My experience at the Dunhuang Desert Camping Hotel truly exceeded all my expectations! It perfectly blended the grandeur and wildness of the desert with the comfort and sophistication of camping. Delicious food, stunning scenery, fun activities, and attentive service – everything was top-notch. Whether you're on a romantic getaway, a trip with friends, or a family vacation, you'll find your own joy here and create unforgettable desert memories.
When you come to Dunhuang, you absolutely must reserve a night here. Eating a whole roasted lamb in the desert, watching a bonfire party, and stargazing from your tent will undoubtedly become the most cherished moments of your trip! I wholeheartedly recommend it; you won't be disappointed!
The best aspect of this stay was by far the owner. He was incredibly, incredibly helpful and friendly — from the moment I walked in the door he offered me a cup of tea, then provided tea and bread the next morning for breakfast, offered advice on what to see in the area, arranged a car to take me to Dalzong Lake, and finally even found me a spot on a local minibus going to my next destination. I couldn’t have done half the things I did during my stay in Xiahe without his advice and efforts on my behalf, so that alone made staying here fully worthwhile!
It’s worth mentioning that the guesthouse’s architecture is also absolutely beautiful, and everything looks quite new. It’s located down a quiet side alley off of one of the main commercial streets in town, which seems like the ideal placement.
On the accommodations: I stayed in one of the two tents erected on the second floor of the guesthouse. This was largely quite a good experience! The bed was very comfortable (with a heated pad), water and towels provided, etc. The tents are not in a closed-off area, but rather on the second floor/balcony area that also is used for sitting, serving tea, etc., so privacy is somewhat limited, but the whole guesthouse is relatively quiet anyway so it doesn’t feel like a public space. My only suggestions for improvement would be related to the bathroom: during my stay, the shared bathroom for the tents was a sort of temporary-style booth installed in the corner of the room with a toilet, sink, and showerhead. The bathroom was very clean and everything inside worked well, but its sliding door separated from the wall enough that there was always a substantial enough space on one side or the other that could be seen through (the door also didn’t lock and slid back and forth easily). The booth was also small enough that, realistically, I think it would be a bit of a challenge to actually use it to shower. If possible it might be worth looking into some simple fixes to improve these situations, but otherwise I have no complaints!

We had an amazing stay here, it’s a family run hotel and they went out of their way to accommodate and make sure we make the most of our stay in Lanzhou.
The room is clean and the price is just unbeatable.
In a very convenient location, subway right in front of the hotel and Lanzhouxi/west railway station just one stop away or simply on a walk distance.
They even drove us to the station for our convenience, just wonderful people.
Unfortunately forgot to make pictures.
I would stay here again when in Lanzhou, thank you so much ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Conveniently located within walking distance to the labrang monastery (400m) west entrance. They could arrange for transportation around xiahe.
Room was clean and spacious , just a little cold as we arrived in end may which makes it difficult to take a shower. Generally, we enjoyed our stay there. As we were staying there for 3 days, we later had to venture out further to try other food varieties.
Would prefer if they could arrange for more affordable prices for non native speaking travellers when securing private car hires.

Everything was perfect, there were good food places just a few steps away. A bus stop is very close, directly connecting to the main attractions and the train station. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly.
Only disadvantage was that I wasn’t able to open the water bottles they provided. In the end, I hurt my hand while trying to open. I never had this issue before.
That being said, they also have a water dispenser downstairs so there are other options to get drinking water.

The first desert camping experience was amazing! Before I came, I was worried, and the result was completely beyond expectations. The tent was much larger than expected. The 1.8-meter bed was super comfortable. The bedding was changed every day. There was a faint smell of sunshine. The most surprising thing was that I could enjoy modern facilities in the depths of the desert: 24-hour power supply 🔌
I love the exclusive starry sky courtyard in front of the tent. In the evening, the housekeeper will send a candlelight dinner. I lie on the lazy sofa and watch the galaxy slowly rise. From time to time, there are meteors passing by. 🌠~ The cloud Xiamei, which is dyed red by the desert sunrise in the early morning, is suffocated. I am completely reluctant to leave ~ I am willing to come again for such a camping experience. 100 times! Highly recommended to friends who want to be close to nature and don't want to be comfortable ~

Choosing this glamping tent was such a smart decision! The camp activities were plentiful and fantastic, creating an incredible interactive atmosphere. The tent itself was well-sealed, windproof, and warm, with all the necessary amenities, and everything was spotlessly clean. Waking up to the stunning desert views right outside our window was simply amazing. A perfect travel experience!

The host was incredibly kind and patiently explained everything. They thoughtfully provided hats, sunglasses, and shoe covers, so I didn't need to bring my own. Every evening, they screened classic movies and had a great selection of books on various topics. They even had free postcards and envelopes. It was a wonderful experience, and I can't wait to visit again!

