and that's its main advantage.

📍 Location: Dongshankou District, metro station of the same name (intersection of lines 1 and 6).

5. Dafo Temple ✨
Remember: come here only after sunset! When thousands of lights are turned on, the temple turns into the backdrop of a magical film. This is pure magic and perhaps the most photogenic spot in all of Guangzhou.

📍 Location: Yuexiu District, right in the center, next to the famous Beijing Road pedestrian street.

6. Canton Tower Bubble 🚠
Instead of just standing in the crowd at the observation deck, take a ride in a glass gondola along the very edge of the skyscraper! It offers breathtaking views of the city at night and lasting memories. An adrenaline rush guaranteed!

📍 Location: Haizhu District, Canton Tower metro station (Line 3).

7. Huacheng Square 🌃
The best free observation deck in the city! It offers that picture-perfect view of Guangzhou's futuristic skyline, including the Canton Tower. A perfect spot for evening strolls and photos.

📍 Location: Tianhe District, the central square between the CBD's main skyscrapers.

8. Shamian Island ☕️
A little Europe in the middle of China. Cobblestone streets, stately mansions, shady alleys, and quiet coffee shops. It's the perfect place to escape the bustle of Asia and the frantic pace of the city.

📍 Location: An island in Liwan District, connected to the mainland by several bridges.

I hope my guide helps you plan an unforgettable trip!

Guangzhou ranks among the top 5 largest cities in China. Let me tell you what makes this city so famous.

📌 Guangzhou is known as the counterfeit capital of the world, producing remarkably high-quality replicas. Interestingly, some counterfeits here are so well-made that even professionals might struggle to distinguish them from the originals. Although counterfeiting global brand products is officially prohibited in China, Guangzhou's influence is felt worldwide. Without realizing it, you might be wearing clothes, using gadgets, or owning items and equipment that were manufactured in Guangzhou.

The city boasts dozens of shopping malls and markets offering an enormous variety of goods across all price ranges, from cheap and low-quality items to luxury-grade replicas. Beyond clothing and electronics, you can also find exquisite counterfeit furniture here. So, if you dream of furnishing your home like a palace, welcome to Guangzhou! 😅

📌 A Hub for Business
Guangzhou is home to some of the largest business centers and exhibition halls in China. Major international trade fairs, such as the world-renowned Canton Fair, are held here. This city provides budding entrepreneurs with opportunities to make their mark and allows traders to discover new products not yet available in their home countries.

📌 China's Most Important Port
Guangzhou's massive port serves as a key transportation and trade hub for China. Historically, it was one of the starting points of the ancient Silk Road, where trade caravans traversed Asia.

📌 The Canton Tower, located in Guangzhou, is the second tallest tower in the world and ranks among the top 7 tallest buildings globally, standing at a height of 600 meters.

📌 Guangzhou is considered the birthplace of traditional Cantonese cuisine. Food enthusiasts will find more restaurants per capita here than in any other region of China.

Objectively, I can confidently place Guangzhou on the list of cities I would highly recommend visiting.

📌Tips:

·Huangsha Seafood Market: Beware of short-weighted seafood purchases.
·Taikoo Hui: High prices, suitable for high-end consumers; not recommended for students or budget travelers.
·Xihua Road: Many food options but heavy crowds and long queues; Yangtang Road is an alternative.
·Moxing Ridge on Baiyun Mountain: Not necessary to visit; Pasing Beer Culture Creative Park offers better views and is free.
Food Pitfalls to Avoid:
·Don’t buy “specialty products” in scenic spots, such as the “Guangzhou Specialty Store” on Beijing Road, which are often expensive and not authentic.
·Dim sum doesn’t have to be at trendy restaurants; old neighborhood tea houses are more authentic.
·Don’t trust taxi drivers’ restaurant recommendations; they may get kickbacks, and the food might not suit your taste and be overpriced.
·Xihua Road has many food options but requires long waits; Yangtang Road is a better choice.
·Be cautious buying seafood at Huangsha Seafood Market to avoid being cheated.

Guangzhou is the southern gateway to China, a city of flowers, and the birthplace of Cantonese cuisine. Whether you're here for a short visit or attending an exhibition, make sure to set aside time for these 5 locations. It's the perfect mix of history and futurism!

Save the route with transport details 👇

1. Canton Tower 🗼
The symbol of the city. Go to the top if you're up for an adrenaline rush in transparent cabins. But if you just want a great photo of the TOWER, head to the opposite bank at Huacheng Square. The evening lights are spectacular!
📍 How to get there: Metro Line 3 or APM Line, "Canton Tower" station.

2. Shamian Island ☕️
A former British and French concession. It's quiet here, with huge banyan trees and beautiful mansions. Perfect for morning coffee and European-style photo sessions.
📍 How to get there: Metro Line 1 or 6, "Huangsha" station, Exit F.

