The hotel boasts an excellent location, nestled in the jungle near Yala National Park, less than a kilometer from its ticket office.
To reach the hotel, guests need to transfer via the property's jeep. The pickup point is easily found on Google Maps by searching for 'Kulu Safari Guest Pickup point'. You won't miss it, as there's a huge, brand-new Buddha statue on the left side of the road at this spot.
The hotel owner runs the place with great dedication and has a strong service ethic. We had a delightful experience throughout our stay.
The hotel grounds are quite spacious, set on a well-maintained plot carved out of the jungle. It's adorned with numerous large palm trees and features clean paths. The environment is excellent, with surprisingly few mosquitoes or insects.
With only 5 rooms, each is a private, self-contained unit featuring a bedroom and an en-suite bathroom. Amenities include well-functioning air conditioning, a fan, drinking water, coffee, and a kettle. Hot water showers have moderate flow and decent pressure. The beds are very comfortable.
The hotel boasts its own jetty, offering guests the chance to go boating on the lake. The lake and surrounding landscape are stunning, especially at sunset. It's 1000 LKR per person (with a guide to paddle), and highly recommended.
Breakfast and dinner are available on-site, exclusively offering vegetarian cuisine. While alcoholic beverages are not served, guests are welcome to bring their own.
Ideal for: Travelers seeking an immersive jungle stay who still desire modern comforts (air conditioning, hot water, and a mosquito-free environment), and are looking for good value for money.

Guest UserLankavatara offers a peaceful, secluded escape. The beach is beautiful and, for most of our stay, we had it almost entirely to ourselves. Do be aware that the sea is very rough, so it’s generally not suitable for swimming.
The rooms have a rustic charm with basic amenities. While comfortable enough, I personally wouldn’t rate the property as a 4-star hotel. The Wi-Fi was also quite weak, which may be worth considering if you need a reliable internet connection.
The staff were always willing to help when asked, although the service sometimes felt a little disingenuous and not always delivered with genuine warmth. Food service could also be quite slow at times, so it’s best to allow plenty of time for meals.
One of the highlights of our stay was the surrounding area. A special mention goes to Upoint Restaurant, which serves exceptional home-cooked Sri Lankan seafood. The hosts there were incredibly welcoming and made for a memorable dining experience.
Overall, we had a lovely stay. If you’re looking for a quiet, unspoilt beach, simple accommodation, and don’t mind a more relaxed pace of service, Lankavatara is a pleasant place to unwind.

Hidden away in the jungle, the hotel is beautiful and peaceful. We stayed in the king suite with our own pool and spa and it was the perfect spot to wind down after an active week of climbing, walking and safaris.
We happened to be the only guests on our night stay and everyone made it a lovely experience with taking us for a walk around the lake to see the local wildlife and cooking a bbq right outside our room.
Will definitely stay here again should I find myself back in Sri Lanka.

The Hilton Yala Resort is located on the southern edge of Yala National Park in Sri Lanka, at the entrance to a protected area... It's said that the park experience is a substitute for an African safari, and this protected area is home to wild animals such as leopards, elephants, deer, and peacocks, especially the leopard colony (just kidding, you practically never see one [sweat]). This resort has only 42 rooms, blending seamlessly into nature. Each room has a private balcony and a Jacuzzi or private pool. A spa is standard at resorts, and there are suites and more private villas, but the prices are just as hefty [laughs]...

Guest UserThe room was large, but there were very few electrical outlets; all the outlets were plugged into light sockets, so you had to unplug them to charge your power bank or phone. The room was dimly lit, which might be the design, but we were worried about missing anything while packing our things.
The food options were limited, but you could try their buffet, which wasn't expensive.
The service was poor, and the staff's English wasn't very good. My friend got bitten on the finger by an insect in the bathroom, causing it to swell and turn red. When we went to the front desk for help, they were indifferent and said they didn't know if the bite had occurred on the hotel grounds. They didn't treat the wound immediately and even sent someone to the room to check what kind of insect it was. We just wanted some alcohol to treat the bite. What was supposed to be a pleasant trip turned sour.
It's quite close to the zoo, about 15 minutes away, but we'll probably not stay here next time; staying by the lake would be more convenient.

We booked this at the last minute due to a change of plans and so just went by the previous reviews but we are so glad we did! It’s a small hotel but with lovely large rooms with private pools. We loved the sunset walk to the beautiful wild beach and our trip to Yala. We didn’t have any problems with wildlife in the shower and loved the feeling of being in such a natural environment. The real selling point of the hotel however is their staff and every one of them went out of their way to help us have a great stay.
Thanks again!

Set a quadruple room, in fact, can live 6 or 7 people no problem 😄 The hotel is located on the edge of the lake. Since we are going to Yarra National Park to see wildlife the next morning, the store packed breakfast for us very early.

A very convenient hotel 30 mins from Yala national park for Safari (which the were kind enough to arrange for us). Nice pool with views over the lagoon and a great spot to sit and watch the sunset, birds flying home for bed/bats on their way out for the night! Staff are great, food was good.
