2-Star Hotels in Rome

Fantastic stay at Villa Aurora rooms whilst I was in Rome. My room was clean, comfortable, and well-furnished. Fully functional air conditioning (rather than those temperamental units in other places) really was a joy to come back to during the heat of a Rome summer. But so far, I've just commented on some features of the room, rather than my experience here. What will endure in my memory as I look back was the warm, classically no-nonsense Italian hospitality I had from Donatella. Throughout my time here, she made sure I was well looked after with room cleaning, bottled water, towels etc. But I most appreciate her assistance in terms of local knowledge. Local knowledge such as a good seafood restaurant , ”Trattoria del pesce” just down the road (which happens to also be in the Michelin guide); such as to not miss out on the Baths of Caracalla; and perhaps more trivially, but arguably also essential, where to do my laundry! Thank you so much for making my stay here such a pleasure Donatella, and for adding both a new Italian word and outlook to my vocabulary - ”tranquilo”.

🇮🇹Rome Hostel Recommendation: JO&JOE I spent ages researching online before choosing this hostel. Everyone said its location and service were superb, and I totally agree!!! The hostel is conveniently located near Termini Station, but it's not in what's considered a 'dangerous' area around the station. It's a fifteen-minute walk from the station, situated right on a main street, with no dodgy alleyways. At night, there are streetlights everywhere and plenty of tourists around, which I think is really important for female travelers. Most attractions are within walking distance (the only one you'll need public transport for is the Vatican 🇻🇦). The hostel is very close to both bus stops 🚏 and metro stations 🚇, and you can get directly to the Vatican by both. There are also many supermarkets nearby, both large and small. If you buy your own food there, 10 Euros a day for meals is more than enough. I stayed in an 8-bed mixed dorm. Although it was an 8-bed room, there were quite a lot of girls. (I also often met Chinese 🇨🇳 girls, which was super convenient for finding travel buddies to hang out and take photos with!!!) The 8-bed room was very spacious, with one large bathroom and one small one (the large bathroom had a hairdryer). Note: Only the bottom bunks have curtains. (If you want a bottom bunk, make sure to request it when you book!) If you sleep on a bottom bunk, whether you get a good night's sleep completely depends on the 'sleep quality' of the person in the top bunk. Because the person above me moved around a lot and twisted quite vigorously in their sleep, it was really noisy. The air conditioning in the room was blasting, which was amazing given Italy's 38-degree summer heat. The lockers 🗄️ in the hostel don't have locks 🔒 (you need to bring your own, or buy one on-site for 5 Euros). I stayed for 5 nights, and I felt that my dorm-mates were pretty good; no one was noisy, and everyone turned off the lights and went to bed by 10 PM (I got super lucky!). The hostel has a huge balcony, a restaurant, a bar, a kitchen, a laundry room, a large common living room, and public restrooms. They don't provide towels (you have to pay extra for them). They offer a paid breakfast (10 Euros, a typical 'Western' breakfast). They also offer a paid laundry service (washing is 3.5 Euros, drying is 2 Euros, totaling 5.5 Euros. If you go to an external self-service laundromat, it'll cost you 10 Euros). After checking out, you can choose between free or paid luggage storage (free storage is in a meeting room, paid storage is in a locked cabinet). I personally recommend paid storage. After all, 6 Euros to store luggage for a day in a tourist area like Rome, Italy, is quite a good deal, considering there are so many pickpockets in Italy. Think of it as buying insurance! I visited Rome at the end of August, so it wasn't peak season. I booked 5 nights for about 1500 RMB, which is an average of 300 RMB per night. I paid a city tax of 17.5 Euros upon arrival. If the price you find is around 300 RMB (during peak season in July and August, it can be 600 RMB per night), I think you should go ahead and book it. The room was small but very clean. The handsome guy at the front desk was very attentive and patient, making people feel the warmth and warmth of Italians.

I loved the common areas they have for travellers to relax. Not to mention the fully equipped kitchen and also the occasional free dinner prepared by the staff. Rooms were spacious and adopted the capsule/nest style where you can have ultimate privacy at night. Lockers were big enough to fit my 40L bag and no additional locks needed for the locker. Although the beds are encapsulated, however it is not hot or stuffy at night as I still felt cold from the AC. Ensuite bathroom is decent and clean for everyone’s use.

We stayed at hu Roma Camping in Town as a couple in a bungalow during the summer, and overall we really enjoyed the experience. The best part is definitely the territory itself – it's spacious, green, and has a relaxed holiday feel that you don't usually get in a city like Rome. The pool was a lifesaver after long, hot days of sightseeing, and we really appreciated having shops and cafes right on site so we didn't have to go far for basic needs . The reception was open 24/7 and the staff were genuinely helpful with all sorts of questions, which made things much easier. There's also a shuttle service to the Vatican and public transport options right outside, so getting into the centre of Rome was straightforward . The bungalow was basic but had everything we needed – air conditioning was a huge bonus during the summer heat. If I had to mention one minor thing, it's that the water in the shower was on the cooler side. To be honest though, with the hot weather we were having, we actually ended up seeing it as a plus – it was refreshing rather than a problem! The shared spaces were well-maintained. It was a bit far from the main attractions, but public transport options meant we didn't mind the distance. If you're looking for a luxury hotel with fine dining, this probably isn't it – but for a comfortable, affordable stay with good facilities and a relaxed vibe, we'd absolutely recommend it.

I really enjoyed my 5-night stay here! The location was one of the biggest plus points, with Roma Trastevere station just a 5–7 minute walk away, making it really easy to get around. The villa itself was so pretty, well kept and probably one of the cleanest places I’ve stayed in. The check-in and check-out process was also very smooth and hassle free. One thing to note for future guests is that the property is outside the main historic centre and outside the Aurelian Walls, in a quieter residential area. So if you plan to use taxis to get to and from the main tourist attractions, the fares can be a little higher. However, with the nearby train station, tram and bus connections, we found it quite easy to get around without relying on taxis all the time. We didn’t really see any front desk staff around during our stay, but the host was very easy to reach via WhatsApp and was always helpful whenever we had any questions. For the price I paid, I’m really happy to have found this little hidden gem in Rome. I would definitely recommend it and would happily stay here again!

It was okay. This was the first hotel we stayed at in Rome, and we later realized that hotels in this price range are all pretty similar. If you're traveling with kids, I'd recommend bringing your own sheets and pajamas, as the quality is comparable to a budget hotel chain like Home Inn in China. For those who are out and about all day and don't spend much time in their room, this could be a suitable option.

We had a wonderful stay at this resort. The cleanliness was outstanding, and everything was well-maintained throughout our visit. The staff were friendly, professional, and always willing to help, making the service truly excellent. The amenities were also excellent and contributed to a comfortable and enjoyable experience. The only downside was the location, as it was quite far from the city center. Reaching the main attractions required changing buses and metro lines several times, which was inconvenient and time-consuming. It would be very helpful if the property could offer a shuttle service for guests, even as a paid option, to make transportation easier and more convenient. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend this property, especially for couples looking for a clean, relaxing, and well-equipped place to stay. Many thanks to all wonderful staffs

The location is fantastic. It's close to the train station, the Colosseum, and the Trevi Fountain (about 1.5-2 kilometers on foot). There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby. However, there's almost never anyone at the reception. The room is basic, and the furniture has seen better days :))) but on the plus side, the bedding is clean, there's a set of towels for each guest, and a mini-fridge in the room.