3. Chen Clan Ancestral Hall 🐉
If you can only visit one historical site, make it this one. It's a museum of folk art, but the building itself is more impressive than the exhibits. The roofs are adorned with thousands of figurines!
📍 How to get there: Metro Line 1, "Chen Clan Academy" station.

4. Yong Qing Fang 🏮
The trendiest spot right now. Old Cantonese houses have been restored and turned into cafes, shops, and museums. Very atmospheric, especially in the evening. This is also where Bruce Lee's ancestral home is located.
📍 How to get there: Metro Line 1, "Changshou Lu" or "Huangsha" station.

5. Sacred Heart Cathedral ⛪️
Known as the "Stone House." One of the few cathedrals in the world built entirely of granite. In person, it looks very imposing and darkly Gothic.
📍 How to get there: Metro Line 6, "Haizhu Square" or "Yide Lu" station.

🥟 Bonus Tip: Don't forget that Guangzhou is the food capital! For breakfast (Yam Cha), be sure to try shrimp dumplings (Har Gow).

#TravelPlan #GuangzhouTravel

Start your Guangzhou trip on a concise note by taking the high-speed train from Shenzhen in the afternoon. It takes about an hour, and it's convenient and fast. You can check your ticket and schedule on Trip.com. Upon arrival in Guangzhou, check in at the Ji Hotel near the train station. It's easy to get to, perfect for those with limited time.

Our first stop was Canton Tower, a prominent landmark in the city. This twisted tower stands out against the river, and we intended to ride the Bubble Tram for a bird's-eye view of Guangzhou in the evening. Sunset is at its most beautiful, as the entire city gradually lights up, creating a golden sky against the modern skyline.

In the evening, we visited Beijing Road Pedestrian Street, a historic shopping district with a modern twist. There are plenty of local restaurants to choose from. Next, we visited Dafo Temple, an ancient Buddhist temple with a tranquil atmosphere, contrasting with the hustle and bustle around it. It was a great place to rest before heading back to our accommodation.

The next morning, we started at the Guangzhou Opera House, a masterpiece of modern geometric design, offering stunning photo opportunities from every angle. Then, we headed to the Guangzhou Library, a futuristic building with an impressive, high-rise interior. We then continued on to the Sacred Heart Cathedral, a century-old Gothic stone church. Exquisite European architectural details in the heart of China.

Finally, we head to Yuxi Shuzhai, a library with a minimalist design. Its wooden walls and tall bookshelves make it a perfect spot for Instagrammable spots before departing for Thailand. A short trip, it offers a comprehensive collection of Guangzhou landmarks, art, culture, and photogenic spots.

A shopping destination for shoppers and tourists, we recommend Beijing Road, a bustling pedestrian street bustling with people and shops. It's one of the most famous tourist attractions in Guangzhou, China, boasting a variety of restaurants, street food, and shopping options.

It also holds significant historical value, housing archaeological sites dating back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Getting there: Take the subway to Beijing Lu Station on Line 6.
Hours: Shops open from 10:00 AM until around 10:00 PM.

Advice: The subway can get very crowded in the evenings, so plan your trip accordingly.

Snack attack and skyline vibes in Guangzhou — my stay at Yizhi Mercure near Canton Tower was legit 🙌🌇. You get super easy access to the city’s best spots (hello Pearl River views!), comfy rooms, and a scene full of modern architecture — even if the weather flips from sunny to rainy in a heartbeat.

Food lovers: The in-house restaurant was a big win! Served up bread, lettuce, ham, and warm soup — perfect after a day out exploring. Tip: go for the meat dishes, which were the stars at our table. The breakfast is complimentary, plus there’s free coffee all day for an extra boost. Heads up: if you’re a light sleeper, request a room away from the main street — soundproofing could use a little work.

Must-See Places:
Guangzhou Tower (Yiyuan Road, Tianhe District) — only 10 minutes walk from the hotel, don’t miss the striking city view from the observation deck.
Pearl River Promenade — perfect for a chill or sunset stroll, with awesome outdoor cultural landscapes.
Pazhou Exhibition Center — reachable by metro, blend business and leisure if you’re in town for work.
Hotel: Yizhi Mercure (Canton Tower Metro Station Pazhou Exhibition Store)
Address: No.2 Dongqing Street, Yiyuan Road
Open 24/7, breakfast from 7–10 am

Getting Around:
Metro access is fantastic (Canton Tower station is walkable), and taxis are easy to grab. For the full city experience, try cycling between nearby riverfront public spaces.

Travel Tips:
Bring an umbrella for the random rain, and download a translator app for easy menu navigation.
Exchange small bills for market shopping.
The area’s very safe and clean — locals are friendly!
