5-Star Hotels in Gansu, China

This is the first time I've specifically waited to review a hotel: 1. Location: Less than 10 minutes from the high-speed train station, very convenient. 2. Service: Beyond five-star service! They added me on WeChat in advance, and all the hotel staff were incredibly enthusiastic. Every detail was meticulously taken care of, from bottled water available everywhere to free laundry and drying facilities, complete with laundry detergent. In the evenings, there were complimentary sweet soups, milk, and pastries. It was so convenient when traveling with a child and ordering extra food. There were welcome gifts upon check-in and also gifts upon check-out, plus a play area for kids. An excellent hotel! 👍👍👍

We had two bookings, so I'll review again. The room was spacious enough, and I specifically requested a buckwheat pillow, which ensured a great night's sleep. The Yellow River view from the window was simply breathtaking; the harmonious beauty of the city and nature unfolded before my eyes. Breakfast was incredibly diverse and plentiful, almost too much to eat. The local specialties were adapted perfectly, making them especially delicious and accessible for visitors from out of town. I recommend picking up some pebbles along the Yellow River.

The environment is great, and it's really good value for money. The breakfast was also nice. Most importantly, the staff were very enthusiastic and provided excellent service. They even upgraded our room for free, which was a pleasant surprise! There are also many good restaurants nearby, just a short taxi ride away (minimum fare), so it's very convenient and economical.

Service: The service was impeccable. Our butler was incredibly attentive and responsive throughout our stay, always accommodating our requests. Truly excellent! Facilities: As a relatively new hotel, all the facilities are well-equipped and modern, including the gym. Environment and Value for Money: I mainly want to discuss the location and value for money. Among hotels I've stayed at in a similar price range, such as Le Meridien Chongzuo, Raffles Hainan, Capella Sanya, and Desert Star Hotel Zhongwei, Dongyi Hotel falls a tier below in terms of hotel size, room size, location (requiring a taxi to Mingsha Mountain Scenic Area), hotel activities, breakfast, and overall facilities. However, the price is almost on par with these higher-tier hotels. Therefore, I feel it's somewhat lacking and doesn't quite match the price point.

When I arrived by car, there was no doorman to guide me, and I wasn't sure how to access the underground parking. The hotel entrance from the B2 level parking lot was also poorly marked. I ended up taking the staff elevator to the first floor and had to walk halfway around the building to get back to the hotel's main entrance. My initial impression upon arrival was not great. However, after checking in, I found the hotel itself to be quite good, and my experience improved from there. The staff on the 51st floor generally appeared professional, but they lacked warmth. From reception to the restaurant, guests don't really feel a sense of 'home away from home.' Perhaps their focus is primarily on dining service.

How to put it? Wyndham is considered a quasi-five-star hotel chain in China, and it was my first time staying there, so I was full of expectations. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. I booked a high-speed rail pick-up service, but ended up taking a taxi myself. They said they would reimburse the taxi fare, but it came to nothing. The money isn't the main issue; they said the car broke down today, but why didn't they inform me beforehand? I wouldn't have had to wait so long. I didn't even bother booking the departure transfer service after that. I've stayed in so many five-star hotels, and this one had the worst service. The in-room phone was practically impossible to reach, and it took several calls for someone to answer the front desk phone. When I went down to the lobby, no one greeted me or paid any attention. It was quite a disappointment. It's not all bad, though. My child suddenly fell ill, and my request for a late checkout was granted without any problems, which was quite humane. The breakfast was plentiful, and they had a special beef ramen. The restaurant is on the top floor with nice views, which was good. They really need to improve!

I had an early morning flight, so I opted to stay at the Parc Culture Hotel, which opened in 2025 at Lanzhou Airport, the night before. This hotel is one of the more luxurious options in the area, with very new and complete facilities in spacious rooms. The service was very attentive; they offered a special welcome drink upon check-in. The airport transfer service was excellent; they proactively called to confirm my itinerary in advance, and the driver enthusiastically helped with my luggage. The ride was about 5 minutes. Breakfast offered a wide variety of choices, and in addition to standard fare, I could enjoy authentic Lanzhou specialties like beef noodles and grey beans. This hotel offers great value for money and is perfect for guests with early morning flights or late-night arrivals.

After a few days in Gannan, I specifically chose a hotel with a bathtub and a pool for a relaxing night. The Yellow River view room offers first-class scenery, overlooking both banks of the Yellow River from a high vantage point. The breakfast was also good, the room was spacious enough, and the service was excellent – anything I needed was provided quickly. There's also a Reader Culture & Creativity shop in the lobby downstairs. I'm a hundred percent satisfied! The price was surprisingly similar to a three-star campsite in Gannan. The cost of living in Lanzhou is surprisingly affordable!

I was torn between the Sheraton and Atour, but then I saw Atour at the night market and was glad I didn't choose it. If you don't like overly lively places, the Sheraton is a good option. Ordering takeout from the night market is also quick, and getting a taxi anywhere is very convenient. The lamb noodle soup for breakfast was delicious and very Dunhuang-style.

Longnan Wudu's Top Choice: Xingchao Grand Cloudland International Hotel 📍 **Location:** Conveniently located near highway exits, making it very easy for self-driving guests. The routes to Guano'egou and Wanxiang Cave are smooth. 🏠 **Rooms:** The hotel facilities are relatively new, and the rooms are spacious and bright. The bedding is comfortable. The cleanliness details are a plus, with toiletries and towels individually packaged. Given the dry climate in the Northwest, the room's humidification system works very well. 🍳 **Breakfast:** Deserves special praise! It offers a complete selection of Chinese and Western dishes. In addition to regular breakfast items, they also provide authentic local specialties. 🏊 **Amenities:** Features a heated indoor swimming pool and a gym, perfect for relaxing after a long journey. It's also suitable for family trips. Overall, this is a high-standard hotel in Longnan. It's well-suited for business, tourism, and family travel. I would choose to stay here again on my next visit to Wudu!