GGuest UserThe boss was very enthusiastic. I contacted him one day in advance and waited for us at the station early the next morning. The accommodation was close to the East Gate. We said we were going to Crescent Lake and Mingsha Mountain. The boss took the initiative to drive us to the Middle Gate, saying that we could save 20 yuan on the shuttle bus fare. The next day, we signed up for a tour group to go out and play. The boss also sent us to the boarding point early in the morning. The boss was afraid that it would be inconvenient to go back after the Crescent Lake Music Festival, so he also came to pick us up, making our travel very convenient. The accommodation environment is also very good, and the steamed bun for breakfast is particularly large.

SShuijierdongThis guesthouse is run by a really nice couple. When we arrived at the scenic area entrance, the owner's wife drove out to guide us in. The guesthouse is about a kilometer from the Maijishan Grottoes entrance, and from there you have to walk. We originally booked a family room on the second floor, but after hearing us mention that my dad wasn't going to the grottoes because of his bad leg, and that we had our dog with us, the owner's wife gave us a private room on the first floor. It was very spacious. The whole family is so nice! We ordered dinner and they told us to go back to our room to rest, then called us when it was ready and brought it to the dining area. I genuinely recommend staying here if you're visiting Maijishan. We went in the morning when it wasn't crowded, and by the time we came out, it was barely 10 AM and they were already starting to control the flow of people at the ticket gate. The grotto steps are high and narrow, so you can only go one by one. Those who go in later will probably have a very long wait.
AAnonymous UserIf life is a never-ending journey, then the camping trip at the Desert Star Hotel is undoubtedly a highlight of my journey.
When I arrived at the campsite, the first thing that attracted me was the unique tent house. Unlike regular tents, the top of the tent is made of special transparent materials, like a huge viewing platform, which builds a bridge of communication between me and the vast galaxy. As night fell, I couldn't wait to lie on the soft bed, and when I looked up, the bright starry sky was presented to me without reservation. The stars twinkled, like gems inlaid on the black sky, beautiful as a dream. At that moment, the world seemed to press the mute button, and the impetuousness and noise in my heart were instantly soothed. The unique beauty of this quietness made me intoxicated.
It is worth mentioning that the hotel staff is very considerate. After placing the order, the customer service guy at the front desk added our contact information and gave us some local travel tips, which saved us a lot of time. From the warm reception at check-in, to the careful guidance during the activities, to the warm greetings at night, every detail made people feel cared for. They not only provided me with thoughtful service, but also made me feel the simplicity and enthusiasm of the desert people.
This desert camping trip not only allowed me to appreciate the magnificent scenery of the desert, but also experienced exciting and interesting activities, which became an eternal and beautiful memory in my heart.
LLvtaibakegaoshiThe hotel has an elegant environment. As soon as you enter the lobby, you will feel at home. The front desk is very enthusiastic, the rooms are well-structured, the beds are very soft, and the parking lot is also relatively convenient. I recommend everyone to stay at Renhe Hotel!
Llarry199112The overall style is nice, camping-style. The two owners are older brothers from Xi'an who ride motorcycles. They are all motorcycle enthusiasts and nice people. The only drawback is that there is no toilet upstairs, so you have to climb four floors back and forth. It's no problem for young people, but friends with the elderly are advised to stay in rooms on the lower floors.
__WeChat256343****This guesthouse is a hidden gem!
1. The location is super convenient, right at the west gate of Mingsha Mountain, just a 1-minute walk away. It was perfect for playing in the sand and attending the concert.
2. The desert-themed decor and furnishings are incredibly photogenic, and the hotel facilities are brand new, including smart toilets. They even have cute little kittens around! ☺
3. It has a starry sky theme, and the owner gives amazing stargazing classes. The rooftop terrace is perfect for stargazing, and the owner even has a professional telescope. It's fantastic!
4. The breakfast is homemade by the owner. While simple, it's clean, hygienic, and tastes great.
5. The best part is the owner's service. The whole family is incredibly nice and hospitable. They helped us with our luggage, answered all of my child's astronomy questions, provided airport transfers, and even recommended local itineraries. It's just wonderful!

FFionafanttThe room, as always, maintained Hanting's consistent style: clean, tidy, and well-laid out. The breakfast offered classic Lanzhou flavors, with both the beef noodles and egg milk *laozao* (fermented glutinous rice dessert) being delicious. The egg milk *laozao* was especially good, the best I've had these past few days, even better than Lao Ma's! I highly recommend future guests try it. Water, coffee, and tea are self-service in the lobby, which is very guest-friendly. The location is unbeatable; the hotel is right at the entrance to the food street, making it convenient for dining and catching a taxi, and popular attractions are within walking distance. Extremely satisfied! 👍
GGuest UserThe B&B has a large yard, a good environment, and is surrounded by green trees. It is very close to the Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Lake scenic area. The owner will take you to a small path, which takes less than ten minutes to reach the scenic area, which is especially convenient for watching the sunrise and sunset. The room is spacious, clean and tidy, and there is no odor. The bathroom is separated into dry and wet areas, and the spray hot water is large, so it is very comfortable to take a bath. Recommended! ! !

GGuest UserExtraordinary host. Picked us up at the trainstation, drove us to the Nightmarket and back and organized us breakfast. Very recommendable! The location is somewhat out of the city center, but with the helpful host not a problem.
